So many reviews wrote how elitist this practice was. I'm so glad I'm a person who forms their own opinion based on personal experience. If you have any doubts, schedule a visit, and go see for yourself. That's what I did; at my tour I received some literature which contained bios on each of the physicians in the practice, the packet of forms and a book for new moms on how to prepare for baby. Of those physicians, I personally opted to see Dr. Milvid. Although their were occasions when she wasn't available I saw others. Dr. Gorman is very good and friendly as well, she was the attending pediatrician at the hospital for my second child. The only negative, and I don't know if its any different now, but when I was having my son, the physicians of this practice did not perform circumcisions, it worked out for me that the other practice I was looking at did. So the other practice performed it, but ultimately I ended up bringing my son to Hales for his first doctor's appointment. If you are wondering what the deciding factor was for me in choosing Hales over the other practice, it was Office Administration. I didn't like how the administration handled my queries; they were attitudish, rude, impolite and crass. The doctor on the other hand was not, but before I get in to see the doctor I have to call the office, and that was just not something I was willing or able to do. The staff of ladies at Hales, have always been pleasant and courteous. However, there was/is one that I feel has personal feelings and seems to be prejudice, but she stands alone in that department. I have never felt it from any other member of the team. I can't completely say that this practice is all about the health of the child; it is a business, a medical one at that. They are in the business of making money, and you are flipping the bill so remember to utilize all the services they provide, if you need them. There were times my child(ren) were not feeling well, I didn't know what to do, I called the emergency line, the messaging center notifies the doctors, and the doctors call you back. Sometimes it can be up to an hour, but I have always received a callback. They are affiliated with Children's Hospital, so they will refer you to After-Hours Care in Metairie or the ER. Hopefully you will have a great an experience as we have. Just a Note* Non-conventional, New-age: child sits on parents lap during visits, combo vaccines, child does not remove all clothes, and all medical questions and test results will be told to you by physician.

No reviews for Dr. Collins Pediatrics? I'm actually surprised…read more Ever since my Lia was a few hours old, I've trusted Dr. Collins for everything. He was recommended by my OB, and I'm so glad I listened to her. He came to visit Lia right after her birth at Tulane-Lakeside, and we've been taking her to his office for the well baby visits ever since. He, along with the other doctors on staff, is so patient, understanding, smart, and great with kids. When we first started visiting Dr. Collins, we lived in Metairie. Now that we're on the Westbank, there are probably hundreds of pediatricians located closer than Old Metairie... but oh well, I'll drive across the river in order to give my daughter the best. They have a uniquely decorated waiting room, complete with a toy room, books and toys in the exam rooms, plus giant mirrors adjacent to the exam tables, which are great for entertaining toddlers. The doctors will answer any questions, no matter how silly, without sounding condescending. The nurses are great at giving needles as quickly and painlessly as possible. Oh, and the sugar free lollipops at the end of the visit are a nice touch. While they don't accept credit cards at the office for payment, they do apparently have a PayPal account that you can pay online with. PayPal! I've only done it once, but that is super convenient - especially for internet junkies like myself.

Spending that much time gave us the opportunity to become intimately familiar with all of the neonatologists and NICU nurses. When we were asked who would be our child's pediatrician, we were clueless. We started inquiring with all of our son's doctors and nurses to see if they could make a recommendation. Although it was not totally politically correct to make recommendations, they were happy to let us know who they used as their pediatrician. Keith Collins was by far the overwhelming choice by all of the doctors and nurses I spoke with, and since these neonatologists and nurses had practically saved my son's life, we immediately chose him for our son's pediatrician. Within 2 minutes of our very first visit, we knew we had made an excellent choice. Dr. Collins was extremely personable and very down to Earth; and spent a great deal of time with us getting to know our son's already extensive medical history. Keith Collins is a "local boy" and was Valedictorian of De La Salle High School's class of 1987. He graduated from Boston University in biomedical engineering in 1991 and worked as a computer programmer for 5 years before returning to school and receiving his medical degree from LSU in 2000. After finishing his pediatric residency at LSU in 2003, he joined a group practice in Metairie; and in April 2005 he started Collins Pediatrics. Collins Pediatrics is located at 2017 Metairie Road and now has a second location in Lakeview near Robert E. Lee and West End Blvd (7211 Regent St. Suite B). He has a hand selected staff of four female pediatricians that have all been personally trained by him. Therefore, no matter which doctor you see, you can rest assured that they are all giving you the best of care, which is equal to the same care you would get from Dr. Collins himself. I can personally say that I have seen every doctor on his staff several times and speak from first hand experience. Dr. Collins wonderful pediatricians are Doctors Heather Porsche, Gabrielle Glasgow, Suzy Kingston and Lauren Hernandez. I will review these pediatricians in a separate review as there is simply not enough allowed space in one review. Doctor Collins is a father of 6 children and each of his pediatricians are mothers to their own kids. Therefore, they can relate to how we feel as parents. Every one of his physicians are local New Orleanians and have strong ties to the community. They are a young staff of talented doctors and will be here for a long time. Therefore, you don't have to worry about any of them retiring any time soon, and you can rest assured that your child will have the same group of pediatricians until he/she reaches adulthood. They are very patient in answering questions and explaining anything and everything that you may want to know regarding your child's medical care. The nurses are also in a class of their own and were also hand selected by Dr. Collins, which is just another testament to his great judge of character. They are very friendly and quickly gained our son's trust. They give shots and/or vaccinations so quickly that our little one barely knew what happened before it was all over, he had a band aid on the injection site and was handed a lollipop for being so "brave". The exam rooms (7 or so on Metairie Rd) and the entire office are impeccably clean as it the waiting room; which has enough toys and puzzles to keep your kid occupied until it is time to go to the back. I can't say enough good things about Keith Collins or Collins Pediatrics, but we are blessed to have him and his team as our pediatricians. If your child is already a patient, you know what I'm talking about. However, if you are looking for a pediatrician, look no further, as you cannot do any better. On a separate and side note, please keep Dr. Collins in your prayers as he is facing a significant medical challenge of his own, and his story can be followed on Caringbridge.org, which is regularly updated by his incredible wife Jennifer. Just remember that every one of his pediatricians was personally trained by him, so Collins Pediatrics will continue to give your child the same excellent care that they've always been given. I believe in the power of prayer and look forward to Dr. Collins' return to regular practice. In the meantime, I will "KEEP CALM" and pray that they "CURE KEITH".

