When on your way to a night's introduction to home brewing, what better place to stop off at than somewhere with a great selection of beers from all corners of the globe? So that's exactly what we did this week.
Penny Blue is one of those places tucked away down the end of a laneway that you'd probably miss if you weren't looking for it, even if you did venture down the lane. It was a Wednesday evening and not very busy, but I can see it getting quite crowd in here. Couches and an assortment of other comfy-looking chairs line the walls and everywhere in between them too, the lighting is low and the beer list extensive. When we stopped in there were no beers on tap as they were being cleaned out for an upcoming private function (and Penny Blue looks to be a mighty fine establishment for such an affair) which was disappointing, but the beer list took long enough to go through that I had worked up a thirst for just about anything by them time I had gone through it...twice, just to make sure I hadn't missed anything.
The bar grazing menu had me drooling, with such goodies as duck croquettes and chorizo sliders on off at quite reasonable prices, but unfortunately we didn't have time to try anything. I spied a couple of guys sharing the sliders (3 for $9) and they looked good, so my mind was quickly made up that a return to Penny Blue for a longer period of time and a chance for a more in depth Yelp review would be on the cards for the very near future. read more
