Background on our order: I made a call to multiple framing shops to inquire about a large order request, I had Over 40 huge 11x17 photos that needed to be framed for an event. After hearing what I needed and my deadline, ever other frame shop turned down my order, not one of them were willing to take on the challenge! Then I contacted Charles of Peninsula Custom Framing and Gallery, I took the tone of desperation out of my voice before making the call. Charles answered my call and quickly reassured me that my job would be challenging but he being a Navy Veteran was willing and ready to take on the job and expedite the order! I was so greatfull for his professional demeanor and his can do attitude was a joy to work with, he invited me and my over 40 pictures to his Shop the very next day! I showed up and he immediately began using his skill and craftsmanship to take me on a verbal journey of his plans for each picture, we shook hands at the completion of our conversation as he immediately began working on my order. I was txt messaged that evening with updates on my order from Charles, the txt included multiple completed framings! I later learned that Charles stayed several hours after closing to make progress on my order! Suffice it to say my order was completed in under 24 hours! Charles did a fantastic job of helping me transform for this linen piece of Sicily into a professional and beautiful framed piece for my Dad for Father's Day and a wonderful edition to our dining room. My late grandmother on my Dads side passed away and was from Sicily, my Dad also did a deployment without the Navy there so this piece is very meaningful to us and him. Being young and never having had anything framed on my own, my first instinct was to go to Michaels to get my boyfriend's Christmas gift framed. I walked out of Michaels with a quote for $235 AFTER being given a 70% discount and an additional 15% off for being a teacher. Again, being young, I referred to the wisest guy I know for advice: my dad. I asked him if the price I was quoted was high and he responded with something I've been hearing since I was a kid, "always get a second opinion." Before we hung up he added, "go somewhere local." Taking his advice, I typed "framing" into Google and by the grace of a higher power, the first place to pop up was Peninsula Custom Frame. I headed over and walked in to find Charles, the owner, happily chatting with a woman who was clearly a return customer. After he expertly wrapped her framed artwork and helped her load everything into her car, he came back in to help me. I let him know that I was there to learn and started in on my experience at Michaels. I was about to hand over the quote when he told me not to show him because he did not want me to think he was just trying to beat the price Michaels gave me. Charles spent at least 20 minutes showing me different mats and helping me to find the right frame + mat combination to make my artwork look its best. He even offered to order the frame I was looking at in time for Christmas-- a far cry from the two week timeframe I was told at Michaels. He was knowledgeable and honest with me throughout the entire process. When Charles begun writing up my quote, I admit I got a little bit nervous. We had decided on not one, but TWO mats, so surely I was going to be looking at a price far more than the $235 "discounted" Michaels price. Nope. Charles quoted me at nearly a third LESS than the insane price I was quoted at Michaels. I happily gave Peninsula Custom Frame my business and am looking forward to the final product. Charles was professional, warm, and displayed a moral character one could only hope for after experiencing the literal definition of corporate greed.
