All-you-can-eat places are hard to come by around Zurich, or Switzerland for that matter. So when I found Peking Garden on Yelp I was delighted and excited to try their conveyor belt all you can eat SUSHI :) Normally I'm not a conveyor belt sushi fan as I like my sushi made to order but hey, now that I moved to Zurich, gotta suck it up and take what I can get (without breaking the bank that is)
Wednesday nights are Ladies Night, which means ladies can enjoy the AYCE for Fr. 19.90, a killer steal for this town. Men pay their normal price of Fr. 28.80, which is not bad either. My husband and I made reservation for 2 for AYCE sushi for 7pm and arrived promptly with our baby girl. The wait staff is a bit disorganized and don't really speak much German, which is kind of expected of Chinese buffet restaurants. After "speaking" to 3 ppl, we got seated at one of the conveyor belt tables. The waitress was nice and friendly, tried real hard to help us figure out how the buckle on the baby high chair works. Apparently someone installed the buckles backwards and that was the only baby high chair the restaurant has. Eager to try the sushi and not wanting to waste more time, I simply tied the buckles into a dead knot so that my little Houdini baby cannot escape.
Onto the sushi... There wasn't much variety offered, mostly the basic nigiris like Salmon, Tuna, Tamago (egg), and Ebi (shrimp). Then there are some fish and vege maki rolls and inside out rolls. Each plate comes with two pieces. The fish is of standard size and relatively fresh. The nigiri rice underneath was on the larger side, presumably to make you full faster. In between the sushi there are small plates of edamame, seaweed salad, mixed fruit bowls in mayo sauce, and occasionally a couple of smoked salmon made to look like flowers sitting on top of a bed of iceberg salad. The top layer of the conveyor belt is of different small plates of hot Asian food of various ethnic origins but I'm mostly concentrated on the lower level to bother trying out the top options. I'm Chinese Korean American from NYC so Asian buffet varieties rarely ever impress me. My Swiss culinary non-risk taker husband ate a bunch of teriyaki chicken skewers, shrimp chips, and a couple of pieces of cooked sushi and enjoyed them.
At one point, the salmon nigiris stopped coming. Probably due to my presence there, they had to send some people out to the Limmat to catch some more ;) By the time I was half way through dessert the salmon came back into rotation. I had two more pieces for good measure.
The desert options consisted of a bunch of different fried stuff, which I didn't bother with. I did take a spoonful of Lychees and Longans and mixed it with some fresh fruits like sliced oranges and cantaloupes, which were a nice closure to the meal.
Overall, I liked this place and would go back for another Ladies Night pigout ;) read more
