What a nice restaurant right on the beach! They have free parking in the front. You can sit inside, outside or on the beach sand. We sat outside but not on the sand. There was a great breeze so I didn't miss ac on this hot and sunny day. They had some live music which was ok. Service was super attentive. Complimentary chips arrived with the drinks. I had chicken quesadillas and my friend had coconut shrimp. Both portions were ample. My quesadillas were accompanied by fresh guacamole. Decent sized shrimp alternated with onion, orange, yellow and red peppers. Side of carrot, broccoli and zucchini over a bed of rice. My first bite into the shrimp was gross. Hard, dry overcooked shrimp that didn't taste fresh at all. Very disappointing. My husband's fish fillet-Vera Cruz was disgusting. Old fish that is overcooked to hide the flavour. Definitely not worth it. Neither was the Bloody Mary. Cheap mix that tasted like ketchup. The staff was nice and the musical entertainment was great. Stick to bottled beer and chips. read more

The restaurant itself is beautiful. It's airy, spacious, and sits right on the beach. The service is great - the waiters are friendly and attentive. The food left something to be desired. My partner had the pulpo, and found the octopus to be chewy (as did I). I know octopus is typically chewy but if you cook it a certain way it comes out much more tender. It was also bland. My fish was DRENCHED in like two cups of a cream-based sauce, which was thick and had started to develop a film on it. The shrimp was the only good thing about the whole plate. The fish filet itself was kind of soggy and the meat was dark. It left a lot to be desired, as I felt I spent most of my time searching for the fish under that heavy cream blanket and around all the dark pieces of it. Pelicanos is another family favorite when we are in PM. This is a very no-frills place (in a good way) that serves hot, fresh food. You can get just about anything here from the seafood side to a cheeseburger and fries. I'm partial to the shrimp dishes (coconut shrimp - yum!) myself. If you're with a group who can't decide on what to eat for lunch some day, stop in here and everyone will leave satisfied. read more

While visiting Puerto Morelos we found this restaurant after being turned away from the place next to it which only took cash. The restaurant was very nice, it was located facing the beautiful beach, we wanted to sit outside but it started raining pretty hard. The restaurant was really clean, staff was super friendly and attentive. We ordered some shrimp tacos , guacamole and shrimp quesadillas , the portions were bigger than expected and it was all really good. The salsa was too spicy for us but it was nice to get a warning. We wanted a good lobster tail. They told us each one would be $45. When they finally brought it to us it was over cooked to the point you couldn't even cut it much less eat it. It tasted so fishy and was just uneditable. The service was terrible. They served us chips before the meal. They were stale, and there was nothing to dip them in.. our first mistake was there was only one other table of people in the restaurant at 7:00 on a Friday night.The bill was $164 US dollars. 3 very small lobster tails and drinks. We'll, this was a happy mistake. We were intending to go to a different restaurant, but we couldn't find it, so we landed at Pelicans. We decided to share an appetizer and entree. (Spoiler alert) the ceviche large is enough for two people for DINNER. We ordered Mixto (Grouper, octupus, shrimp) and it was lovely and fresh and perfectly limey. They provided chips, a bowl of limes and ground pepper salsa (hot). We didn't realize that the ceviche was a monstrous portion, so we had also ordered octopus Vera Cruz style. It was delicious and three fried banana in the rice was a great contrast to the tomato sauce. Fresh corn tortillas were served as well. The green salad had broccoli, lettuce, calabasa, avocado and olives. Perfect with a squeeze of lime. Only downfall for us is that we wanted the fish Vera Cruz but the only fresh fish they had was Mahi Mahi and we were wanting something lighter. This place is fine. If you are craving large portions of relatively uninteresting food with a fantastic view of the beach, then this is the place for you. Also, it can accommodate large groups, so it has that going for it, I suppose. There are just so many better places to eat in Puerto Morelos than Pelicanos. I ate here one time during our week long stay in PM. The service was attentive and friendly; the restaurant and restroom were clean; and the food was priced fairly. I'm only giving it two stars because the food was really just not that interesting. I'd give it 2.5 stars if I could, but Yelp doesn't allow half stars. In a region of Mexico that is loaded with creativity on the plate, I would have liked to see more effort put in. It's basically a step up from cafeteria food. We had the Nachos, Cuban Sandwich, Lobster Tail, Coconut Shrimp, and Chicken Fajitas. All were a solid "fine". Portion sizes were very large, which is just not necessary, in my opinion. It sort of reminds me of a restaurant that would have received a 5 star rating 25 years ago....and just never updated their menu, seasonings, style, etc. Basically, (to make a Seinfeld reference) Pelicano's is wearing sweatpants. read more

In April 1993, my family and I hopped into a rental car in Cancun and drove an hour south on the 307, which was then a two-lane highway. Our destination was Puerto Morelos, and we were headed there for one, clear reason: to eat the best damn seafood the region had to offer. When we arrived in Puerto Morelos, I was mesmerized by the town. It was quaint, bohemian, and very few people spoke English - clearly much different from Cancun. When we entered Los Pelicanos, I was awed by the thatched roof, but not at all surprised that the place did not have air conditioning. It was the quintessential hole-in-the-wall. The manager was exceptionally friendly; he assured us that we had found the right place and that we were about to eat a meal that we would never forget. After 23 years, Los Pelicanos remains one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the world. I have made a total of 25 trips to the region and have eaten at the restaurant over a dozen times. While the inside has undergone some major "improvements" (I liked the extreme rustic feel), the food has not lost one ounce of flavor. Really, how could the food lose its flavor? C'mon, it comes from the reef in the restaurant's backyard! The friendly manager of whom I spoke is still there, and he still greets customers with the same pride and enthusiasm as the first time I met him. Los Pelicanos is primarily a seafood restaurant, and I see absolutely no reason to order anything else. One can get fajitas anywhere. My suggestion is to order one of the combination platters that includes delectable selections of grouper, shrimp, lobster, squid, octopus, and maybe, if you're especially lucky, conch (which may come from a different region due to local ecological regulations). The fish can be prepared in different ways, but the best way to enjoy it is having it smothered in garlic butter. Trust me, the garlic butter has kept customers like me returning year after year. If you're of the fried fish persuasion, Los Pelicanos serves up a great fish and chips dish. The homemade tortillas, tortilla chips, pico de gallo, and habañero salsa are magnificent starters that pair well with an ice-cold beer or Margarita. With its terrific heritage, world-class seafood, and bohemian atmosphere, Los Pelicanos is sure to provide you with the very best meal in Quintana Roo. Plus, with its gorgeous seaside view, you won't be in any rush to leave. I look forward to many, many more dining experiences at this restaurant. read more

Their food is excellent, you can find traditional Mexican dishes as well as international recipes all delivered by very well trained staff with a friendly personality. There are also some very creative options with an ambitious haute cuisine approach that reach a level not expected from a small town restaurant. The location is amazing, with a beautiful view of the ocean steps away from their terrace and a few strides away from the plaza and shops to visit after you enjoy a delicious food. What really got me here are the views of the ocean. You can enjoy a meal along with the gorgeous waves and dock. There were many options on the menu--much of which is seafood.
