I really…read moreenjoyed this performance, of which Noam's Friends who played Fiddle, String Base, Acoustic Guitar, and a "kick ass" Mandolin. Noam is widely recognized banjoist. We deeply appreciated his journey through "War Ravaged" Portland to get here. The Patricia Reser Center for the Arts is stunning venue. The auditorium had nice acoustics and sight lines, and I don't think there was a bad seat in the house. We actually sat next to Patricia and her husband, who happened to be one of David's old High School Teachers. Outside the Auditorium is a pretty multi-level lobby space, teaching rooms, an interesting art gallery, and great light. There's also a spacious outside plaza and an inviting entrance. Reser staff were all very professional hand helpful. The Reser was also an easy walk from my Hotel and the Max Light Rail, for those not driving. I'd love to come back, and maybe for the Stop Making Sense Tour?

The building is clean and well maintained and the auditorium is inviting and intimate. I appreciate the design aesthetic and attention to detail. And as a Bay Area native, I was pleasantly surprised to attend LaRussell's performance, which is part of the Rhythm + Revolution event series that has an amazing line up of hip hop culture events. I also viewed the Black Matter and ReENVISIONED exhibits showcasing Black artists. Very grateful to The Reser for hosting these types of events, artists and artwork - thank you!

And when I went back to the theater, the employees were making snarky remarks about me. I showed the employee my CLEARLY EMPTY purse (as requested) and the employee demanded that I place it on the counter so he could examine everything that was in my bag. A rude and violating interaction that tainted my viewing experience. Seemed to be some kinda power trip from an old man towards a younger woman. Unfortunately this is enough for me to not come back. For being a small business they really don't seem to care about the people that try to come support.

For smaller venues, I've seen productions in Napa valley, Sacramento's old Town district and others. Two smaller town venues are the Village Theater in Issaquah, Washington which is one of the best, and then there is the Gallery in McMinnville, Oregon. I'm encouraged that there is even a theater in the Willamette area, but alas it's quality of stage, theater design and performances need improvement. I hope that someday some patron of the arts will increase contributions to their efforts, but for now I'll be driving 4 hours to Issaquah's Village theater or wait for performances in downtown Portland.

After waiting in line for about an hour I got to the ticket booth and they said that someone…read moreaccused me of cutting in line. I told them that when I got in line there was nobody behind me, and I didn't cut. He then says that he's going to talk to some people and verify this, which is totally fine. The part that is not fine was his logic of how we went about this. He asked the 2 cars that were right behind me and they both said no, that I didn't cut. Then he proceeds to keep going further down the line and 4 cars back he finally found someone to say yes. So then he kicked me out and told me that I could get back in line if I wanted to. I didn't and I left. What I have a hard time with is that if I did cut someone in line, then the car directly behind me would have known I cut, because they would have been the ones I directly cut. But no, they said I didn't. So then a random car 4 cars back says I did and that's all it took? So I can just wrongfully accuse someone of cutting at the drive in and get people kicked out of line, so I can ensure a better spot. Cool. Awesome. Anyway, I will not be supporting this business.

It is community theater, run and managed by a team of volunteers. Prices are amazing for seeing a show here. They definitely are helping the local downtown Hillsboro community by offering affordable shows on a routine basis. Since after COVID, they have been upping their game. Concessions are better, production value is better, and the variety of fun/classic shows is better. I can wait to see what's in store for them next!

There was a huge variety of vendors with high quality goods, and plenty of options for foods and drinks. There were free water-refill spots to help everyone stay hydrated and keep those reusable water bottles full! I caught several shows, a bit of music, and sat and admired all the incredible costumes of the staff / vendors and the other guests. There were archery lessons, a blacksmith with a forge, several vendors with beautiful swords, and so much more! They had a booth with a game for kids to catch "rats" throughout the faire - I didn't catch the details, but the kids were clearly having a ton of fun with this. I arrived shortly before the gates opened and was happy to see plenty of parking, and plenty of staff on hand to direct vehicles (sounds like this is an improvement from last year). I would happily make this drive again, it was very enjoyable.

My first time at a Mask and Mirror show. This is one of their regular locations, at a church in…read moreTigard. Buying tickets and check in was a breeze. They had water and cookies as a snack. The seats looked like classroom seats but they elevated the experience by providing a very thick seat cushion for everyone. You can tell the staff and crew loves performing. The set design for the show I went to was had so much detail and the performers really played their part. Today I went to the opening weekend of the final 2014 seasons production by the Mask & Mirror…read moreCommunity Theatre. Each play has been very nicely produced and, sadly, the audiences sparse. This is a real shame as there is al great deal of talent in this group of actors, directors, producers and the VOLUNTEERS! This is real community theatre at it's best and I applaud the production of "Over The River and Through The Woods" as being as high as last years "Sylvia" and the very nice adaption of "The Importance of Being Earnest". Mask & Mirror company is a community theatre secret-but I'm letting the secret out!! This is a wonderful production company. Well established, nicely produced plays are being held and you don't even know about it! Mask and Mirror isn't new in town- its been in the Tigard area for 9 years, but, for some reason, it hasn't garnered the cache of the Broadway Rose productions. They deserve the communities support. The final play of this years schedule, "Over the River," is playing Friday, Saturday and Sunday thru May 19th, 2014. This play is a very funny dialogue between a 29 year old marketing executive grandson and his 4 Italian-American grandparents. He wants to leave New Jersey for the West Coast and a promotion. They want him to stay in their area. The actors are great in these roles, especially Grand Fathers Nuncio and Frank. There are so many funny lines that the actors are stepping on themselves while the audience laughs..remember guys-pause for your kudos, laughter from the audience in the same as a standing O. Thats the only negative I have to say about this production. Otherwise it is a delightful, if stereotypic,l take on Italian grandparents and their very American grandson. As with 'Earnest", last year, the play has been slightly altered to make some local interest. There are snackies available. Even lemon pie was available today. Yum. Plus coffee, water, candy and whatever else you might want to munch on! Kids are welcome for Friday and Saturday evening performances as well as Sunday afternoons. Looking for something inexpensive and local you west siders? Check out Mask & Mirror Community Theatre's website and Go See Live Theatre! The 2014 season closes 5/14/2014 and fall season opens sometime around the middle of October. They hold open auditions if you're a secret actor and want a chance to audition, and they are always looking for volunteers. Everyone is dressed in a matching outfit. Staff is super friendly and helpful all around the stadium and the outside venues. No doubt they love America in St Paul and they love the military service branches. If that offends you. This event is not for you. So many different events and always moving on the inside. Plenty of different events and different competitive categories. Loved the outside venues. A real variety of food programs and vendors really went all out to provide something for everyone. The history of the rodeo tent was educational and exciting just to see the evolution. So many people that are legends in the sport. What an honor to learn all about them and their accomplishments in and outside of Rodeo. A real family pleaser for sure remember sun screen Drink lots of water. It's a long day that keeps you entertained.
