I reserved one of the bigger suite rooms (apartment sized) for my short stay in Hamburg and was absolutely blown away. It was HUGE. Really more of an apartment with a separate bedroom, living room, dining area, bar area, huge terrace with sun chairs, small galley kitchen and a super clean bathroom. All the decor was extremely updated and modern, really well done. Seriously...after staying in a lot of strange places this summer, "My Place" really was an oasis. They are a bit old school in terms of booking and payments. You book via email (though they get back to you quickly!) and when I reserved I wasn't even asked to lay down a credit card. Hmmm, strange...I thought. I actually wasn't even asked for a credit card until I checked out. Now of course I am extremely trustworthy, would not cancel last minute (they actually have SEVEN DAY cancellation policy, FYI) or ruin anything in the rooms...but I have to think there is a reason 99 percent of hotels require a credit card for security. My Place doesn't...it didn't affect me adversely of course, just pointing it out. The breakfast is served on the top floor (4th) overlooking the roofdeck with a nice view. However I found the breakfast to be a bit bland and for 8 euros, you can easily skip just a block down the street to Cafe Unter Linden for a really nice spread. If it were included, would've been great...but I wouldn't say the extra 8 euros is a good value. Also, in the room you must pay for each nespresso cup used (1 euro), which I found strange given how nice everything was. Has there been nespresso abuse in the past? Overall though, a really wonderful experience and I would definitely stay again. The rooms are pristine, the area is beautiful (easily reached by s-bahn from central station or hamburg airport) and the quiet side street offers a nice respite. The staff was friendly and this boutique hotel is a winner! *free and easy wifi as well. My Place, indeed.

No information booklet in room, no pad of paper, no pen. Parking very difficult - tight area on side of house crammed up against other guests cars. Must have a valet parking degree to make it work. Breakfast in cavernous restaurant crammed with extra tables and junk. Only open for breakfast. 80's decor incl. gold lame placemats. Cheap food including jam out of individual packets like McDonalds. All for a 4 star price. Very sad. The building itself is beautiful and location excellent. Too bad they couldn't provide bare minimum on basic expectations.

They ignored calls and then I got the runaround from reception and bar staff. Clearly the kitchen staff just wanted to go home. That kind of thing really annoys me, especially at a hotel when you're dependent on room service for meals later at night.
