My son has gone through both their ECTC program and summer camp, and I honestly can't say enough about the staff and the level of care they provide. My son started at Pediatric Minds from when he was 5 and 5 years later the kid is a completely different child. With the guidance of Dr. Hanneur we were able to get him the help and resources that he needed. There is no way we could have navigated through all the hoops without the wonderful staff and Dr. Hanneur. The office staff has always been so graceful and patient with us. During the ETCT program they have gone above and beyond watching my little one and the other one as well when we needed to speak to Dr. Hanneur alone. When we are running late they have accommodated us multiple times. We've gotten earlier appointments by being on their cancellation list. The billing department has worked with us to try and get insurance to pay for many services. Candace and Melissa are so nice and helpful. Just today we were running late and they were so helpful and assured us 10 mins would be okay. We had to get a referral and the process was streamlined and so efficient. Our daughter started this program with pretty severe Separation Anxiety Disorder. If her mom or I stepped out of the room for even 30 seconds she would start to panic. Through graduated exposure therapy PM was able to take her from dreading her drops offs to looking forward to them. Dr. Cori helped us to understand the roots of her anxiety and how we can help our daughter to feel less anxious going forward. We were provided with simple concrete recommendations to improve our parenting. One of their book recommendations "How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen" by Faber has been super helpful. Much of parenting is not intuitive. They also performed a full IQ assessment and interpreted the results so that we could see how her anxiety was negatively impacting her performance in certain domains and what could be done about it. In my opinion they have changed the trajectory of our daughter's life for the better. I feel so much more equipped to help her have the best possible future going forward. This place is AMAZING!!! I can't believe my son, Daniel, graduated after nearly 6 years in the program. When he started ECTC back in 2016, it was a rough time. We didn't know what to do or how to help him. They worked with him and us to get him through it. We were SO PROUD of him when he graduated that program. He then moved on to Phase two and just graduated last month. The multiple therapists that he's had over the years were GREAT! They felt like family to us and Daniel misses them all. He wishes he could go back. From age 3 to age 9, my son is a completely different kid. He learned all the necessary tools to help him control his behavior and socialize with his peers. The social skills group was one of his favorites. Miss Maranda and Miss Michaela will be truly missed, but we promise to swing by for a visit once in a while. read more

I brought my son to Pediatric Minds at the end of December 2019. When my son first started kindergarten he had a very difficult time, unable to stay on task, was emotionally unstable, and had a lot of anxiety to go to school. I received text messages from the teacher on a daily and at times multiple times a day about his "bad behavior". He didn't fit in a structured environmen. He earned the reputation of the "Bad Kid". Multiple times I visited the class and nothing was helping. After trying to discipline him with rewarding for good behavior or grounding for bad behavior nothing seemed to work. A whole year went by and I was frustrated with the situation. We moved him to a private school hoping a different environment would help but it didn't, the school said he wasn't ready for school to return next year. At this point even my marriage was getting affected by the situation, my husband and I couldn't agree on how to discipline our sons. I took the approach of loving behavior and my husband wanted a more strict behavior. I felt in heart my son need more, we couldn't continue letting him believe he was "Bad" because he wasn't a "bad" he is loving, passionate, caring, smart, funny, and compassionate in many ways he had an old soul. One of the times I pick him up from school after getting in trouble he cried to me and said: "Mommy I'm sorry I'm a bad kid, I try and try but my brain doesn't let me be good". I felt like someone had punched me in my gut!!! How can my beautiful 5-year boy felt so terrible? That conversation was the push that I need to look for professional help. I believe that it was God who guided me to Pediatric Minds, I wasn't recommended, I simply went online and search to found them. It was a four-month waiting list to meet with Dr. Pantea. We had our first appointment with Dr. Pantea in November and after 2 hours of patiently hearing me, she recommended that Thiago do a 10-week intensive social skills program. She said that for Thiago to complete the program he would need the support of the family. At first, I was in denial how can my son have mental issues?!!! Hispanics don't believe in mental illness, we don't even talk about" but that day I went home and told my husband I'm doing this for my son with you or without... but if you're in we have to be in all. If we want Thiago to successful in life we need to do anything and everything to help him get there. Thiago was extremely blessed to have met Mr. Simone from the first day at clinic. Mr. Simone was Thiago's person he helps him learn how to get to the Green Zone when you're