Very comfortable couch to take some rest during your travel. Parking was the only headache in this location. There was very small parking lot in the front of the building and we actually parked a road off this service area . This travel Plaza had all our favorite restaurants and coffee shops .. Starbucks, Panera, panda express, shake shack and few more ! Allllll restaurants are to quality . Wait time was a bit once we order food . Fuel prices are slightly high . Had a good 20-25 mins of stopover .. 4 stars for this good service area !

I was driving from the Albaby Airport back home in south central Pennsylvania and needed a quick…read morestretch and break and came across this in the interstate. It was quite busy on a late Sunday morning and the bathrooms in need of a refresh, but certainly not filthy. The was a Starbucks with drive through, a panera bread, and a Shake Shack, and Chick-fil-A, none of which I visited on this stop. There were electronic car chargers for those so inclined. I was disturbed by all of the broken glass in the parking area I'd selected, so if I develop a slow tire leak, I'll know what happened, and hopefully the state will sweep this up. It is certainly easy on, easy off I-87 access.

The Dunkin even has its own drive-thru. The parking lot is large and has EV charging stations. Easy access to/from 95. There's even a fenced/gated dog relief area with a bench.

We stopped off at the Burger King (seperate review) for breakfast, basically our only choice. I know that they're do complete rebuilds on most of the quick-stops, but couldn't they stagger them? Who decided to replace McDonalds? I actually looked for to my Egg McMuffin for the card ride home. The teams here were nice and clearly a little frustrated too. The faucets work, the toilets flush... and....get this.... there are actually paper towels to dry your hands with (in addition to dryers). It's easy to access and it's just past exit 10 on the northbound side of 87...on the southern end of Saratoga Springs. I also always feel somewhat safe as there are usually a few police cars parked here. Maybe it's a false sense of security (since I don't recall actually seeing police officers...)...but regardless...I've been here many times without incident. Which is a good thing.

The fact that you can access this rest stop from both directions also makes it a convenient meeting point on the road. (That's been handy more than once.) So overall, a very good option for a stop in the Albany area.

Prices felt a little high to me, but that may just be a New Jersey thing more than anything specific to this location. All in all, it did its job well and was very clean. A travel plaza is a place where human beings briefly admit they have bodies. We eat and drink as quickly as we possibly can, we wash our hands, and then we climb back into our machines and hurtle north or south with emptier bladders and greater optimism. The good news is that after its recent renovation, the Plattekill Travel Plaza looks exactly like every other rest stop along the Thruway. This is not an insult. Sameness can be a comfort. You walk in and your brain says, I know how this works. There will be light, food, and a restroom that I do not have to search for and, more likely than not, will not frighten me. The building is airy and generous with natural light. Due to complete glass walls on two sides, sunlight spills in as if this particular corner of the Hudson Valley has been invited inside to keep an eye on us. There is a modest parade of quick serve restaurants greatest hits. You can secure chicken at Chick-fil-A, provided you're not traveling on the Lord's day of course, bread and soup at Panera Bread, a pretzel the size of your forearm at Auntie Anne's, and caffeine at Starbucks. There is also a respectable Applegreen convenience store, open 24 hours a day, which is where we did our foraging. We emerged with snacks and drinks, the sort of provisions that make you feel prepared for a journey that will last another two hours. The restrooms are large and generally clean. This is progress, particularly when compared to the pre-updated plaza. Not much more you could reasonably demand from a building whose chief purpose is to host people who are in a hurry. Parking is the only real adventure. Spaces are somewhat limited, and at busy times vehicles line the access road like a small and determined migration. The snow and freezing temperatures this winter have not improved matters. Slush narrows lanes and turns simple geometry into a test of faith while snow piles reduce available spaces considerably. You may find yourself circling once or twice, contemplating the nature of patience. On the whole, this is a solid rest area along I 87. It performs its duties without drama. Once inside, you could be almost anywhere, which may be the point. Highways are about going somewhere else. This plaza understands this. It feeds you, tidies you up, and sends you back into the wide and indifferent world with a warm coffee in your hand and crumbs on your shirt. Four stars.
