The excitement with which my child talks about the day's work, and the enthusiasm for learning that has been instilled, are very encouraging. I truly appreciate the Montessori approach, especially the practical life aspect, which has positively shaped my child's day-to-day habits. I'm also grateful for school's effort to educate parents on the Montessori philosophy and methods, as there is a lot that I have been able to incorporate into my home life with positive results for my family. The teachers were continually patient and understanding with my child, who had long stretches of regularly getting upset during the drop-off time. I would highly recommend Auburn's House to any parent!

Our daughter had been in a traditional classroom preschool setting which included circle time, small group work, and play time. What we started to realize is that she was developing a dislike for learning. She would fuss and not want to stay if we ever arrived at school during circle time or small groups. As an educator and PhD candidate studying Education this really bothered me. Knowing about the Montessori method, I began to search for this curriculum as I felt it might be a better fit for my child. I found Auburn's House and have been so pleased. My daughter is excited to go to school again, and loves to tell us everything she is learning! At school, our daughter is taught in a manner that develops the whole-child. This is very important as we want her to be well-rounded and have a variety of interests. In addition, the school supports the emotional and social aspects of the child that is void in most other settings. This gives her the ability to become an independent learner and explore the world around her. The special attention to the emotional and social skills has turned our quiet and somewhat shy child into a confident and independent child. While we could go on for pages about the benefits of this type of education, especially for preschool age children, the best way to get an idea of what an AMAZING place this school is for children is to visit and watch the interactions between the students and the teachers. It is truly something I never could have imagined after my years in education. Ms. Auburn has a gift, and we have been so lucky to be able to reap the benefits of her gift. Each child is an individual and Ms. Auburn appreciates this and helps each individual to grow on his/her own path. This is so important to us as parents, and to me as an educator. I could not have chosen a better place for my child!

We visited a few schools in the area, as well as around San Francisco prior to moving to Monterey, but didn't find a place that we were comfortable with until Ryan Ranch. I called Ryan Ranch the moment I heard of it from a nanny at the park and was super impressed upon learning about their curriculum from Miss. Kelly over the phone. I went in the next day to tour the facility and knew it was exactly where my 2-year-old belonged. I went back again the following day with my daughter and husband, and they felt the exact same way as me. It was such a pleasure to see my very shy 2-year-old jump up and down asking if she could stay. Things that stood out to us were the structure, the learning opportunities being offered and the fact that the children seemed very happy. Now, two months in, we are happier than we imagined we could be. My daughter is well taken care of, and though she went in with far more knowledge than a typical 2-year-old, she is still learning new things. She has become more confident, outgoing, and self-sufficient, which has been a real pleasure to watch over such a short time. The owner, Miss Loretta, goes above and beyond, and is very easy to connect with and talk to. TLDR: The Children's Center is a safe and inspiring environment for a child to learn and grow, and I would recommend it for any parents that are looking for more than a typical daycare for their young children.

For example just the other week my five year old was introduced to multiplication! There are tons of manipulatives in the classroom that make the learning hands on and engaging. I love that my boys are able to learn at their own pace and they are able to work with classmates to share ideas. The staff are all very kind, patient and supportive. However, your experience here is very dependent on your situation going into the school. There is a lot of affluence here as you can imagine, and you'll be exposed to that as parents, and your kid will as well. For most of the parents and kids at the school, its a world they are comfortable with. For those not in that circle, you will quickly realize that it's not your circle...and your kid will too. Towards the end of our time here, our daughter was old enough to understand these things, and that was very disappointing to us. It's a private school with all that it entails; that needs to be understood before deciding on sending your child here. While a good school, it's not for everyone.

Dear readers, as an individual who attended this school in the past, I must honestly express that I…read morefind it to be an unsatisfactory investment for your child's education. My time at SCM was quite extensive, but I eventually transferred to another institution due to the persistent issue of bullying, which remained prevalent from 1st to 6th grade without any effective intervention from the school administration. During my time in 6th grade, I endured both physical and mental bullying to such an extent that it necessitated my admission to a Mental Health Hospital for various reasons. Shockingly, the three girls responsible for this reprehensible behavior faced no consequences, resulting in me missing out on my graduation day and celebration due to their actions. This unfortunate reality extended to my friend as well, as he was also targeted and compelled to switch schools. Moreover, it is important to note that I am autistic and suffer from a chronic illness that causes severe pain when walking or running. Regrettably, the school disregarded my condition and failed to provide any support or accommodation during times of autistic meltdowns. I found their indifference towards my physical and emotional struggles disheartening and disconcerting. When I requested alternative activities during physical education classes to alleviate my chronic pain, the school administration threatened to involve my parents, rather than understanding and addressing my health concerns with compassion and empathy. In terms of education, I observed a significant emphasis on the subjects in which students demonstrated proficiency, while minimal effort was made to help students struggling in other areas. This unbalanced approach hindered overall academic growth and development. In conclusion, my personal experience at this school was largely negative, and I believe there are superior educational establishments available. However, it is essential to recognize that individual experiences may vary, and some individuals might find benefit in this environment. Regardless, I urge prospective parents and students to exercise caution and carefully consider their options before making a decision.

