I visited here several years ago, and I would say it was the highlight of my trip to San Juan Island. It was such a wonderful place to visit - a delight for all the senses. You really must sample the lavender treats! The ice cream was surprising and delicious, as were the lemonade and shortbread cookies. Double check the blooming season schedule, and watch out for our friends, the bees! While you're visiting here, make your way around the island. So many fun and interesting discoveries! If you're visiting the Seattle area, the island and this wonderful place are worth the day (or overnight or weekend) trip via the ferry! Go for the photo opp and the heavenly scent and stay for the snacks. The farm came highly suggested on a few travel blogs and I can't resist a stunning photo opp. The farm is really easy to find and is listed on Apple Maps. The moment you get out of the car your nose is tickled with the delicate and subtle lavender scent floating through the air. It's pure heaven. You can either pick your own or cruise around the farm. We loved seeing all the happy, fuzzy, fat bees pollinating and living their best bee lives. Not to worry bumble bees don't sting and left us alone completely. After getting some instagram-able photos we popped into the shop. If the budget had allowed I would have purchased one of everything. We ended up with dog treats and linen spray. The candles and the berry compote are next on my list. The back patio is not to be missed. They have stunning lavender plants in many sizes for purchase as well as fresh made snacks. We tried the lemon lavender sorbet and the lavender lemonade. Both were amazing and not overwhelmingly floral. It was a warm day and these were refreshing ....... And devoured. I love lavender. I love lavender farms. Pelindaba is a must stop each time I visit San Juan Island. I always pick up a fresh supply of their salt/pepper/lavender mixes along with a few tins of lavender teas. I came here with my parents on the 26th of July 2019 to explore a little. I have hayfever, am allergic to pollen, and am allergic to grass. Dead grass tends to be the worst for me. So coming here in the heat of summer when the grass is yellow and lavender, and other flowers on the island, are blooming was interesting. Moral of the story, if you have similar allergies/hayfever make sure to bring allergy medicine and take it well in advance of coming out here so it kicks in before you arrive and can enjoy the experience fully. Pelindaba Lavender is a nice drive from Friday Harbor, and I enjoyed the scenery along the way. I love lavender, so I found the place itself beautiful and just liked to take all the purple in. There is a shop where you can go and buy different lavender themed things. My sister had her wedding reception here the following day. It is a nice venue if you want people to have space to roam and mull about. If you want to get away from the tables and tents set up in the open grassy part of the field you can walk through the lavender rows. There is also a nearby lake/reservoir you can venture to if you really want to take a walk and get away from the event for a little bit. read more

No visit is complete without visiting Pelindaba Lavender Farm. I am so enthralled and eternally grateful for the staff at this establishment. Doreen was incredibly informed about all the wares in the storefront. I elected to purchase the bubble bath, tea, sorbet, and a lovely card. I've enjoyed every item! I appreciated her patience and knowledge. Honorable mention: linen spray and lavender stone ground mustard. (Unfortunately I was on a budget!) We walked the grounds and the smells were amazing. Beautiful presentation and scenery. I can't recommend it enough. Do not miss this next time you visit San Juan Island. Additionally, Katie was kind and informative. We stopped at the 25 acre lavender farm and took photos of all of the beautiful varieties of lavender. We went to the shop I bought lavender ice cream which was created by Lopez Island Creamery and didn't really taste like lavender but it was cold and delicious. I bought a lavender chocolate sauce & lavender bath oil that looked awesome to bring home as gifts. The lavender insect repellent smells a lot better than off, unfortunately was sold out. read more

This lavender farm was stunning! We came a bit early in the blooming season so the field was not as deep of a purple. The flowers will reach full bloom in another week or so. Even then the sight was still extremely pretty and it was worth avoiding the crowds as we practically had the entire farm to ourselves. Other activities are present by the picnic tables, such as cornhole and croquet. You can even cut your own lavender in the designated cutting field by requesting scissors from the small shop selling souvenirs and food. Sadly the creamery the farm collaborated with had moved, so only Ruby Jewel ice cream sandwiches for $6 - $8 were sold. Lemonade and iced tea for $2 each made with lavender from their farm is refreshing especially when it's sunny. We spent two hours at the farm because of the San Juan transit schedule, though I'd say allocate at least any hour if planning on taking pictures. Note that the fields are somewhat rabbled with harmless bees busy collecting the nectar from the lavender. Guest Wi-Fi is available by the tent as well. read more