in the Red Zone, to understand what is a Big Deal from a Little Deal, how to take turns, Consider other peoples feelings, expressed his feelings and learning that feeling sad ha not bad is a healthy feeling. The first time I saw Mr. Simone interact with him we knew he was in the right place. Mr. Simone had the patience, understanding, and love that he needs it to help my beautiful boy be him not the "Bad Kid" he believed he was. Because Thiago is more much more thanks to Mr. Simone. For the next weeks, Mr. Simone became Thiago's everything his support his teacher his mentor. We would pick him up and he would tell us all about Mr. Simone. To this day Thiago thinks of Mr. Simone and wishes he could visit. I don't think that Thiago would be where he is now if it wasn't for Mr. Simone. We own Mr. Simone everything Thiago is now, he now knows he is not a "Bad Kid" but he just needs a little help to regulate his ADHD. For that, we will FOREVER be grateful. THANK YOU, MR. Simone!!!! We also found a lot of support from Dr. J she was my rock every single step of the way. She helped us all understand the kind of help Thiago need it. She was my backbone when I was fighting for my son to get and EIP at his school, she supported us during the meeting and showed us that we need to have an open mind about mental health. We learn that is okay to talk about it and to accept that medication is not bad. And that Thiago taking medication wasn't going to stop him from being Thiago he is was always going to be that beautiful boy I knew since birth. But now he was going to be able to express and explain his emotions. Thiago completed the 10-week program at the end of December, and he is doing SO MUCH BETTER!! literally day and night. A lot has changed we all changed after Pediatric Minds, if we want our son to overcome anything we also need to change along with him. Now during long-distance learning, Thiago can sit down complete tasks, interact during class sessions. He is one of the smarts kids in the class and has learned to read and math is his favorite subject. I will continue to help my son and look for workshops and new options to help him with his ADHD. But if it wasn't for all the help we received at Pediatric Minds I'm not sure if Thiago would be doing so good. Yes, he would've gotten help one way or another. read more

My 3.5 year old son attended Pediateic Minds for about 12 weeks in the summer of 2022 and emerged a completely different kiddo. Leaving the school, he came away with so many different life skills that will help him navigate the world and help him be more successful at a mainstream school. He was also mostly non verbal when he started - and before he left he had a burst of language that I attribute completely to PM. I cannot thank them enough for all the kindness they showed my son and our family, especially while we welcomed a new baby into the family. Not only did they help us while he was enrolled, they helped us set up a plan for the future. I'm so appreciative of everything PM has done for us. When I first called Pediatric Minds, I was in the beginning stages of identifying some red flags with my son's development, feeling vulnerable and unsure of next steps. But those feelings were put at ease as soon as I started the process. Melissa was my first encounter with Pediatric Minds and she made all the difference. She was warm, welcoming and was excellent with registering my son as a new patient while providing a clear outline of what to expect during the diagnosis process. Our first meeting with Dr. Hannauer gave me a sense of relief and hope, I knew my son was in good hands the first few minutes of meeting her. She immediately greeted him then me, and proceeded to play with him on the floor. During this meeting, she asked questions about our family history, my son's developmental history and my concerns. She recommended my son to their Early Childhood Treatment Center and provided me with helpful resources to navigate the year of diagnosis and starting related therapies. While we waited for our 2nd appt with the psychologist, we were also on the waitlist for the ECTC Program. Once a spot became available, my son began the program and within 3 weeks, I noticed a huge difference. He was more aware of his environment, interested in interacting with people more than things and started to communicate. I highly recommend the ECTC Program, a one stop shop that provides comprehensive therapy. My son just finished ECTC last month. He was having such a tough time, and it is so difficult to get connected to the right testing and services, especially having to navigate insurance. This program was recommended by a friend and I had no idea what we were getting into, but I will be eternally grateful to this team and their expertise and support. The frequency and consistency of the therapies and parent trainings, along with the recommendations and assessments really helped paint a clearer picture that might have taken us months or years to get to otherwise. My son really benefitted from the intervention, and we started to see him more relaxed, flexible, and happy than he had been in a long time. Update: Got called in at 5:37pm. (Latest appt was for 3:30pm) I haven't seen the doctor yet..this review is of my experience thus far... Daughter had a 1:30pm appt. Got there at 1:27pm. 10minutes later, my daughter tells me they cancelled her appointment because I never confirmed. I told them that that was their error. I confirmed the slot and said I would call to cancel if appointment was not needed. She was