This is a beautiful garden wonderland out far Northeast of Long Island. All the plants are outside in a part of a forest clearing next to a pond-like part of the Peconic River. This place is so serene and lovely. You feel like you're in someones huge backyard. Opened since 1986, it's a garden paradise on 14 scenic acres with water views. There is 8 greenhouses containing a huge variety of items for your garden, different plants including L.I. natives, flowers for cutting, gourmet and heirloom vegetable varieties,unusual trees and shrubs, herbs and hedges, etc. To get here, you drive down a dirt road which leads to what feels more like a botanical garden, than a garden store. They had a lot of interesting plants I've never seen before. Quite a large variety to choose from in a huge outdoor natural space. Quaint wood sheds and natural wood chairs decorate the area. There are beautiful gazebos with chairs inside to relax and just take nature in. Their huge 2 story barn contains planters,raw honey, organic dried herbs for cooking, hand-crafted organic spice blends, flower and vegetable seeds, garden tools, and antique decor. A beautiful place to rent for a wedding. photo shoots or any social function. Tip: Lol. Don't pack the car full of your friends, otherwise you won't have any room to take home any gorgeous plants that you will find here. I left a beautiful large plant behind, because there was no place to put it and my friend refused to ride in the trunk. Prices were reasonable. Final note: This place is worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood. Definitely check this place out if you are into gardening and plants. This place is great! I Brought my dog so it was nice to just walk and relax. I love the native plants area and it's so nice to be near the river. One suggestion - clear the plants near the water so people can get real close to look out. One person was sitting relaxing in a hammock. Lots of benches and chairs. Why is this place so perfect?! It's a beautiful, serene getaway. I read that picnicking was welcome, so we brought some sandwiches. I did not know there would be so many tables, chairs, benches, hammocks, and shaded areas. It is like sitting in someone's huge beautiful garden. My twin toddlers had a wonderful time running around and smelling the jasmine. I couldn't have asked for a better day. Everyone here is lovely. You can wander around aimlessly for hours here and discover thousands of things you'd want or want to do. Have a gardening project you need help with? They'll help. Need plants that just cover the ground for your front yard? They have a slice of land just dedicated to that. A little late on growing your tomatoes? Don't worry, they have them at all varying sizes. They even have a whole barn house that stores a ton of vintage decorative items that you can spend a decent amount of time in. So much stuff, it spills outward into the front. How cool. I wish I took photos of the rest of the land but all the reviewers captured it best. My photos just shows all the cool stuff I liked. For me, I love going to places like this to be inspired and to wander. Get lost in it. No high pressure tactics here, they'll leave you alone to roam around. I end up learning so much about nature that it becomes an overall relaxing experience. They even have an area where you can sit out and enjoy their events. And their greenhouses are beautiful. So well-stocked with every inch being utilized thoughtfully. It's also sooooo nice that you can bring your dog. I will especially go to an establishment if it's dog friendly. And my dog couldn't get enough of it. Sniffing around and laying out in the shade instead of staying home while I'm out. It seems so unfair which is why this place is such a gem to me. In more ways than one. I'm a fan. I have no complaints. It's a different experience each time and I always leave in such a better state of mind. read more

Very cute place to have a relaxing stop after having lunch in the area. You can hang out on a hammock or in one of their Adirondack chairs tucked away under the trees. Beautiful grounds with interesting finds. I came here for herb seasonings primarily. Organic seasonings sign me up.What I found was a beautiful garden with interesting furniture, plants, a lake, and the best views. It was such a zen magical place. My fiancé and I came on a early morning Friday. I'm sure this place is packed in the summer. But it was nice to get to enjoy the farm without crowds. I just made a whole chicken using one lemon and the California bbq seasoning and my fiancé and I loved it. A great seasoning can make wonders. Cannot wait to try the Mexican blend on tacos. Slowly but surely I'm going all organic. I was so excited to find unique blends of seasonings here. I will definitely come back. Would like to pick up more seasonings. read more

