Loved Dr. Graziani for years, but after my experience with Dr. Rau--and the lack of support--I…read morewon't be returning. Giving 1 star. The past two weeks have been incredibly painful. I wasn't able to see my regular GYN at first, so I saw two others--one who diagnosed me with a bladder prolapse and Dr. Rau, who I saw three times in two weeks. Eventually, I was able to be seen by Dr. Graziani (my regular), and I saw her twice in one week--so five visits in less than 10 days. Each visit with Dr. Rau felt like a dead end. I felt like I was talking to a wall. He dismissed my pain entirely, insisted the prolapse was "mild," and showed no concern for the fact that I could barely function. I left one appointment in tears. I'm currently out of work because of the pain. I'm in agony, and it felt like no one believed me. Do you know how belittling and isolating that feels? Dr. Rau never acknowledged my pain or made any real effort to help. When I brought up my CT Paid Leave paperwork, he brushed it off, saying it takes months to process. I've been on leave before--it doesn't. He said the paperwork is hard without a diagnosis... yet I had one: a prolapse. Even if pay was delayed, I'd get it eventually. Plus, how can I afford this kind of care without support? Shouldn't a doctor at least try?! Pathetic. Don't doctors realize that stress--especially financial stress--worsens pain? Being dismissed by your provider while worrying about income only adds to the suffering. I have hypermobility syndrome, which can amplify pain. He didn't consider it. I kept repeating how much pain I was in--three visits--and he just stared at me, occasionally bringing up unrelated things like my IUD and ovulation. He did not care. I said it felt like a hernia and mentioned that a nerve had been cut during prior surgery. He didn't palpate the area, didn't listen, didn't ask questions, didn't even consider imaging. Nothing. I asked for an ultrasound and was upset to find out it was transvaginal - useless for prolapses. Then why order it? Still in pain and stuck in bed, I did my own research. That's how I learned about pessaries. I brought it up to Dr. Graziani, who said it was a great idea. She asked me to bear down--something Dr. Rau and the other doctor never did. As soon as I did, she said, "Oh yeah, it's definitely coming out." The next day, I was fitted with a pessary--and the pain? Gone. I don't know what upsets me more: that Dr. Rau dismissed my symptoms or that I could've been out of pain a week earlier if someone had listened. No one even brought up the option. That's absurd. How dare Dr. Rau--and others--dismiss a patient like that. How many people are walking around in pain because a doctor decided their symptoms weren't "severe enough"? Based on what--just looking? He wouldn't even palpate the area I said felt herniated! He did not care. Dr. Rau is absolutely horrible. No one should have to go through what I experienced. On top of the pain, I was stressed about whether I'd get paid. Thankfully, my rheumatologist stepped in to handle the paperwork--something this office should've done without questioning the amount of pain I have been in. Why is it such a battle? How can they expect someone in this kind of pain to work? It's inexcusable. If you're in pain, please listen to your body. Don't give up. Advocate for yourself--and if a doctor won't take you seriously, find one who will. Healthcare is a business, shop elsewhere if you aren't happy. You deserve to be heard, believed, and helped. *UPDATE* I'm writing this 4 days later. When the pessary loses suction, the pain comes back and it's unbearable. Turns out, I need surgery, and it's scheduled for tomorrow. I DO NOT recommend Dr. Rau!

Then I call the next day to speak to the office manager and I'm told tht the person is in a meeting but also find out my perscription wasn't called in until 8pm. Great so far. I've…read morehad two sessions and am suitably impressed with this provider. The therapy/program is suited to my problem, so I'm going to focus on what I liked about the way the facility is run. 1) Not pertinent for me, but easy to get in to, parking is not a fiasco -- this actually is a major afterthought for most places as they try to put in-group offices together. Instead, PT not requiring a drop off and long walk or not having to navigate a bunch of corridors is a pretty big deal. 2) I've been early both times and this place isn't overbooked. Overbooking is an increasing problem among specialties and there is less and less regard for the patient's time. They're busy here, but it's not slammed or over-crowded. Very big plus. 3) You can miss the turn in here, and even though it's a busy road, it's in a location that you have several choices of directions to come with, it's only a 1-on-1 road with good sized breakdown lanes All of the patients seem to value their time there, and everyone that works there seems to be doing what they want to do. Physical Therapy and recovery are a very personalized experience - that appears to be the top priority at Top Hat. If your injury or problem has been particularly discouraging or draining, this is a really big deal an I recommend them highly.