told sorry, but can't really do anything about that. They have other appointments scheduled. I would guess some of those appointments were confirmed after ours , so why can't they tell those people 'sorry, we made a mistake' and let them wait? Hmm... then they finally said we could come back in 2 hours. Now my afternoon plans are shot. So we hang around somewhere because it's a little drive from home and come back at 3:25pm (5 minutes early). May I tell you all that I am writing this review at 5:12pm and we are STILL in lobby waiting to be seen?!?! We were told that doctor took a patient that was 50minutes late!! First we were told she would be out in 30 min, an hour later, we were told another 20 minutes.. It's been almost 45min after that and still no idea when this doctor is coming. If we reschedule, have to wait a month! So, someone was almost an hour late and she takes them, but won't take my daughter who was on time and your scheduler screwed up?? Completely unacceptable. My whole afternoon is shot just waiting around..... Also when we got there, 2 kids were in waiting room and they got called in about an hour later... What the heck?? I am obviously frustrated and I don't think anyone in this world would see this as acceptable business practice. My time is just as valuable. Where does one begin to talk about a program that truly changed our lives... About a year and a half ago, our family was struggling. Our five-year-old was having major emotional and social issues. We had been trying to get him the right help for about a year, but because of the pandemic, waitlists were long, many people were not seeing patients in-person (which we knew he needed) and we were sent in circles through referral after referral. When we finally did get him to his first neurologist (not at Pediatric Minds), they diagnosed him as having ODD and ADHD. While we agreed that he likely had ADHD, the ODD diagnosis never sat right with us. He wasn't defiant; he was struggling. It also didn't explain his emotional outbursts and behaviors, not fully. So we took our son to his first therapist (again, not at Pediatric Minds), who agreed that it didn't seem to be ODD. She thought it might be severe anxiety and warned us that his stimulant medication might be making his anxiety and emotional problems worse. His school and his pediatrician suspected autism, but the Harbor Regional Center's therapists said it was just ADHD. We didn't know what to do or where to turn. We just knew we needed help. That's when we found the Pediatric Minds Early Childhood Treatment Center. Working with the therapists and doctors at Pediatric Minds was the best decision we could ever have made. The staff are amazing. They are so caring and supportive, and it was such a relief to have all of our son's team under one roof, working together to find the best treatment plan possible. They really took the time to get to know and understand our kiddo in a way that his previous doctors and therapists never did. They evaluated him holistically, diagnosed him, and reevaluated his meds to find a combination that was right for him. It was like the missing puzzle pieces had been found. Finally, all of our kiddo's behaviors started to make sense. They also took the time to design and implement a behavioral and occupational therapy plan for him. They used group play-based therapy, so my son was able to interact with other autistic children and practice the social and emotional skills he was learning in the moment, which was extremely helpful. My son genuinely loved and looked forward to going to Pediatric Minds every day. He talked so fondly about his behavioral therapists, especially Mr. Simon. And every session he seemed to take away a new skill or solidify one he had learned in a previous session. It was gradual, but it was clearly helping. But the ECTC program also helped my husband and I. As a parent, one of the hardest things is to watch your child struggle and not know what's wrong or how to help them...so we particularly appreciated the parent education and support that the ECTC program offered. Dr. Cori and Dr. Hannauer really helped my husband and I understand our son's condition and gave us actionable and insightful information and tips on how to best support him and meet his social and emotional needs. They also gave us recommendations on how to continue helping our son grow even after the program ended. That parent support helped us better connect with our son and strengthened our relationship with him. Both my son's teachers and my husband and I started seeing a big difference within a matter of weeks on the new meds and therapy. Then, two months into the program, we had a parent-teacher conference at his school. I was dreading it, but his general education teacher looked at us stunned and asked us, "what did you do? You know what...it doesn't matter. Keep doing it! He's doing great!" I literally broke down crying; I was so relieved. And our son's progress only continued throughout the rest of the program. We saw so much growth and change in him. He became better able to process his emotions, more able to socialize and make friends, he stopped eloping, and he was able to better focus and engage at school. Best of all, his silly, sweet, caring personality started to shine through. Nine months after graduating from Pediatric Minds, our son is thriving. He's excelling in school and loves it; although it's early in the school year, he's spending all day in general education classes and hasn't gone to his SDC room once. He's got a ton of