Pearl Jam is a public art display by Nicole Nomsa Moyo. It is on display in the Paradise Court in the Miami Design District.
Nicole Nomsa Moyo was born in Zimbabwe and raised in South Africa. She is now based in Toronto and her cultural history influences her art. Moyo received the annual 2024 Annual Design Commission presented by the Miami Design District and the Design Miami Curatorial Lab.
The Pearl Jam art piece is made up of multiple large beads, a deconstructed necklace, a bracelet, and earrings printed with geometric shapes and vibrant colors inspired by her African culture. For this art piece Moyo collaborated with indigenous Ndebele women to handcraft over 1,000 earrings using locally sourced materials. Some of the oversized beads have been turned into seating in the plaza making the piece interactive. Pearl Jam will be on display through March 31, 2025. read more
