This place is awesome, and I really hope we can make our way back someday because the trails are…read morebeautiful to hike and we spent about an hour trying to find as many of the old animal medallions as we could, but I think some of them have been lost due to time, weather, or bad people stealing them. It seems to be maintained by volunteers only, so some of the paths are a little overgrown (watch out for thorn bushes), but we still had so much fun and it's honestly just very cool to walk through this old zoo from the 1920s - 1930s! While you're on your way out here, make sure to read the history of why the zoo closed down (mystery!) and take a picture of the map at the entrance to help you on your mission to find the various animal medallions. I hope you have better luck than we did, but maybe we'll be able to come back and find more! There are bathrooms, a playground, and a decent amount of parking. You can also get a nice view of the dam and the lake while you're here, just make sure not to cross the boundary into private property, according to some tips I read online they're kind of sensitive about it but we didn't experience any issues on our visit!

This was not as cool as we had hoped - especially based on the hype we had heard. The trail itself is paved in some areas and rocky in others. We tried to take the loop, but took a wrong turn somewhere. The nearby park and dam were interesting.

I'm going to agree with Annie N. and say calling it a hike is a stretch, but calling it a walk…read morewould be 100% accurate. It is a multi-use sidewalk, so you do have to watch for bikes, and hope they are watching for you. There are several things to see a long the way, most notably a skate park ( https://www.granbury.org/749/Granbury-Skate-Park ), a Frisbee golf course ( https://www.granbury.org/746/Disc-Golf-Course ), a dog park ( https://www.yelp.com/biz/granbury-bark-park-granbury ), a play area for children, and a memorial for Granbury's military and first responders ( https://www.granbury.org/931/Memorial-Lane-Jim-Burks-Firefighters-Mem ). It's not very long "hike", but does make for a nice walk. Especially if you just had a big meal on the square. The water features in Shanley Park ( https://www.granbury.org/740/Shanley-Park ) are especially nice. Bottom line: If you've got some "time", do check it out. PS. Next time I do, I'll add to the pictures. Had no idea there was a Yelp! page.

This walking and bike trail is no different because you can easily take a stroll and see the lake or turn this into a very serious exercise trail to burn up the miles both on foot or bike. I walked the majority of this and was shocked at how long these trails actually are and how nice and well-maintained they are.

They have in-window AC and heating units (which came in handy for the cold snap we received this weekend), a bathroom that included showers, toilets, mirror, and sinks for you to get ready in the morning, and bunk beds with mattresses that actually were quite comfortable. Overall, the cabin facilities were good. We also used a couple of the classrooms that were a bit more run-down that I would have preferred and the in-window heating seemed to be a hit or a miss. The tables could use a refresher and the windows could use an update. The restroom facilities that we used while outside of the cabin were less than stellar. It was neat that there was a washer/dryer on site in the restroom, but the bathroom doors were falling off the hinges and the toilets flushed when they felt like it. The bathroom could use a refresher alongside the classrooms. The grounds were lovely. There were several picnic table areas for us to hang out under trees and enjoy the great outdoors. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here and the facilities were quite well done... They could use a refresher in some of the common areas.

I don't know that I would want to be there during the afternoon in the summertime, as the trees are not large shade trees, but during spring time, you cannot beat the bluebonnets. The staff is wonderful, very helpful, and friendly. You should bring towels and bedding, the cabin is outstanding. It sleeps up to six people. Miles of trails I love their little obstacle course at the main ranch. Check it out!
