Very, very horrible experience with this paint company. It was absolutely stunning to my husband and I how the quality had (has) nosedived over a span of a few years. We hired this company years ago for some interior painting of our new condo and the employees who came in and painted were quite good. One in particular (a young woman) was particularly expert, very careful, meticulous, and neat and tidy. Several years later (last year) we hired this company again to do an extensive interior paint project and...suffice to say we were in a state of shock at just how poor the work product was. Clearly the owner provided scant if any oversight and those brought in to paint clearly had zero acumen. Sloppy does not begin to describe the work. Soon I plan to provide many photos to include in this negative review so all can see precisely what we were left with after this company was entrusted to paint our condo's interior. The owner - subsequent to receiving calls and letters from us which included many, many photos depicting the plain truth as to just how poor the work was - could not have cared less and in fact actually shamelessly stated to us "the work meets industry standards". This is a paint outfit which for years has held itself in such high esteem that it has consistently charged far more than many other other local paint contractors. When first hired the company years ago we asked the owner why they were priced higher than other painters and were told by this man (the owner) the higher pricing was commensurate with the higher quality work product. Well, we can vouch for the fact that this may well have been the case several years ago but - but at least as of last year we have seen no evidence whatsoever that this company successfully maintained such elevated standards which would at all warrant its pricing. We have had to have the bulk of painting enacted on our condo by Pearl Painters repainted by another local paint contractor (after spending a small fortune, mind you, for the horrendous paint job Pearl Painters left behind at our condo). The ceiling painting in our kitchen and in our Family Room was particularly bad - and we found out recently from our fire sprinkler inspectors that Pearl Painters painted directly onto/through the condo unit's multiple fire sprinkler heads and their respective protective metal "cages". Because of this unthinking, inexpert approach to painting our condo's sprinkler system, after a post-painting inspection, does not pass code and we are having to replace all sprinkler heads and their respective protective cages (to the tune of approx. $1500). Who on earth would ever allow such poor quality painters back into their home?! The owner just did not want to hear one word about how bad the work was (even after receiving photo after photo of proof) which astounded us - considering that this same owner - himself a painter - used to be such an exacting and careful painter and he took such pride in those he used to hire - telling us (those many years ago) he would only hire those he knew were capable of painting commensurate to his own capability and high standards. What a difference a few years can make. What an awful shame... One star -- only because you have to assign a star (between one and five). We would not actually assign a star but would have entered zero or "negative". read more

Pearl Painters (and their associated Academy of Artisan Finishes) were incredibly helpful. No only are they highly knowledgeable on painting projects, but they were able to guide me in the right direction for my interior painting project. I had searched throughout the Portland metro area to find someone who could do a faux painting effect like we wanted on our dining room ceiling. Pearl Painters not only were helpful in their bid for the project, but they offered to teach me how to do it myself if I was interested in this option and wanted to save on some of the cost. Through their Academy of Artisan Finishes, I was able to learn some techniques for getting my desired faux effect. The training academy was great. My wife and I both took the class and were able to paint the ceiling ourselves. We had them come out while we painted for about an hour or so for consulting purposes to make sure we were doing it right, and I am very happy with how helpful they were, how respectful they were and how much time they put into understanding what we wanted and presenting options for getting us there. Their advice and assistance was also tremendous. And the ceiling looks amazing!!! I'm grateful that they recommended I take the class since I now feel motivated to try a similar project in other parts of the house. Now that I know the art of using a sponge, cheesecloth, chip brushes (and how to mix the paint with glacis), I think I will indeed try this out in other parts of the hosue. And the great thing is that I know I can call them to come and watch me if I'm nervous about anything at all. I would definitely recommend Pearl Painters and their Academy of Artisan Finishes to anybody considering a painting project. We are so happy to have found Pearl Painters, they are the best painters in Portland Oregon. We hired them to paint the main living areas of our interior, which included walls, ceilings, trim, and doors. We were impressed immediately with Brian's professionalism and enthusiasm about his company and the work they do. From the first appointment we could tell that he knew what he was doing. He provided a firm price and a detailed contract. Although my husband was ready to hire Brian at the end of the first meeting, I wanted to check references and get a couple of other quotes, which Brian encouraged us to-do. Because we had a bad experience with another painter in the past I asked for references from the last 3 projects that Brian had completed as well as 3 from a couple of years ago. Our project was challenging because of two story walls and a stair case to work around... They handled it with ease! After seven years in my new home, I wanted to make paint changes. The open vault ceilings must have been a challenge because I interviewed several companies, none of which would take on my project. When I called Pearl Painters, Brian came out listened, took a video, and helped me with my vision His professional opinion put my mind at ease as he guided me towards the colors and shades that would compliment my home, furniture and lighting. Pearl Painters were amazing. Our project was rather complex with an entire downstairs including the ceiling to be painted. We also had the kitchen cabinetry painted as well as the stair risers which requires quite a bit of sanding. They used a machine that sucked up the dust so as to keep the project clean and ready to paint. Brian was very patient with our complex project that went through a few changes during the process. The crew was punctual and paid attention to details that needed addressing. They were careful to keep our new floors covered and did a great job cleaning up afterward. Our costs were reasonable and fair. i highly recommend them and will hire again when we decide to have some of the other rooms and exterior painted. I really appreciate a company that pays attention to details and asks questions to make sure we are all on the same page. We've had Pearl Painters do two major jobs for us: complete painting of the exterior of our house, and our kitchen cabinets. Anyone can throw on a coat of paint. However, it is the prep work that makes the difference between an average and an excellent job. The prep work on the exterior paint job was thorough and complete: they pressure washed, scraped, and caulked everywhere. Two years later the paint job still looks great. Pearl painters have painted the interior and exterior of my house. In one word, outstanding! They are professional and extremely neat. They created beautiful faux finishes using Venetian plaster, layers of paint polished with bee's wax. All of the interior work was done in a household of 4 cats, 2 dogs and a puppy.
