I want to warn others about a concerning experience my 75-year-old mother had with a mechanic…read more My mom has a 2005 Honda Civic with under 60,000 miles. The car has never been in an accident and has always been well-maintained, with regular oil changes and services as needed. She primarily drives it along Route 6 to get to work. Recently, she realized her inspection was about to expire, so she brought the car to a mechanic next door for an inspection. After the inspection, the mechanic informed her that there was a leak but did not specify the type. He quoted her $350 for repairs, but my mom didn't notice any leaks where she parks. Since she has a trusted mechanic she usually goes to, she decided to take the car there instead. However, after driving the car to work later that same day, it stalled in the middle of the road. I want to mention that the mechanic had put the car on a lift during the inspection, and we noticed when we got the car back that the tail light was out. Since you can't pass inspection with a broken tail light, we found that concerning. After the incident with the car stalling, we discovered that the transmission had been damaged, and my mom now needs a new one. We strongly believe that the next-door mechanic did something to the transmission during the inspection, but, of course, we can't prove it. After speaking with my mother's neighbors, I learned that they have had similar issues with this mechanic; two of their cars have been messed up by him. One of my mom's friends also shared that he had a bad experience with the same mechanic. My mom's neighbor mentioned that the mechanic came over to apologize to her, which raises further concerns, especially since he claimed he is not an actual mechanic. We are bringing my mom's car to the junkyard to trade for parts, and she is getting a new car. We are reporting this mechanic to the Better Business Bureau, and I encourage anyone who has had a similar experience to do the same. Please be cautious and do your research before trusting this mechanic with your vehicle. I just want to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.