I went to a wedding here. The location is unbelievably beautiful. It had such a wide variety of indoor and outdoor spots to hang out in that we spent hours after the wedding just exploring. The Peconic herb farm is charming and magical. It's amazing that it's located so close to 495 and the Hamptons with no pretentiousness. I was surprised by the modesty, and taste and friendliness of the place. I grew up in East Hampton and have come to understand the difference between gardener/farmers and HGTV gardeners. The majestic trees that line the driveway instantaneously transport you to a better place, a foreign land, I was reminded of the Wardrobe in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Walking the grounds, without sneering looks from sales people adds to the fairytale likeness of the place, truly magical. It wouldn't surprise me if the owners favorite book is Alice in Wonderland. The atmosphere is one suspended time, a better time. America at its best.This is my all-time favorite place to buy plants etc.,. Clearly the people that own and run herb farm love what they do, more importantly, know what they're doing. You will find an extremely welcoming environment, with chairs, tables, hammocks and no pretense like you will find in the Hamptons. The pond is beautiful, tremendous in size and wildness. read more

I wish I knew about this place sooner. There is nothing that I don't like about it. If you are into gardening, you need to go. There are lots of different greenhouses and buildings to check out. It is nice to walk around the grounds between the buildings, where chairs and tables are set up along the way for people to hang out. Cristina, the owner, is super helpful and insightful with design - but understands that this is your special day. shes super resourceful though. the landscape in the spring is lush and peaceful. this space is super well maintained but really is plant nursery so if your looking to have a picnic and refurbish your garden this is the sweetest spot. ive never really been to anything remotely close to this so it's definately worth checking out. read more

I love this place. Located on the headwaters of the peconic river, there is probably nowhere more tranquil. Their selection of plants are just remarkable- specializing in naturalistic landscape plants that are native to Long Island. Of course there are also tons of annuals and vegetables as well and a barn with farm themed knick knacks and decorative objects. I was recently looking for shade tolerant landscape plants and I received twenty helpful recommendations from one of the gardeners. I have never come across a plant store I love so much. Peconic River Herb Farm is truly in a class by itself. The quality of the plants is incredible: perennials, annuals, shrubs, trees, herbs, garden art, etc. It's all presented in such a quaint, cute way. The place is really very sweet and very charmingly landscaped. They take such great care of their plants and I especially love the way they present plants in different sizes and different prices. Even when you buy plants in a smaller size, they're so well taken care of that they quickly thrive with proper planting and care. The staff is incredibly sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable. I drive about 45-minutes each way every month or two to visit this great place and it's always well worth it. What a gem of a place! read more

This is a spectacular, scenic place nestled in the woods, surrounded by nature and beauty! My husband and I were on the way to the aquarium (only about 10 minutes away) and I suggested stopping by. The owner has a bad attitude; otherwise, I would absolutely give 5 stars! Let me explain, I have been a patron of the Peconic River Herb Farm for YEARS. We are avid gardeners with a strong commitment to native plants. My family loves the atmosphere, the selection, and the staff at PRHF! But, NOT the owner. The owner, "Kris", continues to be gruff, unwelcoming, and at times flat out rude. It's a shame because everyone else who works there is absolutely lovely! Hope she changes her ways so that families like mine don't one day stop coming because of how coarse she is. read more

SUCH lovely grounds, this is really a picnic destination -- or as I see by other Yelpers, even a wedding destination (if only I had known!). The hubs and I went to pick up some herbs, and were enchanted by the slow moving river, nodding daffodils, and charming old pergolas. I can't wait to see it in full bloom this summer. Fantastic place, we go about 4 or 5 times a year and take all of our friends to see it. You can spend the day- there is a great deli close by, get your food to go and enjoy your lunch in the garden, they have picnic tables and Adirondack chairs to just sit and enjoy the view. The nursery is great too you can get hard to find plants, trees I saw a maple on my last visit that is a must have, as soon as I find a place to put it....They are the only nursery on LI that sells Sheffield Mums or even know what they are. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Its a must -see place! read more

My wife and I visited here yesterday (4/25/15) for the first time, and it will not be the last, even though we live nearly an hour away, in mid-Nassau. The PRHF is beautiful, nicely organized, has helpful staff, surprisingly gentle prices, and is a relaxing place to visit. We purchased several items, but I think my wife has many more plans up her sleeve, all involving PRHF. She kept saying how she wants to bring my sister-in-law (who lives in Westchester) here, so they can spend an afternoon picking out plants -- trees, shrubs, herbs, flowers, etc. -- for home. Well worth the trip. (And visit a nearby North Fork winery while you're out there.) read more

On your way out to the wineries, make a stop here and take a stroll through their charming grounds. There are little places to discover like a greenhouse, gazebos, quiet paths, a pond, and of course their plants, trees, and herbs. The rustic barn is where you can find antique-y things for the home, or artisanal jams and spices. It's fun to look around and sometimes things are on sale.