friends, and he's able to stay at the after school program without a one-on-one behavioral aid now. And now that his ADHD is managed and his social-emotional needs are met, he's been able to show his teachers and friends what a smart, funny, and caring kid he is. He's also gone from getting "area of concern" on every aspect of his report card to consistently meeting or exceeding grade level expectations. He still has his challenges, and we're working with him, but overall, he's doing great. So to the entire staff of Pediatric Minds: THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts. We were given a strong recommendation to send our 4 year old girl to Pediatric Minds to treat anxiety which started to inhibit her ability to make friends, talk to others, and even take naps at preschool. Despite a long wait list into the program, our girl was fast approaching Kindergarten and we knew that the longer we waited, the worse things could develop. What we thought was simply a shy personality had morphed into clinginess, frequent tantrums, and defiance. As parents, we were worried about her well-being and her little brother's safety. Once we were accepted and informed that a spot was available for our daughter, we were ready for the commitment. The ECTC program not only pours out resources into their children, it also requires quite commitment from the families--to keep up with homework, strategies, and meetings. They will repeatedly remind you that this is an intensive program, and everybody must be all-in. So we changed our daughter's school schedule and modified our home & work routines to make this work... and it was completely worth it. How good was it? Our girl loved attending the program from day 1. We loved her teachers and the staff who were caring and knowledgeable while being funny and fun. In terms of treatment, they were honest to us and we took to heart what they suggested. The first couple weeks in the program are used to build a trusting relationship before they push and test and observe starting around week 3. That's when we started getting more feedback regarding our girl's battles. Through one-on-one activities as well as group interactions, they deliberately worked through various situations and shared their results with us. Occasionally, they realized that their initial assumptions were wrong and had to rework their theories (e.g. our girl wouldn't always get nervous or shut down in similar circumstances). But usually they were pretty accurate in their description of our girl's struggles, and they were open to hearing about the impact to our home life (and they asked for it). Around week 7, we were heartbroken when we were told that our insurance was stopping coverage. And we were willing to pay out-of-pocket for an additional week or two because we felt we had made so much progress and needed more answers and tools to feel complete. But fortunately, the director was able to get our insurance to give us 10 weeks, at which time we celebrated a big accomplishment with our girl who had shown tremendous improvement. Today, I'm reviewing 10 weeks after she graduated from the program. She's not "fixed" and we're not expert parents by any means. But we're equipped. Our girl still wrestles with anxiety and is taking medication, but we are able to create plans and goals for various settings which gives us confidence to do family activities that weren't previously possible. In the past 2 months, we've been able to do playdates again and our girl even successfully walked down the aisle as a wedding flower girl! She was so proud of herself, and a big credit goes to ECTC. We wish we had a better experience. We were given a tour, which we thought was just a tour but it ended up being a tour/apparently quick assessment of our child. After the tour we met with the insurance coordinator who gave us a call after two months confirming that our son would begin the program...which was odd because the dr hadn't met our child. In the back of my mind I just wondered how we were approved for the program without the Dr. meeting our son and understanding how program would benefit him. We were given a bunch of intake forms to fill out and they said they'll let us know when to turn it in (which we completed and still have). One day before the start date, they informed us that our insurance would not approve the intake. We call insurance and they told us that Pediatric Minds provided them with an assessment that didn't justify our son needing their services. We appealed with insurance twice and explained why our son needed their services. We were denied each time. I called Pediatric Minds to inquire how they justified what he needed without even meeting our son to understand his needs. My intent was to partner with them to align their perception with ours so that we can appeal together. No call back, I've left messages for three weeks now. We were really hoping that their neurologist would help our son because we've tried other therapies for three years and we thought their intensive program would really help us understand how to help him more. Maybe this is indication that it's not the best fit program because of the gaps in their process. It's discouraging and frustrating. The decision to take our son to Pediatric Minds was a slam dunk and you should do it to! What are you waiting for? Take the shot! From Dr. Hannauer to Dr. Fujii (Cori) to AJ, Simon, Vanessa, and the entire ECTC team, you can't go wrong. There are many decisions we make as parents that fall short of expectations and we question whether