They were always timely for appointments and it was great getting to know each midwife. The support staff was wonderful as well, helping with any billing or scheduling questions. While I had planned for a natural birth at the center, I ended up going to the hospital. The midwives were very supportive and even visited me everyday during my stay. I'm actually a bit sad that my care for this pregnancy is over, but I definitely know who I'll be turning to for the next one! I couldn't have chosen better providers.

Con's Sometimes appointments would be delayed due to lack of staff. Sue, an admin, was speaking and answering my questions as if she was my doctor and she is an administrator with no medical license. It was extremely inappropriate and what she said could've hurt my child's well being if I did not bring this to my midwife's attention. It took them over one year from my first appointment to process my first visit payment. Which I was told my insurance would roll over and cover - which it did not- I was happy to pay it but I wanted documentation of the rejection since it was over a year. Sue was hostile when I had asked for this and said "but you said you would pay". Asking for documentation shouldn't be a problem if the insurance denied it: she ended up sending me proof, after being extremely defensive, which I then paid promptly. Midwives: Overall liked them but note taking was wrong at times and they thought I had a breeched baby, and I had to confirm with Danbury hospital why notes at their facility differentiated at the midwives office. Con's of Midwife Laura is unprofessional and has a "one size fits all" mentality when it comes to pregnancy. If you do not fit textbook definitions she will argue with you about it. She was wrong with my diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes since I am thin, and textbook says it's only in obese people or pre-existing conditions. When I spoke to Cathy about my issues here, with Laura and Sue - she had mentioned twice I should go elsewhere if I do not follow their policy which is to be open to working with all their midwives when they are "on call". She said when booking in office appointments I can book which ever midwife I liked. I had expressed what happened with Laura and Sue which is why she said this. I had spoke to Cathy about how her expressing this twice made me feel uncomfortable being in her care. Since I was following their rules. I mentioned I would be open to Laura if she was on call, but she was not a good fit for my pregnancy due to her one size fits all mentality and mannerisms. When it came to my birth I felt misguided, especially as a first time mom. No one went over the contraction process with me, and the labor stages latent and active. I had called several times, for days when I was in labor and was told to come in when it was closer to two minute contractions. Birth experience I was seen at 10:30PM, after driving an hour. Cathy was alone, the house and facility was dark and she told me since I was 4cm dilated I had two options- go to the hospital- she will do the paper work for me or go home. I was in shock and quiet when she said this. In this moment I was processing how we were alone here, no nurses to help, and she came to send me away anyway. The facility was dark, it was just her, my partner and I. She then filled the silence by saying to me "this is not a competition". In that moment I told her I am going to the hospital. I never went back to this office after that. I did not do a follow up either. Cathy was ok sending me back home, where I could have given birth on the road in an hour long drive, where as Danbury Hospital took me right away and helped me. If I had booked Danbury hospital instead of this place, my birth would've gone smoother, and less energy wasted. I was extremely tired after waiting for days. This set me up for failure and a long delivery process. Looking back on this: This place only accepts people who have fast births under 6 hours or less. It's in their fine print too. They take credit for births that happen in the hospital. Most of their patients are transferred to the hospital. I would overhear their staff while waiting for my appointments about the transfers. This place should not be accepting clients with herniated discs, which I had disclosed to them. They set me up for failure when I needed an epidural and a hospital. They should have been honest with me about that instead of taking my money. I was not a candidate for a birthing center from the beginning.

They are very rude, have long wait times, I've had to wait 50 minutes just to get into my appointment late(this wasn't the first time this had happened). Not all just the black hair ponytail, who sits in the window closest to the wall, with big green eyes, she's very rude. I would recommend this place if it wasn't for the lady's at the front desk. I called in September to report it, and was given an appointment in May. Took time off of work, scheduled other things around it, NEVER COMPLAINED. Then two days before, after confirming it, they canceled because the doctor is doing a c-section. They can reschedule for September 2026. Come to find out the fact my period STOPPED didn't give anyone enough pause to mark the appointment as over an issue, it was coded as general, and of course I was wrong because that's what they have in their computer. They suggested other days with genuine conflicts, because I had been keeping my appointment day open. I was accused of being uncooperative, immediately suggested a date, and gee, it was booked. So my concern had been ignored, appointment cancelled with two days notice (because they're not working weekends and holidays for them to count), told I was being uncooperative for having other things going on in my own life, and then told maybe I could find a new doctor, so I guess 15+ years doesn't mean much to them.
