The service was exceptional! The staff was warm and welcoming and they truly seemed to care for the passengers and wanted to ensure we had a good experience. The train car we rode in was beautiful, and the seats were comfortable. And the best part was being able to walk to and around the open train car to get the best view of the open air and fall foliage. Overall, the check-in and boarding process went smoothly. In addition, I was delighted to see the nice and clean event porta potty rentals. Thank God! A complimentary snack or drink would have made this the perfect experience I know Colebrook Dale has year-round season-themed excursions and dinner excursions. Development continued through the decades, with the locks, several more residences, barns and out buildings, and a store were constructed. Jumping forward, the circa 1960s construction of Limerick Power Plant forced the abandonment of these homes. A family of sisters who once lived in the village now work in apparent cooperation with the Power Plant to "preserve" what is left of the village. At times (e.g. summer weekends) free walking tours are provided, which last approximately 90 minutes and require moderate walking on a paved surface. You can't go in the buildings or walk off-path. The sisters do their very best to tell the story of the place, but it is clearly out of their league. In over 15 years of management, not a whole can be shown for the effort, which I suspect is because a lot of work is not visible to the naked eye. I believe they said they had obtained $75k in grants, which is nothing. A professional preservationist needs to be brought on as project manager to ensure that these buildings will last. If the women want to continue to give tours, some public speaking classes (don't just read everything), customer service (a little warmth goes a long way), and not wearing political attire would be baseline places to start. In short, this place holds a lot of potential but it needs significant improvements to the management.

What I mean is, I'm not a bird watcher and don't know much about bird habits or the sounds they make or their migration. But I can say that I learned a lot from the displays here today and enjoyed walking through the entire thing. It gave me a better appreciation for birds in nature, how they fly, the threats to their survival, etc. And the place isn't preachy. Just a very informative, pleasant learning experience. There's good information here that's well and efficiently presented; it's just enough - it's not stuffy or oppressive. The staff is helpful. We were fortunate that a house tour was beginning during our visit, and we joined that tour (included in the admission price). The tour is given by a volunteer docent. It was very informative, and we learned a great deal about Audubon (the good, bad and the ugly) and his life, marriage, his work and his valuable contributions to the field of bird studies. I'm giving this 5 stars for what we saw, and I'm assuming (confidently) that a walk/hike through the grounds on a nice day would be great.

Just interested in the art. At the Audobon center, I read everything. So interesting to learn about migration, how birds fly, their physiology ... and John James Audobon himself. What a colorful character. The mission of the center is to educate people to cherish and protect the natural world by preserving Audobon's artistic and scientific legacy. I had no particular interest in birds, but I was fascinated. The center is located on a bird sanctuary -- and the grounds are beautiful. There are trails which visitors are free to explore. BTW, if you're looking for a venue for a special event, check this place out. Staff was setting up for a wedding while we were there, and I was impressed.