we made the correct choice...THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS! Sure, you'll need to convince your insurance why ECTC is a better solution than so many in-network providers. And why is that? Well, the insurance guidelines just look at medical necessity as defined as any neurologist or any psychiatrist. The problem? CHILDREN ARE NOT ADULTS. Yes, say that 3-times out loud, then realize you'll need to explain that to about a half-dozen to a dozen care managers, but DON'T GIVE UP. Your child will thank you for the investment you make now to set them on a path of SUSTAINED SUCCESS!!! Not only did we learn more about our son over 11-weeks than we had in the previous 8-years, we also learned how to communicate differently and effectively with our son. This is one of the many attributes about ECTC that makes them stand apart - they're focused on a holistic solution that involves the parents. A few hours of psychology appointments a week pails in comparison to the comprehensive measurement, analysis, and diagnosis garnered from extensive hours of observation, testing, and interaction...in our case ~165-hours of in-person care over 11-weeks, and countless hours of analysis. The ECTC team is committed to the sustained health of your child. You will have to battle with your insurance, but it is worth every penny. Pediatric Minds ECTC is an amazing program with an extremely caring and experienced team. We went into the program worried that it was going to be too intense for what we thought we needed at the time, but now I hate to imagine what would have happened if we had just struggled along patching one-off services without the comprehensive insights and deep intensive kick-start that we got from ECTC. We have observed a tremendous shift in our 4 yr old son's fundamental ability to make friends, and to manage his emotions and social dynamics. He "graduated" the ECTC program a different little guy, even reading our reports now, from his assessment when he started, it's almost hard to remember back to then, because of the progress he has made. His teachers also can't say enough good things about the positive skills and outlook that this program gave him. We feel so incredibly lucky that we found ECTC. Now that we are through the program, we are still lining up ongoing long-term supports ... but now we are spring-boarding those services off of a foundation of solid success, and we have a focused understanding of what will help him, and we have a very clear road-map to navigate the sea of different services that are out there. I have two kids that have been patients of Pediatric Minds and have both been through the Early Childhood Treatment Program there. The care and attention they received while they were at the program was amazing and the kids both made so much progress in their time there. More importantly what I learned as a parent to better help my kids was priceless. The care for the kids and resources for the parents were very important and I was very happy to have my kids be part of the program. Since their time at ECTC my kids have had regular visits with Dr. Hannauer to check on their progress and update their treatment plans. My 4-year-old son completed 12 weeks at the Pediatric Minds Early Childhood Treatment Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder, several speech disorders/delays, and a rare genetic syndrome. I cannot say enough good things about the people, the program, and the results. Everyone at the clinic is kind, knowledgable, passionate, empathetic, and invested. I felt like all of the staff went above and beyond to support our son and family as a whole. The strategies, tools, and resources we were given over the 3 months have been invaluable. He loved going to "camp" every single day and formed close relationships with both the therapists and other kids. His speech exploded, social skills skyrocketed, and overall we've seen him grow leaps and bounds. I personally learned so much from the parent observations, trainings, and weekly therapy sessions. The program gives you loads of information and resources for the present and the future. I have been incredibly grateful for this program and highly, highly recommend it to anyone with a child who is on the spectrum or has any other special needs. I am so thankful to have found this place. It's the most comprehensive therapy I have ever been apart of. They have a neurologist, psychologist, occupational therapist, speech pathologist, and BCBA on staff. If you really want to get a full assessment of your special needs child, this is the place! No other place compares. In fact, this place should be the standard of care for all assessments! Dr. Hannauer is an absolutely brilliant neurologist. She's like one of these people that you want to follow with a clip board around and jot down everything she says because you learn so much from her! Dr. Cori helped us so much become better parents by teaching us parenting techniques every week. It's like, why didn't they teach this at school! Everyone should learn this before having a child. Tiffany the speech pathologist is helping my child learn to have word associations to build her vocabulary and a better understanding that other people have thoughts outside of her mind. Neusha who is the BCBA is helping my child learn to understand social cues to better cope with her anxiety at school and in the community. My only regret is that I wish I found this place sooner! The amount of attention and care that the therapists, teachers, and staff have here are as close