Did I mention the church shuttles you to the front entrance and give you free complimentary bottles of water for your drive home. The entrance fee is now $3.00 and you can ride the rides all day for $25.00. Which really isn't bad for all the teenagers and adults if your into rides ??? As you walk around you will have plenty of food choices such as lobster, shrimp, ribs, Carolina BBQ, Maryland Crab cakes, jerk chicken, gyros, Philly subs, turkey legs, sausages, burgers, hot dogs, Chick-fill-a, wraps, fries, homemade chips, funnel cakes, fried (twinkies,Oreos, snickers), shakes, lemonade, ice cream, Italian ice cream, root beer, beer and lots of beer !!! With two stages available for your music entertainment and plenty of vendors set up in tents and outside with all kinds of souvenirs but also items for your home, personal use and gifts so you just can't go wrong. You must take the small tour in the U.S Army 18 Wheeler and pick up the free Army gifts. Also available is corn hole, beer pong, bubble soccer, and a bronco riding challenge where you can win $200.00. Oh and do take a pic with the LOVE sign !!! Since I hadn't been to a carnival in a while, I was surprised to see that the tickets were stored digitally on a card that they give to you. I actually loved the convenience of not having tickets all over the place lol. We rode about two rides which were a lot of fun. The ride operator simply scanned the card for our tickets and that was it! Gone are the days of having to count out the tickets for the rides lol. We then decided to grab something to eat. I remember carnival food being delicious and worth every penny but we ordered a cheese burger, cheesesteak, sausage and peppers and fries and the burger was extremely small, the cheesesteak was finished in 3 bites and the sausage was the size of a hot dog. The food was disappointing for how much we paid. The funnel cake and fried Oreos were great though. The best part of the carnival was definitely the delicious Turkey leg that we all enjoyed. Since my daughter isn't a big fan of fireworks, we decided to leave before they started but overall, it was a fun family outing. Side note: To avoid paying the $10 parking fee, we parked at a nearby school but we walked close to a mile to get to the carnival so definitely where comfortable shoes if you plan on taking that route next year. :)

I found this website listing the best neighborhood holiday light shows throughout Hampton Roads…read more The article is from last year, but most people do it every year. *Note: the article also covers all major cities in the country. https://www.redfin.com/blog/2014/12/the-best-neighborhoods-to-see-holiday-lights-in-2014.html#.VngNVBUrK00 Holt Family Lights (HFL) was definitely the best of the bunch I visited last night. What a sight to behold! My youngest son and I enjoyed all of the lights and the music that goes along with them. There are so many things to see--you really need to stop and watch for a while. *Please park on the side streets and walk into the court to see the show. *There is music playing while you're outside, synced with the lights. If you watch the show from your car, tune your radio to 98.3. *Cali's Concessions--While you're there, grab some popcorn, hot chocolate, or candy. The proceeds go to a charity of Cali's choice. I think the concession cart might start at 6 pm. We were there around 5:30 and no one was there yet. *Follow them on Facebook to see the current times. (https://m.facebook.com/pages/Holt-Family-Lights/163705990330762) There are several holiday light shows throughout this area, and those are lovely to drive through (and expensive). But there is something special about visiting these neighborhood light shows. If you live in Hampton Roads, definitely check out HFL. Otherwise, go check out that website I posted and see what light shows are around you!

They have buckets for you to grab, or you can bring your own. You get charged per pound that you pick and pay when you're done! They had so many strawberries ready to pick, I had so much fun doing this with my friends kids! I was already planning on making a homemade strawberry shortcake when I got home. They have a cute little coffee truck which I obviously had to stop by. If you have a strawberry latte during strawberry season - you can count on me to grab one! It was so good, and not too sweet or tart from the strawberry! I also had to grab their strawberry donuts from the farm stand. Which, needless to say ... they did not make it home with me. We scarfed those down! Incredible. I loved the "petting zoo" area. You can feed the goats, sit in the rabbit pen and give them some pets, and play with the piglets! Such a cute add on to this experience; and the petting zoo was no charge! They also have a ton of toys and bounce houses for the kiddos. If you're looking for a fun strawberry picking experience, give them a try!

I can say it's a long-running convention that consistently offers a family-friendly, inclusive space to celebrate anime, gaming, and fandom culture. Whether you're a die-hard anime fan, a casual gamer, or just curious about the community, NekoCon delivers a fantastic weekend experience. The main venue, the Hampton Roads Convention Center, completely transforms for the event, and the Embassy Suites next door adds to the fun with themed experiences like the Maid Café. The con features panels, gaming tournaments, cosplay contests, and more -- with programming that runs nearly nonstop from morning to the early hours (around 10 a.m. to 4 a.m.!). One of my favorite parts is the evening dances/raves, where local DJs spin everything from unique remixes to nostalgic throwbacks that make the dance floor come alive. The only drawback is the lack of food and drink options during the late-night parties. The Vendor Hall and Artists Alley are packed with creativity -- from handmade crafts and original artwork to rare merch and interactive booths. This year featured lots of Japanese-inspired fashion (I even scored a great pair of platform sneakers!) and standout vendors like Surreal Makeup, which is absolutely worth checking out on social media. As with most conventions, food and drinks inside can be a bit pricey, so I recommend bringing a snack or water bottle. One area for improvement would be adding more accessible water stations, but overall, I've noticed the food options and seating areas have improved each year -- a great sign that NekoCon continues to evolve and grow.

The conference staff were in a great mood and very helpful. They explained that this this conference included people interested in Comicon, and video games, cartoons, etc. It was impressive to see the costumes and watching skits outside the venue. The activities thst they included were meet and greets with celebrities, well known characters, make-up clinics, costuming workshops and participants were very helpful to us and each other. The hotels and restaurants in the area were very welcoming to the crowds. Visitors came from California, Texas, Florida, etc. I wish that it had more parts of the venue open to visitors but I understand the need to accommodate paying participants first. I will visit next year!

The only bummer was, which I dont think we were expecting, the temperatures were reaching 90's degrees and there were no shady areas to rest and cool down. This isnt much of the festival's fault, it's mother nature. *smiles* Lots of activities stations, lots of food vendors...lots to do. They had a petting zoo, arts & craft stations, playdoh station, play house stations, a kiddie area for the younger one like ball pits, tunnels etc. I felt like a kid all over again. I made sure that my daughter was the one doing all of the activities, even though I was itching to do some myself....Heck, I got chocolate milk brom Oberweis...delicious! There is no room for cranky kids to just chill out because there's so much traffic. And if there are booths who aren't patient with kids then they probably shouldn't be there at a children's Festival for example there was a booth for for brain balance and she was just getting very aggravated with the kids who didn't want to do the whole cycle who did just want to do the trampoline. I'm sorry that my two-year-old doesn't want to do a whole brain activity she just wants to jump on the trampoline. Other than that the festival had great ideas for the kids to do like I said it was just too much and they should definitely do it for the whole weekend not just one day it would probably help with the overcrowding.
