Absolutely an amazing experience. The setting was textbook beautiful, light rain, few passerby's and stellar attentive service. I highly recommend taking the time to enjoy sobremesa and truly experience CDMX. I recommend the beef rib which fell off the bone, as well as the bone marrow with the most exquisite charred rosemary wafting as you take each bite. For dessert (btw do NOT skip it)- I'd go for the honey ice cream. Truly an original take on something you've had before. Overall- you won't be disappointed. read more

This is without a doubt, the best meal and service I've ever had in my life!! I am deleting all my previous yelp reviews because Pehüa absolutely blows everything I've ever had out of the water. I highly recommend the esquite and fish. The fish pulled apart and cut thru like butter, the skin was crispy and added a super delightful contrast in textures. I had an emotional reaction and teared up from the quality of the food. I could never cook like this myself and would definitely make the trip back again. Alejandra's service was beyond excellent. She regularly checked in with us and kept our table clean and tidy. The restaurant is very COVID-safe, featuring a walk-thru disinfecting system called "Safety Path". 10/10, 5 stars, Come here. We tried to walk in to Quintonil last minute and the hostess there sent us here. We got the tasting menu and the food was pleasantly presented and looked nice- but pretty mediocre in taste. This is what happens when modern style cooking goes a bit awry, and the attention paid to unique ingredients, style, and presentation come at the cost of flavor. There were a couple items on the 9-10 course meal (my favorite was the beef cheek tacos, which were quite good) that were good but most weren't. My wife and friend didn't eat most of the food. They were short a waiter which is understandable, and our waiter was really nice - but overall the service was slow due to the missing waiter. I want to give the place 3 stars because of our nice waiter, but that would be a lie. We don't plan on coming back. read more

Unable to get a reservation at Pujol and Quintonil, I easily made a reservation at Pehua on Thursday night for a Friday night dinner. My boyfriend and I wanted to experience fine dining in Mexico City and since Pehua is owned by a former chef from Quintonil, we decided to come here. Also, EATER recommended Pehua as one of the best new restaurants in Mexico City, so I was sold. Alas, I was very disappointed by my experience here. The food was inventive but the service was so poor that my experience was less than subpar. My boyfriend and I opted for the tasting menu and we were so excited to dive into the menu. Each dish was served with ample amount of time between courses, allowing a relaxing 3 hour long dinner. However, as the tables filled up on Friday evening, we no longer had one server for our table. Throughout the whole night there was not enough staff to properly serve our courses. Twice, we were even served by a guy who couldn't even explain what we were eating - something that is not acceptable for a fancy restaurant. Also, the door to the restaurant remained open throughout our dinner allowing cold air to seep through. I constantly had to ask and even had to get up and close the door myself. In terms of food, some dishes were truly stellar, while the rest were just okay. The standout dish was definitely the tacos and the dessert. I would not recommend Pehua if you want to experience fine dining in Mexico City, unless they get their serving act together. read more

As mentioned in many previous reviews, we were unable to book Pujol or Quintonil and Pehua was suggested as an up an coming alternative on the same tier. Sadly it was an entirely underwhelming experience. The staff & service was good, the food was beautifully plated, but the flavor was just OK. The best thing we ate were the beef tacos but in DF great tacos can be found on nearly every block. Maybe my expectation were too high. read more

