I'm always on a walking trail because yeah running long distance has never been for me. I take my fanny pack for my phone n keys and off I go. They are kind of back in style, right? The trail is short but action packed, and located right against Lake Erie for a beautiful, more spacious (less crowded) beach view too, before or after the boardwalk walk!

There's a lot to do in this area so plan on going to Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge as well as Howard Marsh. Note, the only bathroom is a porta potty. The W.W. Knight Nature Preserve is a great example of what the Wood County Park District has to…read moreoffer. Located in Perrysburg, this 44-acre preserve features a mix of environments, with woods, prairies, a large pond, and the Nature Center, a modern mixed-use building. Three different trails are available. The short one circles the fishing pond, with plenty of benches for sitting and relaxing. The medium trail goes through the prairie, around the parking lots, and over the southern pedestrian bridge crossing the pond. The longer trail goes through the Wet Woods, often on boardwalk, giving you a good sense for what the Great Black Swamp was like back in the day. In total, the trails are just over 1.5 miles in length. The Nature Playscape was located near the start of the Wet Woods Trail, and gave my daughters a great place to explore nature and play in the woods without me having to worry about them getting lost. Parking was easy at the preserve, with a large paved lot on the southern end of the preserve. The restrooms were clean and modern, located inside the Nature Center.

Some longer trails have picnic benches and other seating areas along the way. I used to come here with my dog quite a bit. The staff that work here are friendly and even gave my pup doggy treats when they saw her. It's also fantastic here because they have doggy bags at different stations throughout the area to keep this place clean. You'll see birds and deers throughout the nature preserve. I've also seen a lot of people take their graduation pictures because of this place's natural beauty. Over the years, I've seen that this place has done a great job of being educational with a lot of interactive activities (information about snakes, nets for observing fish, etc.). Whenever I'm in the area, this is the one place I always need to visit. Pros: -Free to enter -Free parking -Different trails -Well-maintained -Good for dogs -Educational -Beautiful all seasons Cons: -Depending on the time of the year, the mosquitos can be fierce! Unfortunately the day we came here the park was closed and the gate was chained. UPDATE: we are back on December 28th 2024 and the Park is open!! And it is even better than I thought it was. There is ample room for your dogs to run and play as well as plenty of trees and a few spots where it's kind of like Forest. Poop bag dispensaries in trash cans are spaced all around as well as benches to sit on. The entryway is a nice concrete double-gated entry that has exits to both the big and small dog park. You can park right next to the dog park. And you can easily walk around the interior of the fence line although it is quite a distance

This is a 13 mile trail from Bowling Green to North Baltimore, commonly used by walkers/runners,…read morebikers, and skaters. There are multiple starting spots, many of which have free parking specifically for people using the trail. There are a few places you have to cross the road, but the traffic is pretty light in those areas. Some areas are shaded by trees while others lack that protection, so it can get pretty hot here. However, there are drinking fountains (including one for dogs!) and a porta-potty at some spots along the way. There are also plenty of benches if you ever need a break. The path itself is nice and even. The views aren't amazing, but they aren't bad by any means. The people all seem very friendly, and there are signs that tell people to always walk/run/bike/skate to the right except when passing, and everyone seems to follow this rule well. I see people of all ages come here, and it's a nice place to clear your head.
