Best thing to do is go to www.copacetic.biz or even better head over to the store, nestled in a quiet corner of Squirrel Hill across from the police department. Bill (the owner) stocks an unbelievable range of comics, books, DVDs, music, and art in his tiny space. You won't find many contemporary superheros here, but what you will find is all the modern artsy comics you can handle, the Criterion collection of DVDs, weird discount European jazz label imports, Little Lulu, punk rock, Pauline Kael, the Dover collection of classic literature, local zines, a big comfy chair, and most importantly, the proprietor who will find out your tastes and guide you to the material that will best intrigue and interest you. He encourages browsing and reading, and there's usually classic or independent cinema playing on the small TV, or else classic jazz on the stereo. I checked the "$" price rating because nearly everything that Bill sells is discounted from the original price - including both the new stuff and the classics (on which many of which other stores have bagged and marked-up the price). This is extremely rare in comics retailing. Since moving to New York City, the two retail institutions I've missed the most from Pittsburgh are (1) REI, and (2) Copacetic. Go there now!

Most of the books there are used, so they're sold at a cheaper price but they have new books too. The used books are almost all in really great shape. Outside of the store, they have book carts with $5 and under books. The store is two floors, and the upper floor has a cozy reading area. The shelves in the store are separated by genre and there are also tables with owner-recommended books. In addition to books, there are also plants for sale. The place is so nicely decorated and such a nice environment for reading. To be honest, it doesn't even feel like walking into a store, and it's more like a cozy home. As a plus, I think this place has a cat around sometimes, but I didn't see the cat during my visit.

Even on a busy weekend, there was enough space to comfortably browse through. The staff behind the counter appeared friendly and knowledgeable about their inventory and the business. We didn't purchase anything, but thoroughly enjoyed browsing through and added several books to our "need to read" lists.

This place is great--the selection of pay-what-you-want books is really interesting, and the second floor is filled with an eclectic mix of books, from religion and philosophy, to medicine, to poetry, to geography-specific books. I always like to peruse the medical books, where you may find a new(er) book about updated technologies, or old hygiene guides from 1921. I never know what you're going to find when I go, but I'm always happy with my visit. They do have an online system that allows you to search for specific books, but I've never used it. The people who run the shop are nice and always happy to help. I will definitely be returning in the near future.

Carnegie now has a bookstore, much to my delight and to my wallet's despair…read more Woolly Bear Books and Gifts is an independent bookstore; it opened its doors last Halloween, which means we've been lucky enough to have them in our community for almost a year. Their space is quite cozy, but charming and welcoming. The large front windows help illuminate the front half of the store and make it that much more inviting. If you browse here, you'll find a nice range of titles and genres, although their website says they have a focus on native gardening, environmental education, and children's nonfiction. To date, I have purchased a mixture of fiction and history books here. I also recently picked up some "blind book" / "date with a book" bundles, which were just too cute and enticing to pass up! There are also toys and other gifts stocked here, as hinted by the business name. They sell some Pittsburgh-based art, mugs, and candles; and I've purchased many stickers for myself and for friends alike. They also schedule events regularly - many author events as well as workshops and a book club, according to their social media. I myself recently attended a talk and beer tasting hosted by a local author; and I'm probably going to duck in during the next Crawl when they have "birds at the bookstore." (Real birds, by the way, that's not a metaphor for something!) Not only do I love the store itself, but the owner and staff are also great - very knowledgeable and nice to talk to. I'm so glad they're here in Carnegie, and I hope we continue to do our part to make them feel welcome!

Just tell security you are going to the record store and they let you in. It's upstairs when you enter on the side. Nice, large selection of new titles and flows from the front and into rooms that also contain shirts, 45lps and CDs. As you work thru, the used album wind around and sections are labeled nicely. Prices are slightly higher compared to other records stores in Western PA and eastern Ohio. If I'm looking for a specific title, this store would not be my first choice but would be an option if having trouble finding a unique title. I would go back but it would not be a planned trip, etc. As of 2/25/26, You may find slightly better deals at Jerry's in Squirrel Hill, Preserving Vinyl in New Kensington, Geos in Youngstown OH, Music To My Ear off Babcock Blvd or Inner Groove in Monaca. Hard-to-find, rare, classic pressings as well as newer recordings. I could spend hours just looking at all of the albums and learning more about music that I love as well as bands and singers I don't know tons about. This is really just a fun shop that carries so much history, art and joy in the form of vinyl. Even if you're a modest collector you have to give yourself the pleasure of enjoying all that Get Hip has to offer.
