I just worry if they don't know a simple fact about an animal, how can they care properly for that innocent life form? The workers were too busy talking to each other than to help me. I worked at a pet store for 3 years, and I know it can be hard learning all the information to care for the animals in the store, but if you're not willing to learn or have no interest in taking care of animals for a job, not a job for you. After doing research on places to get a puppy, we chose brookside because they had pretty good reviews. We had our eye on an Australian Shepherd, who we named Jax. So we took the ride from Easton all the way to Hazleton to bring Jax home. The employee at the pet store was very nice and she let us play with Jax for a good bit of time before we bought him. Everything seemed to be perfect up until Wednesday, January 20th. Wednesday Jax started to vomit up everything he ingested. We kept him on the same food from the pet store and even the same feeding schedule. He had loose stool all week but we just assumed that it was from his nerves of being in a new environment. Wednesday Jax refused to eat anything and over the night going into Thursday his vomit developed a color to it so we rushed him to our vet. The vet took Jax in immediately. Little did we know at the time, but that was going to be Jax's last day at our home. Jax was diagnosed with Parvo, a pretty potent disease commonly found in puppies. The vet explained to us that it takes about 3-14 days for the dog to show symptoms to basically assure us it was no fault of our own. Once Saturday hit Jax still did not show any signs of improvement. Our vet recommended we take him to a 24/7 animal hospital so that he could get more intense care over the weekend since they are closed on Sunday. So that is what we did. Meanwhile we reached out to the store and the manager called my girlfriend. At first she seemed really sympathetic and told us to keep her updated, but as the vet bills grew she distanced herself more and more. Tuesday morning we got a call at about 430 am telling us Jax became septic overnight. It was the very last thing we wanted to hear. At this point, Jax spent more nights in Vet care than he did home with us. Parvo is a very contagious disease and the Friday after he went in we did a 8 hour clean at our house to make sure it was safe for when Jax could return home. To our horror, Jax never did return home. Tuesday, January 26th our beloved Jax passed away. We were living in a nightmare. We chose Brookside because of their positive reviews, we paid $2,500 for what they promised as per their website as a "Happy, healthy puppy". However this was not the case. Due to the lemon law in Pa, they had to reimburse us the price of the dog. However they have refused to do anything more. The best the owner said she could do for us is give us his brother for free. But at this point, I do not trust them, nor the breeder they do business with. We did a little digging and it turns out Jax came from Missouri. The owner gave us a bs sob story over the phone how she pleaded with her husband that they only way she would ever get into this industry was if they used reputable breeders and not puppies from a puppy mill. However this place in Missouri is a puppy mill. The kennel group that the "breeder" claimed to be apart of said they never heard of the guy. How is it that we were able to find that information out with one phone call and they couldn't? They weren't even able to provide the USDA breeder license numbers for breeder himself. The lady admitted to us that they normally get their dogs from places in the Northeast but due to the shortage of puppies from covid, they had to branch out. She said that "this guy just fell through the cracks". To me, that is unacceptable. We have now made plenty of phone calls to groups like the Humane Society, the Better Business Bureau, USDA and The Attorney General. One of the wardens who does inspections at Brookside Pups stated that if it was up to him he would have shut them down years ago. Being from a family owned business myself, I know the value of treating your customers right. This company does the exact opposite of that. They have lied to us on multiple occasions. I want to make this point clear, this review is not for me. This is for you. Please do not make the same mistake my girlfriend and I did and do business with these people. They do not care about you, or the animals they are selling you. Seeing Jax the way he was towards the end was absolutely heart breaking. RIP Buddy

Sadly, on July 13, the Hemlock police intercepted me after a particularly beautiful morning ride. They took me to an emergency room and claimed i was a danger to myself. The staff from the Meadows dissagreed, but I'm afraid to cycle back. The Hemlock police said, they didn't want to see people riding their bicycles from bloomsburg to buckhorn, not without it being attached to a car it seems. Anyways, I'll miss my weekly visits to petco, But i still have to press charges against the Hemlock police till i feel safe returning

For the record crested geckos should never be kept together unless you provide multiple food and water sources and never under any circumstance keep more than too together. We looked at all the local shelters to think about rescuing a shelter dog, but today they are almost all Pit bulls. I guess people who think they want pit bulls predominantly don't want to live up to the responsibility to keep them. I don't like pit bulls and don't want one. My nephew has a Shiba Inu and my boys love her and so, they wanted one of these. I found one far away that didn't work out at the last minute, so we found 4 here at Horning's. I was wary because of the of reviews I found, but on puppyfind.com the puppies listed looked robust and my phone conversations went well with Anna Horning. I know they are a "broker kennel" and that the area breeders put their pups in her place for marketing. But, we'd researched true AKC Shiba breeders with their non-refundable $500 deposits and $2000 puppies and 2 year waiting lists, and we had been to KoreaK9rescue.com events where 100 families try for 15 puppies on a merit based system. We only wanted a healthy, non-akc lovely puppy for Christmas. At Anna's place we found a very well made kennel w/about 25 litters of puppies. About 10 had kennels with outdoor runs, the other 15 were indoors. All where well constructed with ample room and waste management. Anna was friendly and quick to show us everything there. She provided our puppy's vaccination records and together we gave him his last booster shots and de-wormer. This is a farm... one where we paid $600 for a very nice puppy. He is adequately socialized and normal-minded, and I understand how an operation like this would administer vaccines without a vet visit. We got a tour of all their pups... and most all, of a variety of mixed breeds, looked great! Honestly, there were a few older ones (a collie and a border collie) which did not look "right" by my standards of how these breeds look.. but by and large, there pups looked vibrant, healthy and well cared for... even if they are not AKC, or if you are not going to have to submit a resume, will, and home photos to pass an adoption test! I would call Anna if you see if a pup she has listed that you like and make the drive to see her. I think she would not mislead you. She gave us dry food for change-over, a can of wet, wee-wee- pads, some pills to avoid diarrhea because of water change and the pups vaccination records. There are some old reviews here from people I think did not understand this operation. Anna was kind to these puppies as we all played with them. I think she treats them well and there are nice puppies to find here as long as you are watchful about the puppy you pick out. We know these are not the best dogs. But, based on what I saw, these puppies are happy and well cared for while they wait for their forever homes!
