We love the shrimp dumplings they make. The only Chinese food restaurant we know of that makes them fresh. So good!!

We ordered dinner to go. Four entrees. Prices reasonable for the area. Everything was satisfactory. My Pad Thai was s good size but lacked the usual spice. The nice lady at the register gave me a 2 liter soda on the House! Ordered a variety of take out again. Excellent. You know you've found a special place when you go in, and a large table is filled with what appears to be very happy people of Asian descent. I told my son that a mark of a good Chinese restaurant is that the local Asian community supports it. And support it, it does. It is an unassuming little gem of a restaurant, tucked away on Main Street in High Bridge. I admit that I have become a regular here, I like to order out and eat in up to 2-3 times a week. This has replaced the regular fast food I used to have, which can't touch this place for quality or value. This is a place where the owners apparently take pride in what they're doing, the husband and wife team work in harmony, the wife takes the orders and the husband is the main chef. I have never seen a harder working lady than this woman who takes the orders and cheerfully serves the food when you dine in. When she says, "two more minutes" she means it, and the food arrives steaming hot to your table. So what about the food? The won ton soup has a delicate broth with some on the best tasting won tons I have ever had. The soup is not greasy like some other soups I have tasted at other restaurants in the area. I like the chicken wings, my son and I share an order of 10 pieces which arrive too hot to dig into right away, so you must sit there and salivate while they cool enough to dig in. They are consistently delicious. There is a new egg roll they serve that is chock full of beef and onion that is hands down, the best I have tasted. I highly recommend trying it, you'll be hooked. I like to order combination plates because I really like the fried rice, I order it with extra onion and they accommodate my request, while my son asks for no onion, and because it's made fresh, they can do this.It's very tasty. I like the General's chicken which is a light crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, lightly breaded, as is the Sesame chicken,and Bobo chicken which is not breaded like the aforementioned, but diced and in a delicious sauce redolent with honey. I also like the Mongolian beef, which the lady told me to try.... it is not a combination dinner, so no soup or fried rice, however, they agreed to serve the white rice with a brown sauce which is delicious. The Mongolian beef is a real treat if you like a dense rich sauce that dances on your palate. The steak is buttery soft, doesn't need a knife, and is very tasty. I was afraid it might be too spicy for me, but I was assured it would not, and I was happy I trusted the owners to know my tastes by this time. Other honorable mentions are the boneless spare ribs. which I order with extra sauce, the baby shrimp that come with a sauce I had never tasted before, but amazing. All in all, this is one Chinese restaurant, quite reasonably priced for the area, that stands head and shoulders above all the rest. Believe me, I've tried them! The people are super friendly, and gracious about honoring special requests (like lo mein without vegetables!). I live in Glen Gardner and it is worth the drive to come here for the wonderful food and the warmth provided by people who obviously care about their customers. I walked in with a friend tonight about 30 minutes before they closed. This was probably the first time I've ever eaten inside of a Chinese restaurant and didn't get take out. It was nice and clean inside and despite our very late visit, the food was DELICIOUS and our experience was very pleasant. The staff was courteous and didn't try to rush us. Although we did feel bad it was so close to closing time. We had vegetable chow fun and the general tso's tofu (absolutely amazing: crispy- not too sweet). Stumbled upon this place when out for a drive a few weeks back. So happy I did, have eaten here 3 times since! Food is consistently fresh and full of flavor. Way better than your typical Chinese restaurant fare, everything is made with the best ingredients and is simply higher quality than any other Chinese takeout I've ever had. Price is more than reasonable, especially considering the quality and consistency. Hope triumphed over experience when I read some of the reviews. The dumplings were huge, thick and tasteless. The shredded pork in garlic sauce and the eggplant in garlic sauce, which both had a hot pepper symbol, were not only not spicy, they both tasted sweet! The eggplant was also in big chunks, which made it hard to eat with chopsticks. As one Chinese cookbook writer said, we Chinese do not butcher our meat at table. Best Chinese food around. Typically very busy place. I usually get takeout. Food is always good and they ALWAYS get my order right.

Amazing food I had the Beef Pad Thai & Scallion Pancakes both were amazing! All the workers were really friendly. The homemade dipping sauce for the fried wonton strips was excellent! Jesus mother God. This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had. And I have had some really bad food. The General Tso Chicken was greasy and fatty. Who knows, maybe it wasn't even chicken. The three pieces of broccoli were wilted and raw. Sometimes the sauce is good and that will help disguise the terrible concoction but not in this case. There was hardly any sauce to speak of. Listen i think the four stars given this grease pit were divvied out by relatives or friends. There is no way in hell anyone would find this place remotely acceptable. If there is a food God somewhere out there please shut this place down. read more

Their Eggplant is different because they are crispy and not soggy as other restaurants. If you ever go to Peking Wok, you should definitely get those two. I have been a customer since they first opened in their old location. Delicious Chinese food and friendly staff. Take out or eat in, so you can stop by for a bite after hiking the Columbia Trail less than a block away. They have recently spruced up their new location and have added lots of items to the menu, like General Tso's tofu, which is not on the website menu but is on the store menu. I am SO glad they reopened Peking Wok in High Bridge! This is by far the best Chinese food in Hunterdon County.

I ordered take-out at the Peking Wok for the first time, after reading about its opening in a local newspaper. The restaurant was crowded on a Saturday night with about a dozen people waiting for their orders. I imagine that a combination of news about its opening and the Saturday after Thanksgiving (who wants to cook?) made for a very busy evening. A friend introduced me to Beef Curry at a local restaurant in Maryland. After moving back to New Jersey, I never found a Chinese restaurant that could come close - until today. The beef curry was perfectly made with onions and green peppers, and with the perfect amount of spice. The ingredients were fresh and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, my wife's beef fried rice was not as good. The rice looked like it was cooked in beef broth rather than fried. Overall, it was either bland and lacking in beef. And our spring and egg rolls were average. If the beef fried rice was as good as my beef curry, I would have rated Peking Wok with 4-stars. There are tables in the restaurant but I did not see any wait staff. I suspect the teenage counter person also doubled as the wait staff, but she would be hard pressed to do both jobs and take orders on the telephone. Besides, the restaurant was rather cold with people opening the door on a cool night. I wish Peking Wok well. Maybe they are experiencing a few hiccups with the recent opening. Hopefully they will get better with more practice. read more