to how we (as parents) treat our own children. There has never been a moment where I did not trust what they were doing. Professional, kind, and knowledgable, we have seen vast improvements in our son's behavior due to the entire team at PM. We did not have a good experience here. Dr. Hannauer has a terrible bedside manner. She even started laughing when giving us some pretty scary results from some genetic testing (which of course she ordered but then told us that she doesn't know how to interpret because she isn't a geneticist). So we were sitting with test results that she ordered but couldn't tell us what they mean, and she is laughing at us while delivering the news! My son was diagnosed at age 2.5 and that was almost 1 year ago. Pediatric Minds was the first place we went for help. I think the hardest thing about bringing our son there was how bleak they were about his future. They told us he will never talk... then told us that he may talk but not to expect it until he is about 10. As a parent, this is so devastating and terrifying to hear. They were never encouraging or very supportive as our family was spinning in response to this new diagnosis. And now, 1 year later, I am very lucky to be able to say that he is speaking regularly in functional, spontaneous sentences, his play skills are great, and he is in a typical preschool classroom. And of course, I would never expect a provider to be able to predict the future... but give kids a chance before discounting what they can do! Especially when they are so young! We are still learning about child development and in my experience the pediatric minds "experts" were wrong. I think about the pain my family went through and some of it really was not necessary. I highly recommend that family's reach out to UCLA. Both their ECPHP and JASPER programs are truly amazing! I hope this helps families out there. read more

My little guy was diagnosed with moderate-to-severe ASD when he turned 2 1/2. After doing tons of research, I decided to start speech therapy (non-verbal until about 3), OT, and ABA. At 3 years old, he began IEP services in preschool, with the goal of mainstreaming as much as possible. I found a great support system with other parents at my preschool, and we were able to compare notes with each other (which programs were the best, which therapists were the most effective for their kids) and everyone recommended Pediatric Minds as "life changing". Well, I was sold. At 4 years old, I enrolled my son (there was a wait-list due to the high demand), and he started a 14-week Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Early Childhood Treatment Center. All I can say is WOW, the entire staff at Pediatric Minds is amazing! Dr. Hannauer is brilliant, and she has so much experience in pediatric neurology and early intervention. She is super resourceful, knowledgeable, and direct. She provided useful and practical options and solutions, which was refreshing. Dajana is the BCBA, and she reviewed my son's current ABA program, and coordinated with the current BCBA by re-directing its focus to more effectively address my son's most important issues, including his rigidity and anxiety that Pediatric Minds found was preventing him from progressing. Dr. Nicole (the psychologist) was so knowledgeable, practical, and patient with my son, and took the time to complete a full psychological assessment and IQ test, despite the fact that my son was so anxious that he could only pay attention for 10 minutes at a time. Knowing that my son was not communicative especially under stress, Dr. Nicole found a way to perform a non-verbal test and actually obtained an accurate assessment. I found that Pediatric Minds' multi-disciplinary approach was more effective because they not only addressed both my son's behavioral issues, but also taught him (and me) how to cope with his emotions. Pat was my son's primary behaviorist and was enthusiastic every day, and my son loved her (and still loves her - he still sometimes mentions her name weeks after the program ended). Ultimately, my son left the program "better" than when he came in, and that's truly all that I could ask for. The program changes lives, and ways of thinking. Pediatric Minds pinpointed primary issues with my son, those things that I didn't even realize was "holding him back" from taking the next step. During the program, I realized that my son's anxiety (to the point of PTSD symptoms), rigidity, and irrational fear was completely consuming. They helped my son with coping mechanisms so that he felt less anxious, so that he could overcome his fears on his own time. The idea was that if he was less anxious, he could concentrate on learning. As simple as it sounds, it just made sense, and they were completely right. My son's attention span/concentration has increased dramatically, he is willing to try new/different things, he can express himself better, and he is simply more comfortable in situations that would previously freak him out (irrationally). We haven't received the full report yet but I hear it is very comprehensive, a 60 page report which other parents have told me will become an essential guide to navigate my son through the school system (very useful in IEP when discussing the best approaches and necessary services to reach my son's potential). Again, I feel truly blessed that my son could attend this program. These professionals were always practical, creative, and enthusiastic every single day, and always trying to find ways to help my son. I can't recommend them enough! read more
