What a wonderful plantation estate to visit! There's plenty of parking and everyone we met there was super friendly. You begin your tour from the visitors center, where you pay admissions ($5.50 pp for the grounds & $16pp for the main house tour), watch a historical video on the plantation, and view the exhibits. Since we drove up from Panama City Beach, FL we only had time to tour the grounds, not the main house. We spend a couple hours touring the grounds and still didn't see everything. So much to see! The stables were really cool! We met a nice lady feeding the draft horses and she introduced us to all the horses and mules. She told us stories about them...you can tell the animals there are really cared for and loved. The front of the main house and gardens are gorgeous! There are fountains and bird baths throughout. We also enjoyed walking through the family cemetery...nicely manicured and very serene. The dog hospital, nurse's station, and log cabin schoolhouse were buildings we're not used to seeing on plantations. They were all so interesting. Overall we really enjoyed our time here. Would highly recommend!

As a wedding photographer, this timeless, classic, southern wedding venue is simply perfect. Between the oak trees, architecture, garden and lighting, you are sure to fall inlove!

Worth stopping by! Came with a friend on recent daytrip to Thomasville. We only did the self guided grounds tour. But there are paid guided tours and you can go inside the main house if you take that tour. I've toured much more impressive old houses/mansions in Rhode Island so I opted to not do this one. The staff is super friendly. He gave us a history lesson about the plantation and pointed out interesting spots for us to check out. We watched a short video at the visitor center then went on to explore on our own. It is a beautiful place to walk around and spend a couple of hours. Learning the history was quite interesting to me. You should check it out if you haven't been!

Unfortunately the houses were closed when we went, covid. But just walking around the grounds was so great. The main house is beautiful, the grounds are just so gorgeous. So well taken care of. We just walked around, took a bunch of pictures and enjoyed the day.

Here is what I got from our mature lady guide. "The first owner of Pebble Hill Plantation, Thomas Jefferson Johnson, built the first house on the property that became Pebble Hill Plantation in 1827. After about 40 years later, the plantation was sold to northerner, Howard Melville Hanna form Cleveland, Ohio. Then, five years later, passed on to his daughter, Kate Benedict Hanna Ireland. In 35 years, she expanded the acreage of the plantation and all the buildings that still stand. Two years after the devastating fire, Kate died, and her daughter, Pansy, who was a great animal lover and an inveterate collector, became the plantation owner and lived in a portion of the Main House till her death in 1978. Pansy numerous collections were all pointed out to her passion for the sporting life. She was an accomplished horsewoman and became one of the country's outstanding polo players and brought her horses to her mother's barn and made into stables. Then, Pebble Hill Plantation became a hunter plantation. Tomboy (so the guide said) Pansy was married in 1946 to a beautiful man, Parker Poe. They did not have any children. Pansy continued to invite many of mother's impressive guests, President Dwight Eisenhower and Mrs. Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter, the Duke & Duchess of Windsor were among other notable visitors (there are photos to prove them!) and artists friends." The lady guide blurredly mentioned but clearly Pansy and Parker were a gay couple and collected beautiful things and they were fantastic. Enjoyed very much of the many paintings, especially of hunting dogs. Each dogs were very expressive, facial and movements and the hunting felt real. Other I liked was the American Indian room, full of stone tools but there were nothing on the brochures to share with you but the rest I posted here, take a look at them! I don't know why they don't allow taking any pictures of the inside of this beautifully well-preserved house. Only you can see a part of them from the local Christmas issue magazines. It would be a good advertisement to this sleepy mansion comparing to the winter retreat mansion in south Florida, Villa Vizcaya. Although the Vizcaya was build about the same time but the architecturally and visually, the Vizcaya was impressive to me, vast usage of Italian marble to the floors to the bathrooms with a gold colored brass faucets and hinges through out the mansion, the wall to ceilings tiled blue-green pool that was connected to outside and the garden with the shell ornaments, and not surprised if there were gondolas, the Venetian port by the ocean were all exquisite. Regardless of other fantastic mansions, the Pebble Hill Plantation was worth visiting. It was educational to see how south was like back then. ______________________ Admission into Plantation: Adults $5.00 Children (2 - 12 yrs.) $2.00 Children (under 2 yrs.) Very beautiful home. The tour guides(Whitney & Laura) were extremely sweet and made sure to answer any questions we had.