She is equally impressively intuitive in her individualized approach to daily challenges. She continues to throw epic parties for certain holidays, and her level of creativity and generosity displayed at these events serves as irrefutable evidence of her continued passion, dedication, and love for these tiny humans in her care. Her helper, Ms Elizabeth, has been outstanding as well! If you are thinking about checking out this preschool, I strongly recommend that you refrain from waiting. Her classes can fill up super fast, and there's pretty much no turnover through the year because she's so fantastic. Take it from my firsthand cautionary tale -- I waited, wished, prayed, and hoped for one full year that a spot would open up mid-year, but it was to no avail. I'm profoundly grateful that our turn finally came! Ms LaRay is so naturally nurturing that she sometimes calls the kids by the cutest nicknames. She truly cares about what your child is learning, how they are learning it, and making sure they are having fun doing it. My children both belonged to a different preschool only because the times that Laugh, Play, Learn offered did not work out with my schedule. Had it worked out with my schedule I would have immediately placed them in LaRay's care. I was fortunate, however, to have been able to place them at Laugh, Play, Learn for a semester while I was in school. The preschool that my children were currently at could not take them in on a day that I needed care during the week so LaRay graciously opened up her school to take them in when she was actually closed. LaRay has such a warm, loving, HUGE, heart of gold. Each time I picked them up my kids would be singing about blending words, sight words, and numbers that they learned with LaRay. I noticed that their handwriting skills were so much better on the day that they were with her. SO SO SO much better than the school that they were currently in. I am a student and unfortunately my flexablity is limited. I cannot tell you how often I would stare at my school schedule hoping that there was some way for me to make it fit so that my children could attend LaRay's school. I truly hope that to those of you who are looking for the right school will look the Laugh, Play, and Learn. LaRay offers your child outstanding handwriting skills, a love of science and nature, and math skills where your children know how to count to 100, by 2's,5's, and 10's. Your child will not only learn all of the skills above, but will actually ENJOY learning them and will want to know more. Enroll your child at Laugh, Play, Learn - it is a wonderful way to start their love of learning early. This is my 4 year old's second…read moreyear at Villa and he started as an extremely shy and sweet kid with no previous day care or school experience. In the past year, he has blossomed into an independent and assertive child, and he has learned a lot both academically and socially. Villa has an amazing ratio of 1-8 (3 teachers per classroom of 24 kids) that sometimes falls to 1-6 or 1-7. They are a true Montessori school, and the child stays with the same teachers for all the years. My son's two main teachers, Mrs. Fan and Mrs. De Silva, have been with the school for over a decade. My son has received a lot of individualized attention and loves his teachers. I think he would like to live with Mrs. Fan if given the chance. :) The teachers at Villa are extremely good at what they do and very passionate about Montessori education. When I went in for "observation day," each child was doing a different "job," so the teachers were managing 24 different activities, but everything was still very orderly. Even the tiny 2.5 year olds knew the rules and everyone knew to clean up. We really appreciate how diligent our son has become with washing hands, tidying up spaces, and wiping surfaces! Director Lin's leadership is also really exceptional. She is extremely organized, responsible, and sets clear expectations for the kids and parents. I love that the handbook, documents, twice-a-year report cards, and paperwork are all in good order. She is also very hands-on and I have seen her consoling a crying child in her lap, spoon feeding another child during lunch, and taking the time to talk with the kids individually. I am so impressed that she takes the time to get to know every one of the forty-some kids at Villa. She works many many hours at Villa and commutes from an hour away. Villa is not just a job for her - this is her life's purpose. Everyone at the school is very responsive and excellent with communication. Karen (who manages most of the administrative tasks) and Director Lin will usually respond to messages on Brightwheel within a few hours. We really appreciate how they take parent concerns very seriously. The flexibility of programs at Villa is also great - they have AM program (9-12 pm), PM program (1-4 pm), PM plus extended care (1-5 pm), full day (9-4 pm), or full day plus extended care (9-5 pm). I feel very lucky to be able to enroll my child in a half day program so that he gets a few hours of school every day, and we still get enough hours to go on an adventure together outside of school. One really brilliant and unique thing about Villa is that their after-school program (school ends at 4, there is another hour of after school until 5 pm) teaches the children Mandarin Chinese! I enrolled my son in the after school hour just for the Chinese class - Mrs. Fan and Mrs. Liu are both excellent Chinese teachers from Taiwan. I sat in on one class to see what it would be like, and was astounded that all of the kids had excellent pronunciation. Chinese tones are very difficult so it was really surprising to see a room full of non-Chinese kids speaking perfect Chinese! Lastly, the other Villa families also makes this place special. Villa is a non-profit with a governing board that is made up of parents. We really appreciate the parents that have taken on this responsibility. We have also made many friends at Villa, and really appreciate the sense of community. We truly couldn't have asked for a better preschool experience and will definitely miss this school when our son graduates!

Yes, with all the guilt I felt, I felt strongly and needed to start providing for myself and my little one. So I was referred to this place when my 3 year old was having a hard time adjusting being away from both my partner and I. Angel and Gio are rockstars! They have been a blessing to myself and my little one who continues to grow more knowledgeable. Every time I drop him off, he's already rushing to go inside or reaching for Gio to carry him. It's the sweetest thing to see him attached to another individual outside of myself or my partner. They are as more involved with my child's upbringing than myself. And that's okay. I know in the long haul for development purposes that this was the right choice. They were reasonable and extremely flexible with us. I would recommend this place 1000% over and that's because they send me memos, notes, lovely pictures of how my child is doing. Always updating me and ensuring that I'm involved with things that could help with his development. They go above and beyond to ensure your child is always getting the best out of their day, with play time, healthy home cooked meals and ensuring they at least get 30-1hr worths nap and I just don't know how they do it all, but they do because they are compassionate human beings who love our little one and you could totally tell by the way they handle their daycare.
