I had an excellent experience attending Penn Foster. I am a 2023 graduate of the veterinary technician program and I feel that Penn Foster properly prepared me to be a credentialed technician. Many employers in my industry partner with Penn Foster, so it's a very accessible way for us to better ourselves and get our licenses. I got my civil ET diploma from ICS before it became Penn Foster. I took the national exams to get my engineering license to add even more weight to my education. I passed both parts the first time. Check with your states requirements to understand their requirements for education in attaining a seat for their exam. Personally, I loved learning and gritted out each part of my education. I signed my daughter up with this school with great hopes! WHAT A LET DOWN!! I DO NOT recommend this school to ANYONE. My daughter's final assignment has been kicked back 4 times NOW they are requesting a 5th .This was all she needed to graduate, she has been submitting re-writes with ZERO feedback just some generic email with suggestions. I'm leaving Penn Foster. Even though this means I'll have to fight even harder to be able to complete the second half of my associate's degree, it's worth it to never have to interact with Penn Foster again. My externship experience itself is the reason I am leaving Penn Foster and not looking back. The Vet Tech Semester 2 Externship sets students up for failure. It says it's supposed to take 8-10 weeks, but it was 15 weeks of absolute hell on earth. The "leadership" does not function, and certainly does not have the students' best interest at heart. Their clinical site approval process does very little to prevent students from externing at poorly-prepared and unsupportive sites. When students are met with a lack of support at their sites, Penn Foster does nothing to intervene. Students are not provided a rubric for their submitted assignments, and the entire grading process is degrading, unethical, and manipulative. A series of 10-25 different "evaluators" grade the 29 skills, which leads to a series of complications. And yet my one and only assigned evaluator only graded 1 of my 29 skills!!!! The graders are STRANGERS who will literally fail your skills without blinking. I even had several graders fail my skills without providing a reason, and then take 8-10 days to reply back to me so I had to sit on my hands and do nothing. And good luck trying to talk to a human being on the phone. If you try to send multiple emails to get a response, they email students back threatening them. The "appeal" process is completely ineffective. They failed 41% of my skills. 41%!!!!!!!! Every time I submitted quality, well-researched work, they found a reason to fail it. One PF associate told me that the graders do this as a "little part-time job". How is it fair that my future is in their hands if they're not going to take it seriously??They would say that the date was wrong or that they were looking for "a little more" and provide no context or rubric. Keep in mind, they'd ask for a "detailed narrative", so I was submitting 2-5 page essays in APA format with in-text citations and a bibliography to go above and beyond the expectations. I put together an appeal listing all the ways the grading process is inconsistent and unethical, and the evaluator literally hung up on me. I was never even treated like a human being. One grader would fail my skill for 1 reason and then another grader would pass another skill for the same reason! They'd regurgitate this robotic response about "upholding the standards of the AVMA or CVTEA". MY ASS!!! Every single one of my 29 skills were submitted after carefully scrutinizing information directly from AVMA and CVTEA sources. I spent hours and even days writing those essays. 15 weeks of my life were made so incredibly miserable because of Penn Foster. Penn Foster took money out of my paycheck every single week and took zero responsibility for the role they played in my externship taking 15 weeks. When I contacted corporate, all of a sudden Penn Foster started taking my grading seriously. Instead of HELPING ME, they open up an investigation with my assigned mentor. I shit you not. They accused me of not being present on days I said I was present. They found any and every reason to not accept responsibility and admit fault. I WORKED AT THE HOSPITAL AS AN EMPLOYEE and they had the audacity to say I wasn't doing enough. 40-60 hours a week, 3-5 assignments submitted weekly, and extremely thorough work. And it still wasn't enough. Penn Foster is an embarrassment to the veterinary field. Shout-out to Kelly Blood for being an absolutely awful human being and an incompetent employee. She shouldn't be allowed within 10 feet of an animal. read more

