Attended Pelligra Cakes about 3pm today. We are elderly, had just come from a session at the nearby Gym and were looking forward to a cup of coffee and a sandwich. Knowing that this establishment turns off its coffee machine fairly early in the afternoon, I waited in front of the counter but was just ignored by the young man behind the machine. He finally confirmed they were still serving coffee and I said we'd like a sandwich too. Should we order it from him? He was incredibly unhelpful and more or less told us to do whatever we wanted. We walked to the back of the cafe and found no sandwiches but two possibly Italian ladies. They were deep in discussion but one barked at us "do you want something?" I said we'd like a sandwich. She completely ignored me and carried on a loud argument with the woman beside her. My husband suggested we'd need to give up and perhaps buy a quiche that he noticed a little further up the shop. Several staff walked up and down behind the counters completely ignoring us. We finally returned to the coffee machine and asked the young man how it was possible to get service. He said "if you keep walking up and down, no one will serve you!" Finally a young girl asked if she could assist. We ordered two large coffees, a heated spinach quiche cut in half and a small lemon meringue cake. We then moved along yet again to the cash register where the girl repeated the order, gave us a numbered sign (12) and told us the order would be brought to our table. The small cake arrived promptly, the coffees quite some time later (at least the rude young man apologised for the delay). We drank our coffee and hoped our quiche would make it out soon. About 15 or 20 minutes went by and I approached the girl who served us and asked how much longer the quiche would be. She looked at me blankly and pointed down to the back of the store and said "hot food down there" . I returned down the end where once again all the staff were busy talking to each other. One then asked if she could help and I told her I was there to pick up the quiche we had ordered. Quiche? Quiche? she said. Oh, I'll get it ready for you. I returned to our table but my husband wasn't prepared to wait any longer. I ate my little cake and we got up to leave. We again ran into the girl who'd taken our order, and my husband said, "forget the quiche and I think you're in the wrong business". Really disgusting service. We will NEVER return. read more