Both of my children have been seen by Dr. Solis, one of the many fine pediatricians at this office,…read moresince birth. They have 2 offices; this one and another one just off the Causeway exit on I-10 in Metairie. They have super convenient Saturday hours and a great after-hours network of Dr.s to help you with any late-night potential emergencies. I used this service once and got a quick call back with some great advice. It's an extremely rare occasion when I have to wait more than 10 minutes in the waiting room. I prefer the Napoleon Ave. office because the waiting room is MUCH bigger and the toys are more accessible to the little ones. The staff is amazing as well. At the front desk they have always been happy (seriously, they seem genuinely happy!) to be helping me with billing/insurance/other not-so-fun stuff. The nurses and doctors seem to absolutely adore children and have been so loving and understanding when my kids flop around on the examining table like flounders. I often need to bring both kids at the same time even though only 1 needs a check-up but Dr. Solis always asks me about the well-being of the other child. He does a quick and appropriate inspection of the other kid to address my concerns right then and there. Even in a big city you feel like you have a small town doctor. One thing I'm not a fan of is making an appointment. Because they deal with such a high volume of kids you need to make sure that you set aside at least 10 minutes for a phone call so that you can get in the phone queue. My fiance was also informed that they don't make the schedule more than a month in advance so, if you want to set up a follow-up appointment while you're actually at the office to avoid the long phone call you may not be able to do so.

As parents considering pediatric care, I want to share our recent experience at Pediatric Clinic…read moreWestbank to help others make informed decisions. We genuinely like, respect, and appreciate doctor Dargan, who is highly capable and caring. However, the poorly run operations of the office and patient privacy concerns have made it a deal breaker for us, and we will be seeking pediatric care elsewhere. During our latest visit, scheduling an appointment took 23 minutes on the phone, with 20 minutes spent on hold. I was asked to explain the details of my child's reason for the visit during this call. When we arrived 5 minutes early for our scheduled appointment and checked in, we waited 15 minutes before the front desk staff asked the same question through a window, despite other parents and patients being present in the waiting room. I explained again. Later, during the height and weight check, we were asked the same question yet again in an open area where others could hear, which made me uneasy due to the clear privacy violation. After being taken to an exam room, my child and I waited 55 minutes past our appointment time--totaling one hour--without seeing the doctor. Frustrated, I requested a refund of my copay and we left without receiving care. I understand that occasional delays can happen in medical settings, but this is not the first time we've encountered outrageous wait times here. This level of inefficiency, combined with the repeated public disclosure of my child's medical concerns, is unacceptable. While the doctor is excellent, the office's operational standards have let us down repeatedly, and we can no longer continue as patients. I hope the office addresses these issues to better serve families in the future.

You'll always hear that the parents in the waiting room who bring their newborns and children here were once patients themselves. Everyone will just wait because they don't want to go to anyone else. Take it for what you want but when worse comes to worst, Dr Dargan has always gone above and beyond the call of duty for my children. She's called me herself with lab results. She's responded after hours. She's accommodated my working schedule. They're open very very late into the evening and they close when they finish seeing patients. The staff is super busy and their phones are nonstop. Their waiting room is always clustered. But call them when you need something and you'll always get a response!! You'll always get the care you need and more! You just must ask yourself, "Is your child's health worth the wait?"