I was truly impressed with the creativity of the tasting menu here. This was by far the most creative food that I experienced in my long weekend of dining in Mexico City. I appreciated the fact that each course was done to perfection and the wine/beer/cocktail pairing was perfect. The service was excellent and when we asked them to slow down the pace of the courses, they executed perfectly. The server even recommended some wonderful mezcal to share after dinner. If I wanted to be a little picky, I might say that the restaurant itself (decor) is a little plain for the type of food that they serve. As for everything else, it was spot on! Service was subpar , even with a half empty restaurant on a Saturday night. Food was ok, not well explained on the menu, there were a few surprises upon arrival (such as something have chapulines/grasshopper in the sauce and not being in any description until it arrived). We had an issue with one seafood dish being undercooked but once brought to the attention of the waitstaff they went out of their way to rectify and compensate for the issue, comping 2 glasses of champagne and dessert to make up for the issue. This restaurant was across the street from our Airbnb while visiting Mexico. We tried the tasting menu, and it was seriously one of the best meals of our life! The service was impeccable, and the waiter spoke excellent English which helped us out. The restaurant is beautiful inside, with great music. The food was extremely original, all based on traditional Mexican cuisine, but translated into a modern fine dining experience. Had the best meal of my life at Pehua last night. They did the tasting menu vegeterian for me. Armando got the regular tasting menu. Both were amazing. Every single morsel was considered, interesting, beautiful to look at, and delicious. My favorites: an incredible mole with 32 ingredients, pink mushroom taco with peanut sauce, some kind of shaved ice with flowers and savory spices, esquites with red, black and yellow corn. Alex was our super nice server (best moustache in DF) and explained every dish, the ingredients and best way to enjoy the flavors. I would highly recommend that the next reservation you make in Mexico City be Pehua. read more

Quite a disappointment after seeing some good reviews. Even when not compared to the dining st Quintonil (which can't even really be compared to this), it was a poor restaurant experience in general. With a totally empty restaurant and a booking, we were not able to ask for S certain table even when politely requested because they seat in "zones" depending on time? I've never heard of this in all my dining out but given that we were first in for dinner it should have been easy to accommodate this request. The restaurant was a bit dark but ambiance was fine. When seated we were given two breads , one of huitlacoche and one of pulque which was unpleasantly sweet. When we asked for more of just the one we liked, they gave us one of each saying that they had to bring them out as one of each? Again, I've never heard of this in any other establishment and it seems like it promotes waste given that one was really horrible while the other was good. The accompanying salsa was not at all spicy and when I requested a spicy sauce, they informed me that they had no other spicy sauce . . . Again, a first for me in Mexico when generally restaurants have multiple salsas of different spice levels (and really the salsa provided was more like tomato sauce and not at ALL spicy). The tamale with escamoles was dry and the tamale itself had nothing inside. Just pure, dry masa that wasn't particularly well-flavored or inspired. The esquites were good but not unique. The duck was good but not cooked to order, as I requested rare or medium rare and it was medium to well done. The waiters consistently confused which dishes my boyfriend and I ordered. In addition, they were close to pouring us wine that we didn't order. The waiters were well meaning but not trained well. There was only one large bottle of sparkling water and it was not cold. When we tried to order another they said they only had small, personal sized ones left. The tortillas with the meal were ok, but very thick. Finally, after a pretty mediocre experience they added extra charges to the bill which we had to sort out. Perhaps this place has potential, but first some serious issues to work out. read more

Opened recently and a "hidden" gem. Similar to some other famous restaurants Pehua seeks to bring together fresh ingredients from around Mexico. The 8 course tasting menu was incredible as were the cocktails (didn't do the wine pairing but the beer list was good also). read more

We had a wonderful experience at Pehua for late lunch. We were impressed with the cocktails and found the food to be exceptional. Following such a pleasant experience, however, when my wife was paying and our server asked how much gratuity to add and she replied "10%" he responded with "Oh, that bad?" She explained, no, that it was fine/good, but that is what we understood to be customary in Mexico. He stated that for "fine dining" the minimum was 15%. We pleaded ignorance to that, but complied and of course, we felt like heels, but OK, fair enough. Rather than leaving it at that, though, he continued by asking us where we were from and if it was our first day in Mexico City. You know, implying we were hicks who'd never left their village (of New York City). Then, he backtracked and tried to suggest some tourist destinations for us. LOL...ahhhh, that's fine, really. Basically, he ruined what was a really nice experience up to that point. Going forward, we will be tipping 15%+, but we absolutely won't be back to Pehua. read more