On 7/10/24 Kris Boylan from Penn Foster contacted me about my complaint. They apologized and said they want to "make it right" by allowing my daughter to participate in the commencement ceremony. They said I had to wait a few days for finalization and details. I was cautiously optimistic, but skeptical. Today (7/15/24) Penn Foster kept their word and came through. It is confirmed. My daughter will participate in the commencement ceremony. I am so happy I can give them the positive review I wanted to give. Penn Foster was a saving grace for my daughter. Before beginning high school at Penn Foster, she had struggled, since kindergarten, despite IEPs. Her self-esteem was non-existent. The self-paced nature of the program was just what she needed. Once she began making better grades, she began to enjoy learning. She completed high school almost a year ahead of her cohorts. Thank you, Penn Foster. I happily leave this positive review. The worse decision my daughter has ever made was to join Penn Foster's Sterile Tech program. At the end of the program, you have to log 400 hours of externship to keep the license you test for. Penn foster does not help find externship sites, which is perfectly fine and we understood. We found a couple of hospitals that would be willing to take her on. Due to the hospitals' insurance requirements, however, they needed a letter from Penn Foster stating the was enrolled in the program and needed to complete the externship. Penn Foster refuses to send that letter. No letter, no externship. No externship, no license. And just like that, $995 is wasted. read more

I received my diploma and was so excited but to my surprise every clinic I applied to here in WA said it was no good here and I'd have to retake my classes at a technical or community college nearby instead. I didn't wanna do that I didn't have anymore money and when I contacted you guys you said they are accredited in every state which was a lie and I couldn't get my money back. I can only speak from my own experiences, so here we go. I recently graduated from Penn Foster High School with honors, and overall, I'm proud of my experience. The program gave me the flexibility and tools I needed to succeed on my own time, and I'm now attending a university in my area--something I'm incredibly happy about. That said, the program isn't without flaws. One of the biggest issues I had was the long wait time for written exams to be graded. This was frustrating, especially when trying to stay motivated and on schedule. Even worse, my experience with the English 3 professor, Shawn, was extremely disappointing. He regularly gave students poor grades on well-done assignments, and there doesn't seem to be any accountability or investigation into his discriminatory and retaliatory grading practices. That's a serious issue that Penn Foster needs to address. On the bright side, the learner support staff was amazing, especially Lolita. She was always kind, helpful, and truly made me feel supported throughout my journey. Every female staff member I interacted with, from support services to instructors, treated me with respect and compassion. Even my strict English 4 professor, who initially frustrated me by refusing to grade my work until it was truly polished, pushed me to improve. In the end, I appreciated her high standards and the growth they encouraged in me. Oh, and my Spanish Elective teacher grades work lightning fast, and he's awesome but I am not great with Spanish yet but I am better I ordered a meal for the first time every speaking Spanish after just 3 lessons lol !!!!!! read more

It's overall a really good school !! But your math credit will not count for college.

The web page said books and tuition included in this 1 low monthly payment so I signed up. Library, math, English reviews did not need textbooks so those went well. The first class for early childhood education regarding health, safety and nutrition required a textbook I couldn't take any tests or do any assignments. They did not mail a book and the app they wanted me to download would charge me for that textbook. I am already paying for it in the Penn Foster fee so I am not paying more money. They are guilty of deception and fraud in marketing, which is illegal. I called, canceled, lady said I would have my refund in 3-5 days depending on how fast my bank processes it. I read email later where they admitted not having any textbooks, those are backorder. They promise products they don't have and they do not offer a link for you to have access online at their cost. Through their own admission, I don't have books to complete the courses. The next email said they were continuing to take money out of my account until I pay over $500. I reported fraud to my bank, reported them to the state Attorney General and I filed a complaint with FTC because Penn Foster committed federal crimes with deception and fraud in advertising, not fulfilling their promises for products I paid for. read more