I live (relatively) near a lavender farm of gargantuan proportion, pass by it on the freeway with some frequency, and yet it has never occurred to me to go visit. I grow lavender in my own yard, with big, beautiful bushes breaking forth in June with incredible scents and bajillions of bees, and yet I rarely go look at them and have only harvested them on a large scale (though a few flowerheads do frequently make it into an ice cream concoction I have perfected.) So why, on my daytrip to San Juan Island, did I stop by a lavender farm and find it to be so darn charming? Island magic? Agricultural brotherhood? I dunno. I still dunno, but I loved the 30-45 minutes I spent here a few weeks back. We were on our way to the south end of the island and routed our trip through here. You see it from afar--the purple fields, large sculptures, tent, and dozens of people. To be honest, there were more people here than any one other place on the island that day, save for the cars stacked up getting on or off the ferry. We parked and grabbed our masks (during COVID times, after all) and headed out to the field. There are several acres of lavender, all planted tidily in rows and of many different varieties. I enjoyed the behind-the-scenes info boards that told the story of how they learned through trial and error how to plant, what varieties to use, sourcing problems, and which areas of the farm are more productive. As a gardening type myself, this was fascinating and I'd love to come work here for a few days to learn more. We wandered into the fields and of course took the glamour shots for the socials. It's required these days. The lavender background. The standing and gazing. The windswept hair. It's hawt. They have a shop there with lots of products that they make, though I didn't go in. With all the people and all the COVID going around they weren't allowing more than a couple people inside at a time and the line was pretty long. There's also a storefront in Friday Harbor, though it was also closed due to COVID. I didn't pick any (modest fees) or get any of the ice cream, but if you wanted to come here for an hour or two you would probably be able to find enough to do, even if you're not a big lavender lover. read more

This place is located within the interior of San Juan Island. The farm is picturesque, with fields of lavender, a lake, and a gift shop. The reason I give this place four stars instead of five is because the fields are not really that expansive. In many of the posted photos, it looks like rows upon rows of lavender as far as the eye can see. It is definitely not like that. Also, the gift shop is small and provides a rather limited selection of items. The lavender fields are full of active bees that are collecting nectar, so those who want to take pictures will have to brave these buzzing insects. read more

We came to the Pelindaba Lavender farm a little early before the peak season which is mid July. But we still had a great experience at the shops. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The lavender product are all made on the San Juan island according to the owner. The owner also shared stories on how the farm started and how it grew a strong local community which was impressive. We are excited to try some of organice lavender honey and soap we got from the store! Another highlight on the farm has to be the ice cream. We got the lavender vanilla cup which is the most popular choice according to the staff. It was not disappointing. It has distinct but not overpowering lavender flavor accompanied with creamy and rich vanilla ice cream. Glad to learn that it's made in Lopez Creamery which is one of our favorite ice cream producers. read more

We visited San Juan Island recently, and I absolutely fell in love with this farm and everything it has to offer! The farm itself is huge, and so rustic and adorable. Lots of great photo opps! There's a classic old rusty tractor that made for a lovely country shot. The gift shop here is out of this world. I LOVE lavender everything so I ended up buying lavender milk chocolate, lavender chocolate chip cookies, and lavender ice cream - all of which were delicious! They also had lavender lemonade samples you could try out which were great on a hot day! When visiting San Juan Island, you can either drive here, or rent a moped or a scootcoop on the island (what we did!) and enjoy a beautiful ride over to the farm! read more

Made a spontaneous stop by this store while exploring Friday Harbor and had great experience. The store was chock full of any kind of lavender product you can imagine, from body lotion to dog treats. Just walking in is like a visit to the spa. Lisa(?) - the store manager we met was extremely kind, helpful and enthusiastic about each product. Terrible service, no lavender! Went yesterday with the wife and we were super disappointed to find that there was absolutely no lavender in bloom even though the website says april-october. When we got there and inquired, they said that actually the lavender only blooms for 6 weeks out of the entire year over the summer. So, not able to take any pictures or clip any lavender for ourselves, we headed into the store. The store itself has many nice products but the lady working there was so awful it made the whole visit into the worst part of our trip to the island. She rudely asked us multiple times if we had opened product instead of using the testers, she yelled at some kids for taking an ice cream out of the freezer that they were going to buy, and then overcharged us for products we didn't want. Luckily, we caught the scam before we left the farm and promptly went inside to ask for a refund. Lavender is supposed to calm you down, so not sure why the woman working there was so high-strung and unpleasant. P.s. she also had the nerve to charge us 8 cents for the bag after she had put all of our items (totalling over 100 bucks) in it and packed it up for us. read more

It's definitely a good place to visit while visiting San Juan Island. You'll need a car or should be a nice bike ride from the downtown area. What I really like is the informative videos and displays around the back of the building. It explained how they extract the oil and the different types of lavenders they grow. The ground is beautiful and the person working there was nice and very helpful. All the products they sell came from essential oils from the lavenders they grow and they also make the products locally. That's probably the reason why it's understandably expensive. Tip: come during late June - August to ensure that the lavenders are in bloom. read more

