I love bookstores especially independent ones that sell used books. Asked the front desk for assistance and she was quick to help. Offered to order a book that they didn't have. Bought 3 books, 1 new/2 used total under $40. Great bargain! Would def come back. Need to check out the Oakland location.

I don't go to Berkeley very often. In fact I hadn't been to this part of Berkeley in at least 3 or 4 years, I had never been inside Pegasus. I have well a defined library and as much as I would love to simply impulse shop I have very specific items I am looking for and very specific genres that I consume. Mostly this comes down to cooking, travel, cartography, historical cartography, artistic cartography, photography, other art and gardening. Here they have a wonderful selection of art books. Books of art, about art and how to art. I found a few things I had been looking for used. The staff was super chill and way helpful. I had some light business in the area and decided to get lunch next door. My visit was primarily a way to kill time and empty my wallet.

It may be the only bookstore on Solano Avenue or at least the only one worth a reasonable browse. I'm most familiar with their College Avenue store since it was just a block from the Rockridge BART station where I used to commute. But now that my life has moved from summer to autumn with a few of my leaves discolored and falling off, this outlet is now the one closest to me. The irony is that the clientele actually does seem older here. It also feels a little bigger but just as densely stocked with no place to sit, which I assume is an intentional business decision. But even though Amazon provides deep discounts, Pegasus is an indie that deserves my support like purchasing local legend Betty Reid Soskin's bio, "Sign My Name to Freedom", here (photo: http://bit.ly/2Di55AS). The bookstore was very well ventilated and had a variety of unique books. My favorite book I found was a 1952 chess book that had original documents from chess matches in 1954.

Knowledgeable book staff. Great selection! Welcoming environment. Unique selection of magazines and specialty books along with current bestsellers.

Love this place. Real old-bookstore feel complete with salesman just crotchety enough to be genuine. He can be excused because I had the calendars I came for and then spotted a box of unprocessed 2nd hand books near the register. Not being able to resist a whole stack of vintage Dell and ACE SF books my eyes fell on a little green volume with a sailor on the front and the title A SEAMAN'S COLLECTION OF GREAT SEA STORIES. Well. Had to have it. Asked if I could buy even though it was not yet priced or shelved. Man said he'd look it up. Proceeded to mumble to himself (and to me?) Grumpy mc-grumperson then said, "$8?". Says I, "I'll take it!" Says he, "That is a very good price you know!" Yes. But for Captain Alan Villiers' collection of stories from Joseph Conrad, William McFee, Sir Ernest Shackleton, and more, a real deal! Book measures 4"x6.5", of lovely old paper with green-tinted page edges.

All aboard! Decent selection on children's books

Affordable discounted books in like new condition I mainly searched the children's section and found some good used books as well as some brand new ones (at full price). Another star for the really cool selection of cards I always enjoy a unique card and they had plenty of them. I will definitely be back.

This quirky neighborhood bookstore almost makes me want to ditch my kindle. Also they welcome doggies with biscuits and ear scratches.

Not a ton, but it's something to help fund the a virtuous habit (reading!) Their annual calendar sale is fun, and I just love the vibe that Pegasus adds to Solano Ave.

Save your time! Save your money!…read moreIt's time that they got what was coming. We came here and it was an absolute waste. Most of the stuff they have are packed up in the boxes that you can see in some of the pictures. You can also see they pulled a lot of stuff off the shelves and the prices are higher. I have a picture of two of the same books. One looks used. The other one looks new and one is 699 and the other one is 599. It isn't like one has a signature or anything. It's not special. It just cost more. The people who work there were kind of just hanging around in the back and not doing much. And they're already closed! I remember what the days when they were open until 10 11 o'clock at night but that was a long time ago back when they were relevant. I say it's karma because they didn't buy everybody's books. I have a picture of them saying they are no longer buying books. They don't buy books from Black people, full stop! And so. Bye!!! The problem they always said they had my books that my books are old. So why am I looking at a bookstore with nothing but old books. If they have separate pricing for Black people, they should just say that and suffered the consequences for that. This is a place I used to go to for all my books and I loved going there because I love getting a bargain, however, when I wanted to sell some books that's when things got funky. I find it interesting that I get more money from other places selling less books than I've ever gotten from them and I never did do my experiment where a white friend would walk in and sell my books so that I could see how much money she got. I bet she wouldn't have been told about how old her books are, which is hard to understand when the books are old as Methuselah! But, now they won't be my inspiration for purchasing off of Amazon, which is pretty much what they've become to me. I see a book in the store, look up the author and the book online, and if I can get it at my library or on Amazon, I will get it because I don't wanna waste money with people who say they buy books and don't buy them., full stop! Bye...

The vibe here is old skool intellectual lounge meets chic cocktail connoisseur. (Although I enjoyed a crisp glass of white wine during my second visit.) I went to Clio's in the first 6 months of them opening and my partner and I have not been back. When I entered the space, I was excited to try something new- but it started when I went to order tea- I know now that the guy at the bar was the owner- I asked what kind of teas they had and he seemed annoyed at my question- like I was wasting his time. I had to ask again but then asked my partner who is white to deal with the rest of the ordering. We are a queer couple and both felt the vibes were hella off. Lots of white men in the space at that time. I also remember they didn't used to have any books by people of color. They had a "world" section of books though (lol) and throughout the rest of the place, a bunch of stuff written by white men. I feel like the stuff they have up now is a performative attempt to not appear what they actually are. I have not gone back since and don't recommend it