This is the absolute worse institution to choose from. A total waste of money and time. They cannot even supply edited material for you to learn from. Everything is copied and pasted -- it totally shows as you attempt make sense of what is subjected to you. Their grammar usage is absolutely deplorable and they should be assumed of their selves. My dad has been taking classes to get his high school diploma from thus establishment. He was told that he was finished last summer and then he received more education materials. He has veen trying through multiple avenues to contact the person he says is his Councilor. No responses phones and emails go un answered and now looking at these reviews I know he is not the only one. He enrolled into this program because his employer, Walmart is paying for the classes. I graduated from their gunsmith course back in 2010, it was a great learning experience. As for these bad reviews, people need to learn to read a contract before you sign, as for how long some courses take you need to apply yourself so you can finish them. I really love the ones where people blame Penn Foster for the student not paying what they agreed to pay and are now angry because they can not get what they are not entitled to, my wife was unable to finish paying for her course and even though she finished the classes she could not get her diploma but she understood why. This place is a joke on so many levels. Especially with the online courses. You will expect bad ebooks to read off of. You will get automated messages from teachers when you pass non graded assignments that will make you feel like a child. Admin will ride any payment questions off until your next payment date. I enrolled in the Penn Foster Travel and Tourism Certificate through their career school. My admissions officer was so friendly and answered my questions. As they were offering a discount due to their summer promotion I enrolled. Right away I was given instructions on how to begin. Within minutes I was up online and beginning to learn about the Penn Foster online course management system. The first course was setup really well and I like the fact that you can retake an exam and they give you the higher grade. Now what College or University does that? Its a great learning tool and they allow you to improve your knowledge. I love the independent study nature of this program. No deadlines except for when you must finish the program and they give you 18 months to complete the program plus offer you two extensions. I had a reason to contact an instructor and was passed to Jim in the Business Division as Russ the Travel and Tourism instructor was out for lunch. Jim answered my questions and was very sympathetic to my feedback on the materials. He helped me to decide what Reservation System to use for the module on reservation systems. The learning materials that they use are easy to follow. Just be aware of the details as that can really throw you off on your exams. Read and re-read before you take your exam. If you did not get a good grade on the first try go back over the question and re-read it and find the section in the course literature and read it again and apply it to the exam question. After reviewing the material I decided that it was not worth my time or money and I stopped attending. I tried their bachelor degree program and it was a waste of my time and money. I am a teacher myself and have taken online programs before so thought it would be easy. But I was wrong absolutely no support for students. The book they used says it is for a in traditional class setting and not an online class. The subject material was irrelavent to the degree and when I emailed the instructor for help, his response was literally "figure it out yourself". They give no feedback at all to any assignments, tests or finals. Your final is usually a couple essay questions that are very general so you have no idea what type of answer they are looking for. You are 100% on your own, I enlisted the help of my specialist DVM and even she struggled to understand how to do the math they want you to learn. After a months of frustration I decided to withdraw. So I paid $800 for 2 crappy books and 8 months of my time. I would never recommend and tell all my students to avoid. I will go back to Tarleton, it is expensive but at least they have actual teachers and its from a REAL college. read more

The problem I have with this school is they just seem to be out for your money. They DO NOT offer financial aid of ANY KIND. If you don't like the online community, or taking the exams online, and decide to drop out of the program you're in, you still have to pay a liability fee of over $500!!!! They say 'accredited' but most colleges do not accept these credits in a transfer. The only thing they're flexible with here is your scheduled exams... everything else seems more about taking money from your pockets. Even when calling instructors with questions, they tend to brush you off with 'it's in the material -you need to read it' -it's super rude, and unprofessional. DO NOT ENROLL IN THIS COLLEGE! They say the academic advisors will help you with any questions and they have an online "community" of other students and teachers on the website to support you, but they DON'T. I actually got more than halfway through a bachelors in Business Management with an "A" average but then had to go through a very difficult statistics class that I just didn't understand. I went online to the "community" and even called in to instructors 3 times and was told "If you just read the material, you should have no problem with completing the assignment"... Well guess what... I've ALWAYS been an "A" student with a difficulty in math and statistics. I didn't call in for freebie answers or to cheat.. I genuinely called in for direction and instruction to help me complete an assignment. I was so upset and frustrated by the situation that I DROPPED OUT of the curriculum. I am now looking at various other online colleges in my area that offer blended learning so that I have access to actually go in and sit with a tutor and speak with someone for REAL support. Oh, by the way, THEIR CREDITS ARE USELESS AND NON-TRANSFERABLE. Total waste of time and money. It was a blessing in disguise that I stopped half way through the course instead of doing another years worth of monthly payments and hard work for a useless piece of paper from them that no real University would even look twice at. You also have to find your own proctors for each course and they have to have a higher degree than the degree you're currently enrolled for. I had to find someone with a MASTERS degree willing to have test material mailed to them. We then had to race against the clock because you only have a certain amount of time to complete the exam and try to consolidate our busy schedules to get together at the same place and time for at least an hour or two to have her proctor my exam. #DRAMA read more

They have poor follow through when you have an issue. It has been over a month since my company paid for my classes and I still cannot log in. Each time I call, I get the runaround how they are working on it and they are "escalating" my case. One time it's my company's fault. The next time it was a technical error on Penn Fosters end. Never a straight answer and never a return phone call or email. I would just like an honest answer and to be able to complete my schooling. I would highly recommend another school or going another route. They act like they are trying to help, but all you get is excuses. Student beware!!!!! read more
