I recently shopped inside this store. I appreciated that the two employees kindly greeted me but gave me space and time to look around on my own. I did not find any books to purchase this time, but I did pick out two pop-up greeting cards. The cashier correctly processed my transaction. This store contains a large section for children's books, so if you have any children, then I encourage you to shop here. Furthermore, if you are interested in attending events such as conversations with authors or children's story-times, then be sure to visit this store's website to read about upcoming in-store events.

They have a fantastic "buy three, get one free" deal that always convinces me to grab just one more book than I originally planned. Plus, the fact that they have an awesome vinyl collection means you can hunt for records and books at the same time. The staff is always laid-back and friendly, making it a staple spot to hit up whenever you're hanging out in Squirrel Hill or downtown.

They have a fairly large selection of used books and records with many tall bookshelves. You never know what you'll find there! A staff member asked us if we had been there before and we said no. He told us that they have a buy three get one free deal and on Saturday nights they have free beers and seltzers. I didn't end up buying anything because I was a little overwhelmed but all the options (you could probably spend hours in there!) but it's a fantastic option and I like that they were open until midnight on Saturday!

Carnegie now has a bookstore, much to my delight and to my wallet's despair…read more Woolly Bear Books and Gifts is an independent bookstore; it opened its doors last Halloween, which means we've been lucky enough to have them in our community for almost a year. Their space is quite cozy, but charming and welcoming. The large front windows help illuminate the front half of the store and make it that much more inviting. If you browse here, you'll find a nice range of titles and genres, although their website says they have a focus on native gardening, environmental education, and children's nonfiction. To date, I have purchased a mixture of fiction and history books here. I also recently picked up some "blind book" / "date with a book" bundles, which were just too cute and enticing to pass up! There are also toys and other gifts stocked here, as hinted by the business name. They sell some Pittsburgh-based art, mugs, and candles; and I've purchased many stickers for myself and for friends alike. They also schedule events regularly - many author events as well as workshops and a book club, according to their social media. I myself recently attended a talk and beer tasting hosted by a local author; and I'm probably going to duck in during the next Crawl when they have "birds at the bookstore." (Real birds, by the way, that's not a metaphor for something!) Not only do I love the store itself, but the owner and staff are also great - very knowledgeable and nice to talk to. I'm so glad they're here in Carnegie, and I hope we continue to do our part to make them feel welcome!

The coffee bar surpasses expectations. The drinks are great, especially because of their unique syrups and drink combinations. I have enjoyed lattes and fruit flavored lemonades, and my favorites have been the strawberry matcha and the blue velvet latte, which featured blueberry roobios syrup. The employees have also been very nice and it is cute inside. There is space to sit and read or work near the coffee bar - you are able to take your computer and work there with a drink from the coffee bar, without even needing to buy a book. It is a great multifunctional community space.

Best thing to do is go to www.copacetic.biz or even better head over to the store, nestled in a quiet corner of Squirrel Hill across from the police department. Bill (the owner) stocks an unbelievable range of comics, books, DVDs, music, and art in his tiny space. You won't find many contemporary superheros here, but what you will find is all the modern artsy comics you can handle, the Criterion collection of DVDs, weird discount European jazz label imports, Little Lulu, punk rock, Pauline Kael, the Dover collection of classic literature, local zines, a big comfy chair, and most importantly, the proprietor who will find out your tastes and guide you to the material that will best intrigue and interest you. He encourages browsing and reading, and there's usually classic or independent cinema playing on the small TV, or else classic jazz on the stereo. I checked the "$" price rating because nearly everything that Bill sells is discounted from the original price - including both the new stuff and the classics (on which many of which other stores have bagged and marked-up the price). This is extremely rare in comics retailing. Since moving to New York City, the two retail institutions I've missed the most from Pittsburgh are (1) REI, and (2) Copacetic. Go there now!

If you're a collector of current, single-issue comics, that is this store's specialty, but if you want graphic novels or collectibles, you can still order those too. Lou is extremely knowledgeable. The store seems to always be going though an identify crisis, which often seems to hinder the growth that should have happened already. That always disappoints me as I really think that there is a solid core to this store. The owner, while not always business savvy, is one of the nicest, most genuine people you'll ever meet. Always jovial, kind, and will go out of your way to do something for you, but this seems to always lead to the guy being taken advantage of. The selection overall seems to be pretty average. Not a fan of the cards NOT being displayed in the display cases, but the kiosk in the front of the store will be satisfactory for now. I would really like them to bring back the binders and for them to utilize the display cases again in the future. It is also painfully apparent that they've outgrown the current store quite a while ago. I do surely hope they're able to move into a larger store in the near future. Overall it could be a lot worse. The store has the privilege of being in Robinson, but doesn't seem to always utilize the position they're in. I hope they can expand in the future so that I may update the stores progress then.