My boyfriend and I only stopped here for the photo op. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the fields were in full bloom. We were able to snap plenty of photos, as it was fairly early in the morning and there wasn't another single soul out in the fields with us. We ended up getting some nice photos. Lavender is my favorite color, but not my favorite smell. So, this was only half-good. The lavender farm is pretty large, but not all that interesting. You've seen one row of lavender, you've seen them all. It is worth the drive if you're on the island anyway, but it wasn't my favorite part of the trip. Besides which, we read an entire plaque there about how difficult it is to grow lavender on the island. The acidity of the soil is too low, so they have to add chemicals when the till it. An entire plaque "bragging" about how they managed to go against the ecology of the island in order to grow all this lavender. I don't know, something about that bothers me... But if you are looking for some odd lavender-infused item, this is your place. The shop on the farm sells everything from lavender lemonade to lavender ginger snaps to lavender chutney. And more. If you love lavender it's a must go to place. The staff are very knowlegable and kind. I really loved trying the lavendar tea's, chocolates and cookies. My favorite was the cookies. Not too excited about the chocolate and I am a chocaholic! I passed up buying the car atomiser and I truely regret that decission. They have many types of lavendar on site for you to see what the plant will look like. They also have a still on site so you can see how they make lavendar oil.. I personally liked the sample tray out back that had over 15 types of lavendar oils so I could see what one I liked the best. If you interested in lavendar and cultivating it... or purchasing lavendar items than this is a must go place for you... if your not into that sort of thing you will get bored very easy. read more

There are may different rows of lavender and you can cut your own flowers after checking in at the store on property. We took photos and then went into the store. Let me preface this by admitting we showed up with just an hour before closing. I'll take responsibility for that and we had tempered our hopes of doing the full lavender farm experience before we pulled up. From the moment we stepped into the store until the time we were curtly ushered out the door, however, we felt unwelcome and a burden. The head cashier's saccharine exterior barely concealed her agitation with our presence. The mildest inconvenience was met with heavy sighs and furrowed brows. We were told we could do some crafts then take the tour out back and then return to the shop to buy things. In the back we got lavender lemon sorbet - definitely nice and refreshing - and then were left alone at the craft table while the two employees were rushing around closing everything down around us. By the time we had figured out our craft the employees were back inside and we proceeded on our self-guided tour. The lights and PowerPoint presentation were already turned off so we walked around the area for a few moments before realizing we wouldn't be getting much out of it. We went back inside the store with brooms sweeping around our feet as we were picking out things to buy. The door was hastily closed exactly at closing time and we felt pressure to finish up and get out immediately. All in all, a quite unpleasant experience. It doesn't matter if "it's your Friday" or "you're about to close." Please don't run a tourist-based service if you're going to be just barely tolerant of tourists. read more

I'm a big old fan of lavender. It's great to look at in a Sideshow Bob of plant life kind of way (although the Hawthorne Tree holds the top spot here and always will), it's scent is clean and comforting and it tastes good - I love eating flowers. So when the hub and I were in Friday Harbor for his birthday a few years back, we stopped in. They have ALL THINGS LAVENDER. Anything you need to bathe, clean the house, and EAT. Honey, chocolates, sugar, shortbread and my favorite Sabels. Little French cookies, not unlike shortbread - but better, bien sur. Long story short - I ate my weight in Sabels and had to go buy new stuff for the purposes of bathing because it took a couple of months to be able to smell lavender again without wanting to puke my guts out. Just a warning. Moderation isn't really my thing - make it yours. read more

Pelindaba Lavender was a stumble on place. It was raining, had time before the ferry came, so we hoped on it! OMG! The lady who works here is like sunshine, so sweet!!! I ended up leaving with Multi-Purpose Lavender Hydrosol, this thing for your car (you put a few drops of lavender oil on it, plug it into a outlet and it fills your car with the wonderful smell and relaxes you! This is great from stressful days driving). I also bought 2 lavender dog treats (which they both loved), and the lavender chocolate syrup! OMG, Try this, heat it up and put it on ice cream! YUMMY!!!! I just ordered more online, got the 32FL refill on the hydrosol cleaner! This stuff is great and is 100% all natural and certified organic! Safe enough to clean your counters, the mirrors in your home, clean off cutting boards, veggies and even use it on dogs hot spots, it clears them up in a day! GREAT STUFF!!!!! read more

Another one of my happy places on San Juan Island. Especially in June/July when the lavender is in full bloom - highly recommended! I believe they still have an annual lavender festival in either June or July. When I visited a couple of years ago, you could hop on the local bus and it would take you there, so no need to have a car. They have also built an inn/B&B and spa/massage thing - but check their website to be sure. If bumblebees bother you, give this a pass because the fields are full of fat happy bumblebees busy pollinating the lavender. read more
