From the elegantly darkened lobby, restaurant, and lounge areas,…read moreto the open-air atriums which also connect the buildings, this place has stylish down to a T! The room I got had a highly-efficient studio feel, with a HUGE double-sized bathtub/shower. The lighting here is exactly in tune with the rest of the hotel, and accent all parts of the room perfectly. The food & drinks here are truly fantastic (and for that you're going to pay a bit of a premium). The daytime bartender knows how to make an absolutely amazing Whiskey Sour, and he even has a special version made with Gentleman Jack, maple syrup, and orange marmalade! Naturally, since this place is called the east Hotel, there is a sublime selection of sushi and other Japanese culinary delights that you have to try! This is now my go-to hotel whenever I'm in Hamburg!

The rooms are large and with modern art decor. Comfortable and uniquely shaped beds, large shower areas with jet tub (openly located in the room), desk area, bar area (with full min bar) and lot's of "artsy" shaped furniture. The hotel is located near the waterfront and Reeperbhan. About $28 euro from the Hamburg airport. I really enjoy the main level bar area. Great atmosphere, dark, cool modern long bar down one side, large high wood tables with bar stools, and even some limited outdoor seating. Service is always great and they have a limited food menu with about 10 selections prepared in the main restaurant. I love the Maisels Weisse beer on tap, so refreshing. I always enjoy the sushi when I stay here, either at the bar or in the main restaurant. The menu changes up every year and the chef is always creating unique combinations. The fish choices are different vs. North American sushi restaurants - more eel, crab and crawfish. Also more non-fish options (i.e. Duck). That said, they still have some salmon or tuna options at select times. Service is consistently good throughout the hotel including check in/out, room service / cleaning, bars and restaurant. Never had a negative experience. PS - You can wear your room keys around your neck - this ensures you get back to the hotel after long crazy nights. BK

It's the kind of hotel where you will feel silly if you're in like, sweatpants. So you may want to dress just a tad nicer! Seems to be a lot of business people here. Besides the room, I loved the bar. It feels like a fun place to hang out. It's not stuffy and awkward like a lot of hotel bars. Though the immediate location may feel a bit empty, it's actually super close walking distance to everything. Fast walk to the river and historic area. I would love to stay here again.

Pluses: The mattress was on the thinner side but comfortable. I've heard that they have a small gym, however, during my entire stay the gym was closed for renovations. They did have the option of the use of nearby hotel gyms, but with how cold the weather was I refrained. The room size was large including the bathroom with a large shower tub combo. Room was nice and clean too! The breakfast buffet was 12 Euro but pretty extensive with fruits, meats, eggs, pancakes, pastries, cereals, yogurt, etc. The H2O Restaurant & Bar had very affordable glasses of wine. Small refrigerator in the room. The heater kept me very very warm! Good curtains to keep out the light. My taxi was ready pretty much right outside after the front desk hung up the phone. Friendly staff. Location! Free wifi for multiple devices. Minuses: I was surprised to see that the comforters are so short here though! They are also separated by side (think two twin comforters for a king size bed) so one person gets one each. Luckily I was by myself, so I used both. They included for the bathroom - hand soap and built in bottles of shampoo and condition by Face Stockholm. I was surprised to see no hair conditioner though. And the shampoo left my hair a little flat. The lights are turned on and turned off by your keycard by inserting it in the slot by the door...all the lights! This was a pain honestly. There were times there was hallway noise, I think they may have staff working even in the middle of the night? I would give it a 3.5 but rounding up due to the fact I had a few more pluses rather than minuses. It's about a 10 minute or so walk from the majority of things to do (i.e. sightseeing attractions and shopping), but is located near some great restaurants, Rossmans, coffee shops and right next to the U-Bahn. Also, be forewarned the elevators here have blue lighting, which is trippy and not be a good idea to be drunk when staying here. The Scandic is a good option for staying in Hamburg...now if only they could get different comforters.

In less than 24 hours, we saw numerous people on the street strung out on drugs, someone smoking a crack pipe, and a drug deal taking place. It is disasterously messy, with trash everywhere after a night of partying. We heard people partying until 4AM!!!! Could not sleep because of all of what was going on, INCLUDING a baby crying outside until 4am!!! The hotel itself - service was horrible. It was like we were an inconvenience any time we asking a question. We were on the 6th floor, and there are NO ELEVATORS. We had seven pieces of luggage and had to climb 88 stairs multiple times. It was terrible. The rooms had very strange, dark energy. It also felt dirty and gross. The decor is tacky, and there is mold on the walls in the bathroom. Between the area and hotel, I have PTSD when it comes to Hamburg, and have no desire to ever return to the city, let alone the hotel. THUMBS DOWN ALL THE WAY

Everything is tackily decorated (but in a good way) to show off what this place used to be. Some of the rooms have mirrors on the ceilings and gaudy wallpaper. I stayed in a single room that used a shared bathroom and shower. The room itself was quite basic but it was fine for a few nights. The bed even had a built in old fashion radio that still worked! Upon checking in, I was offer a room in the front or back of the hotel, I picked the back and had absolutely no issue with noise. That may have been an issue if I picked a front facing room judging by all the people that congregate in the area. Breakfast was very good and an amazing selection of things to eat at such a small place. They even had a basket full of different vitamins there to use if you wanted. From this hotel you can walk to many things but there is also the train, S bahn, U bahn, and buses close by. Really it should not be hard to get to anywhere staying at this hotel. The WiFi worked well the whole time I was there and had no issues at all.
