If I was a dog owner, this place would be a better choice for me over other parks in the area.

Water levels are lower than I remember, but it was nice to take a trip down memory lane. Every Summer, my parents drove their RV and I watched from the top bunk. My brothers and I could never stay in our seats. My parents never knew what we were up to. We always booked the same block of camping sites and we invited three other family's every year. The old tires swings on the cottonwood trees were always a hit with us kids and staying up late catching June bugs, telling scary stories around a campfire and roasting marshmallows for smores. It was cool showing my kids where my parents brought us camping.

It's freezing for me so no thank you LOL. We have been camping at this lake for about 15 years now. There are many ways to camp here. There are tons of beaches that you could just Camp with tents or trailers/RV right on the beach or they have some improved camp sites with designated camping spaces. The price is around $8 a night. The first time we came here, it was completely flooded out. We stayed in the improved campgrounds, and over a few days the water came all the way up to our trailer and about a week later it was completely covering the trailer tires. After a year or two, the water level started to recede, and the lake seemed to be drying up. And after a few years we saw a pattern of flooding and then drying up. We tend to camp at this lake mostly when it is flooded. The water seems much cleaner, and there's so much more of it LOL.

The views around the campground are epic. We actually arrived in the wee hours of the morning, so we had to camp/sleep in our van, in the spot for which we paid / registered. Awoke to a gorgeous morning, resplendent with brilliant sunshine, cottonwood "summer snow" wafting down from the tree canopy above, and a pleasantly cool morning breeze. Loved our short time here!

Fourth of July…read more.. We've been coming to the spark for the Fourth of July fireworks near 20 years now. They always have some fun and festivities in the park during the day. Usually live music, or broadcast radio station from inside the park. We back up to the main road, get out our chairs, and wait for sundown. Our routine usually includes making some fried chicken and potato salad and going to the lake or the river. Spend a few hours there and then head to Fernley. It is absolutely one of the best firework shows around. Not sure if it's just a holiday, but we always meet people in make friends while we wait for the show. I see they have other events here through the year, but definitely if you have not tried, come watch the fireworks on Fourth of July.

I do not like giving bad reviews. But this is a terrible park. It is being allowed to be overrun by…read moreweeds. Not just in the grass but causing many serious tripping hazards all around. This is a shame. The weeds are causing the blacktop path to crumble. NO trees. NO shade. It does have the exercise stations the other reviewer mentions but they are poorly placed. They are not conveniently placed along the walking path. We walked .36 mile. It's probably a little longer if you can figure out how to get to the exercise stations. Poorly designed and worst maintenance EVER.

The QR Codes are no longer functioning so don't try and scan the workout info on your phone. There is swings and a large play structure. If you have kids that are little make sure to watch them as the space between the bottom of the slide and the ground is quite large and they may get hurt. There is a picnic area, basketball court and a place to set up a game of horseshoes. We will visit this park again the next time we are in town and in the area.

If has covered picnic benches, mature trees and a nice park atmosphere. The restrooms are real flush toilets and are kept reasonably clean for public toilets - in the women's side anyway. I can't comment on the men's. There is also a pet relief area away from the park and picnic area. It is part of the California Trail and there is a marker and information about the trail so you can take a rest, stretch your legs, and get a bit of American History. We zip along at 70 MPH along the same route that the California Pioneers travelled by covered wagon in the mid-1800's. In so many ways, this is a pretty cool place to stop. Worth a 5 minute stop on your travels west.

They have a short video and it was only a $1 to take a look through the house. The Park Ranger was very knowledgable and gave us all the history and very sweet and showed us around and answered all our questions. We saw an episode of Wild Nevada on KNPB a couple weeks ago that featured a hike to see the…read moreGriffith Canyon Petroglyphs. This week, someone posted about this hike in a hiking group that I follow. Clearly, all signs were pointing us to head here ourselves, so we did this morning! It's a little tricky to get here so we used directions found on a hiking trail site. You will end up on a rocky, dirt road that would be hard to get through if it was wet and muddy. There is no trailhead sign on the side of the dirt road where you park and there is no marked trail, but you will see a culvert and you head down from there. The "trail" is in and along a somewhat dry riverbed filled with rocks/shale and it can be tricky to navigate with uneven footing and loose rocks. And, it can get muddy. But, wow, it is worth it! Colorful shale made even more colorful by what appears to be an occasional sprinkling of lichen. And, yes, there are petroglyphs! So cool! My son was quick to point out the fake ones so be patient when looking for them. We were the only ones here today but I hope everyone that goes here will be vigilant to help prevent vandalism. This is an approximate 1.9 mile out and back trail that is great for families! Our dog seemed to handle it ok, too, considering all the loose rocks, but she seems turn into a billy goat when it comes to hikes.

But at the same time you get a lot of the less than desireable people who hang out at this park. Pros: -Large grass area for the pick up game of football or used for cheer practice. --The Fernley Youth Softball League (formerly DVGSA) main field here. The ONLY tennis courts -Play ground equipment and swings -Covered and uncovered benches -Skate park -Bathrooms (locked during the winter months but they provide portable bathrooms) Cons: -Parking is limited so if you are attending an event get there early. -People don't clean up after their pets on the grass -It's close to one of the major road ways going though Fernley. Lots of big trucks pass by.
