We've used Kelly and his team for years in three different homes and would not use anyone else.

We had him tackle a significant makeover and paint job on our 122 year old cottage. Omar's bid was a good 20% higher than #2. We chose him because of how clearly he talked the details, from paint chemistry for a salt air climate to the right way to replace those old cedar shingles. He also had a new kitchen window created from scratch to match the ones in the rest of the old house. Over the 3 - 4 week project, Omar and his crew invariably left the place immaculate, no clutter, no mess. The answer to nearly ever request was "Yes, we can do that." While they are not cheap, the tab for all of the extras we asked for was fair. And we have no doubt that the work will hold up very well. When you think about how valuable your home is, why would you not hire the best in the business to fix whatever is wrong with it? The property will appreciate, and pay you back 10X over.

The one good thing I can say is that my project was completed for the agreed to rate, which is the…read morefirst time I've had this experience in the Monterey region. The estimate was the most comprehensive that I received, which did build trust even though it was on the high side. In retrospect, the labor rate was too high for the quality of work performed. "Omar the Handyman" didn't do any of the work, he farmed it out. For projects allowing more planning, I don't think that I would work with them again. Doctor-level labor rates for amateur-level workmanship? Nah.

He had full access to both sides of the fence. Our contract was a little under $1,000-. He did my side, then apparently, went to the other side and said he didn't realize my neighbor's side of the fence had paint on it also, that had to be removed. So he did a change order of over $500-. We argued the point back and forth, and 2 months later my neighbor and I finally agreed to pay the extra to put this behind us. I emailed, texted, called and left voice mails with Mr. Perez. He ignored me for weeks. He finally got back to me a few days ago, to tell me that he wouldn't be doing the job anymore, even though we accepted the higher price. He was very rude and condescending. He gets very emotional. Not only that, but he texted me in the end saying I was trying to get the job for free... apparently he never read my emails and texts stating we would pay the extra $500-? Stay away from him, is my suggestion. Now I have to find someone to try and finish someone else's work, which many contractors don't like to do.

Used his services previously and was reasonably satisfied with quality of work and price, time and…read morematerials. Moderately expensive for painting work, but he is licensed and insured, so I get that. I see the value there. We called on him a second time to do some work for us. He gave us a bid, which was a fixed bid apparently. It was pricey but he stated would take three days. So, didn't seem awful. Then he calls one day and says he'd like to do job the next day as other customer not ready. We scrambled to do the prep of moving furniture, removing pictures from walls and even patching holes in the wall to save them time the next day as well as hoping to get two coats on some larger anchor holes to be patched. His guys came in and blew through the job in 2 days. They left several areas that we had started the patching unsanded and simply painted over. I called him about the price thinking he would decrease since it took so much less time. Nope, it was fixed bid this time. He was extremely defensive about his pricing. No change in price. So basically his estimating is very high and charged 50% more than really should have cost. And now I've got to go through the headache of fixing the patches that they did not address properly. And yes, I could probably have him come out and address, but honestly, I'm kind of over dealing with him. It's easier to just do it myself. So much for the convenience of hiring a "professional". He made his money on my job. I don't plan to use him again. If you do decide to use him, I would strongly recommend insisting on a time and materials basis only.