Visited with my Museum Basics class & I loved every second of it. The home was beautiful & the people who gave us a guide(Whitney & Laura) were extremely sweet and made sure to answer any questions we had. As Plantation was in the name, I was a little hesitant but I was pleased to find out that slave plantations had a kind history after the Civil War. As I was with my class, I wasn't able to view the full property but I'll definitely be back for the Christmas exhibition and hopefully get the chance to explore more aspects of it.

This is a hidden gem that is opened to the public. I had a great time, beautiful place, and definitely worth a visit!

I called to verify the hours of operation and Ms. Wills was so very pleasant. In calling back to inform them that a group would be coming, we were informed that there is a scavenger hunt available for the kids - which they loved! Before we started the self-guided tour, there was a video to explain how Mr. Hadley's passion came to life via the museum. Then we were told of the various sections, with some history given on a few of the exhibits. There are loads of paraphernalia packed in the space; so many sentimental items. Good news - the museum is moving to a larger space soon, which is great because everything will be more spread out to view. This tour would be wonderful for student/school related field trips (small groups). Kudos to Mr. Hadley and his staff for sharing this history and keeping us reminded. If we don't know the history, however "ugly" it may be, we will certainly repeat it - horrors and all. Of note, only $5 entrance fee for adults, $3 for kids (discount applied if there is a group).

I really enjoyed this museum and I have to start off by saying it definitely deserves five stars …read more The reason I cannot give it five stars is because it was so uncomfortably warm inside that we reached a point where we just had to get out of there. It's a shame because there is so much to see here, but we probably missed out on at least an 1/8 of the museum because we were sweating and felt so icky we just needed to get back out into the fresh air. This was in winter mind you, so saying that it was just too hot outside is no excuse. It was only around 68 degrees at the hottest point of the day we visited and we came in the morning so leaving the museum was literally a breath of fresh air. I cannot imagine how it gets in the summer. Although the temperature made us miss some of the museum, we made sure to get through all the cars before leaving. We spent around 2 hours here and could easily have stayed longer. This is not just a quick walk-through car museum. It's packed wall to wall, upstairs and downstairs, with cars, collectibles, Americana and lots of really unexpected items. I love rare and classic vehicles so seeing a tucker 48 in person was pretty cool. That alone made my day. The Oldsmobile futuramic 88 was another favorite and the limo that had been converted into a train car was just wild in the best way and blew my mind. You definitely don't see cars like this everyday. It's not just cars here though, they had a golden rococo style piano that was to die for! It was absolutely stunning. There were a bunch of gorgeous ornate antique cash registers that I really liked, interesting vintage radios, firearms, law enforcement badges, sports memorabilia and historical stuff like old medical equipment. They had a whole section of model trains and if you're into Batman they have a small section of vehicles dedicated to that. The bathroom was small but tidy and the employees were were quiet and perfunctory. It's also dog friendly, which is lovely but our dog did seem nervous walking on some of the matting on some sections of the floor so just be aware. On its face, this really is a five-star museum but the heat and humidity inside were just unexpected, and it was especially bad upstairs. We were sweating and physically uncomfortable. We really wanted to finish looking at the museum but we just couldn't take it anymore. I really hope they address the climate issue; not just for guests but for the preservation of all the items inside as well. It's was still def worth the $20 per person and I recommend a visit, just dress in layers and maybe start upstairs first.

The IMAX staff was wonderful; very accommodating. It has been quite a number of years since I last visited the IMAX Theater to catch a show. I didn't remember how cramped the seating was :o), though the seats themselves are comfortable. Once seated, best to stay seated until the show is over; otherwise, it will be quite a task to get out, especially if one is seated in the middle of the row and the row is completely filled. All in all though, aside from the tiny inconvenience regarding the lack of space between seat rows, I think everyone pretty much enjoyed the show and the setting. Note, the documentary is on Youtube as well! I also want to give a "shout out" to Mission BBQ for providing a complimentary meal for those attending the documentary. The food was delicious; the meal consisted of: coleslaw, baked beans with brisket, mac and cheese, sausage, pulled pork, brisket, cornbread, buns - along with tea (sweet and non-sweet), lemonade, and water!
