In mid-May, I brought several awards to this frame shop to be professionally framed. This is not my first time using this business. I have trusted them with framing projects in the past and have always been satisfied, which makes this experience even more disappointing because the level of service appears to have declined significantly. At the time I dropped off my awards, I was told they were a little backed up and that the work would take approximately three weeks to complete. I also paid a $180 deposit to begin the work. After about a month without any communication, I went to the shop to check on the status of my order. I was told that they had received emergency or rush orders that took priority over mine. That explanation was frustrating because I had already paid a substantial deposit and expected my order to be completed in the timeframe I was given. By mid-June, I returned to check on my order again, and it was still not finished. During my next visit in the first week of July, I was given a different explanation. I was told that the frames had been on backorder, that they had recently arrived, and that my order would be completed by the end of the following week. After waiting nearly three more weeks, I returned to the shop today, only to be told that my frames were still not ready. It has now been almost three months since I entrusted this business with my awards, despite originally being quoted a three-week turnaround. What is most disappointing is not simply the delay, but the repeated changes in the explanation and the lack of proactive communication. Throughout this process, I have had to repeatedly visit the shop just to get updates. Being told that "it's just me behind the counter taking orders" does not justify a delay of nearly three months or excuse the failure to keep customers informed. If the original estimate was unrealistic, I should have been given an honest timeframe from the beginning. If unexpected issues arose, a simple phone call or email would have gone a long way. Instead, I have received multiple explanations, repeated promises that the work would be completed "next week," and still have not received the finished product. As a returning customer, this experience has been extremely disappointing. I chose this frame shop because of the quality of service I received in the past, but it seems that things have gone downhill. At this point, I expect a clear completion date and for the business to honor the commitment it made when it accepted my order and my deposit. read more

I cannot recommend Charles and the team at Peninsula higher. Charles is not the utmost in customer service, he has an expert eye for design and has created such a friendly environment that customers stick around for the community. Even though we have moved away, we fully intend to keep sending him all of our framing. The only sad part is that we won't be able to be part of the conversations. read more

Background on our order: I made a call to multiple framing shops to inquire about a large order request, I had Over 40 huge 11x17 photos that needed to be framed for an event. After hearing what I needed and my deadline, ever other frame shop turned down my order, not one of them were willing to take on the challenge! Then I contacted Charles of Peninsula Custom Framing and Gallery, I took the tone of desperation out of my voice before making the call. Charles answered my call and quickly reassured me that my job would be challenging but he being a Navy Veteran was willing and ready to take on the job and expedite the order! I was so greatfull for his professional demeanor and his can do attitude was a joy to work with, he invited me and my over 40 pictures to his Shop the very next day! I showed up and he immediately began using his skill and craftsmanship to take me on a verbal journey of his plans for each picture, we shook hands at the completion of our conversation as he immediately began working on my order. I was txt messaged that evening with updates on my order from Charles, the txt included multiple completed framings! I later learned that Charles stayed several hours after closing to make progress on my order! Suffice it to say my order was completed in under 24 hours! This was beyond my expectations of what I wanted, Charles has exceeded all my deadline by 2 days giving me ample time for the hanging and arranging of 40+ framed photographs and documents! Being young and never having had anything framed on my own, my first instinct was to go to Michaels to get my boyfriend's Christmas gift framed. I walked out of Michaels with a quote for $235 AFTER being given a 70% discount and an additional 15% off for being a teacher. Again, being young, I referred to the wisest guy I know for advice: my dad. I asked him if the price I was quoted was high and he responded with something I've been hearing since I was a kid, "always get a second opinion." Before we hung up he added, "go somewhere local." Taking his advice, I typed "framing" into Google and by the grace of a higher power, the first place to pop up was Peninsula Custom Frame. I headed over and walked in to find Charles, the owner, happily chatting with a woman who was clearly a return customer. After he expertly wrapped her framed artwork and helped her load everything into her car, he came back in to help me. I let him know that I was there to learn and started in on my experience at Michaels. I was about to hand over the quote when he told me not to show him because he did not want me to think he was just trying to beat the price Michaels gave me. Charles spent at least 20 minutes showing me different mats and helping me to find the right frame + mat combination to make my artwork look its best. He even offered to order the frame I was looking at in time for Christmas-- a far cry from the two week timeframe I was told at Michaels. He was knowledgeable and honest with me throughout the entire process. When Charles begun writing up my quote, I admit I got a little bit nervous. We had decided on not one, but TWO mats, so surely I was going to be looking at a price far more than the $235 "discounted" Michaels price. Nope. Charles quoted me at nearly a third LESS than the insane price I was quoted at Michaels. I happily gave Peninsula Custom Frame my business and am looking forward to the final product. Charles was professional, warm, and displayed a moral character one could only hope for after experiencing the literal definition of corporate greed. I want to end this review with two closing thoughts. First, Charles is one of the good guys. And second, when given the option and in the words of my dad, "go somewhere local". read more
