Going into this store is a bit like a step back in time but the owner is great and most helpful and stocks such a lot of useful things and all at a reasonable price. The shop is in town which is very useful if you are wanting to just pop in and get something while you are visiting other shops in town. If he doesn't have what you want he can order things for you. He is great for advice and tips to about what would be best to use for a project if you are a little stuck.

This will definitely become a regular haunt for us as they seem to sell everything and none of it is too pricey - the issue of quality we will not be certain of for a few years yet.

Hurley's is a small locally owned shop selling small appliances. It sells items such as blenders…read moreand irons, or hairdryers and vacuums. They also sell items for repairing small appliances, things like fuses, electrical connectors, bulbs, batteries, wires and cables, light switches. I've never actually asked when I've been in, but it seems to be run by a husband and wife team, both of whom are very knowledgeable and will try and help wherever possible. Also they have never tried to sell a more expensive item by saying something couldn't be fixed. They are just as happy to sell a 10p fuse as they are to sell an entire new hairdryer.

The staff are lovely people, real local characters, and if you take your dog into the pet 'department' it will be spoiled rotten and will for ever after try to drag you into the shop if you are passing by!

They also have a limited selection of ornaments and mirrors which match the surround that they sell. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and have a good knowledge of their products. The range of fires is wide, although they have a limited amount on show in the showroom. Fires and surrounds can be mixed and matched to suit everyones tastes. They also offer a repair services, and an installation service. Delivery is free, although most items have to be ordered in, so delivery can take a couple of weeks.

There is also a reasonable sized garden centre, and upstairs on the second floor there is a kitchen and bathroom showroom. Homebase is not as cheap as some other DIY stores but the service is generally better and the staff are much more helpful than elsewhere. However, very often there is a lack of staff on the tills, making the queues quite long at times. Homebase also has a rather nice range of ornament s and mirrors to set off any decorating jobs.
