By far the best haunt in Virginia. Their actors are on point and never break character. And the house itself is scary without actors.

I've been going to this place since 2016 and have been there over a dozen times since then. Their festive events throughout the year are quite fun and in my experience, generate shorter lines. The prices have risen over time and is a bit much in my opinion. They could sell tickets for $10 and $15 for extreme, and you would get just as much if not more business and still make a killing. Just saying. I have never done "Extreme" and never will. I am not only a proud "Irregular" but also a "Repeat offender" as the owner would say. The waits are usually very long, it can range from anywhere between 20 minutes to over 2 hours. It really helps to get there early and get in line first. They seem to take more time with you once you get inside if you are the opening act of the evening. The rooms are dark, which is really a shame since you're unable to see the decorations or themes of some of the areas, which makes them seem like a waste. Some rooms are very smelly. One year, there was a butcher shop area that stunk highly of ammonia. Some of the actors have REALLY bad breath and they get uncomfortably close. While you wait in line, you are intermittently greeted by various characters, one of them being "Bubbles the Clown".. if I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be her. Beware however, she does have a few.. "quirks" that may disturb or disgust certain visitors. (all I'll say is watch where you step!) The owner clearly enjoys his job and always remembers me when I stop by. Most things are the same or at least, very similar as you go through each year, but some stuff does change to keep it interesting. There are loud noises, messy substances, and electric shocks. A few years in a row, I had to crawl on my hands and knees through what appeared to be a giant intestine to get through one of the many obstacles. That was weird to say the least. There are rooms that include a lot of different fears and props. Everything from snakes to clowns to pitch darkness. Some special events through the year are themed around different holidays or a horror-centered gimmick. And I hate to say it, but the most annoying things to me are: 1. The other people in line. They can get very obnoxious. 2. The constant screaming. I don't like loud things, and I don't like people (or monsters for that matter) screaming in my ear. It is NOT scary, funny or anything remotely enjoyable. It causes real damage to those of us with hearing issues. It also is highly aggravating. 3. Pricing can be a bit much for what you get. 4. I'm not a fan of the saturation of pentagrams all over the place. It's just lame and unimaginative. There are merchandise stands outside with some neat items and lots of stuff to look at while you wait. Just be prepared for some startling surprises if you're spotted being off-guard. The actors seem to have a good time, and if you're a good sport, you can have a good time along with them. It's always fun to join in on the spirit of things. (and besides, when else will you get the opportunity to hang out with some monsters and let loose for awhile?) Anything that feels like a real-life horror movie (with the controlled fear element of course) is a must-do for the Halloween season or any other time during the year that you might need a good, safe scare to keep you on your toes! Because nothing breaks up the monotony of a typical, mundane evening in March, May, or July than a good-natured threat from an Axe-wielding Clown or a playful proposition from a demon-possessed girl covered in blood. Ya know, just another Saturday for some of us! Final word: it's fun and most of the time, you never know what you're gonna walk into when you pass through each door or curtain. So if you decide to visit, proceed with caution, and remember to have fun and enjoy the madness! read more

One of the best haunted attractions. Only $15 cash and $20 cc at the door, it's probably one of the cheapest too. Highly recommend. Be aware, they get in your face and some doors have a slight electrical shock. You'll have to be limber enough to go through tight, dark places, bend down a little and use your hands to scale the walls to get through and find doors. The extreme isn't me, but by the looks of it you could be tied up and crawling. Go with at a group of four bc that's how you'll be entering and have a spooky time! read more

Yalllllllllll, best haunted house hands down! Went October 4th, the cast is "friendly", they are good at getting you nervous before hand haha! Took us a good amount of time to go through as well. I've gone here every year for the past three years and have never been disappointed! Fun haunted "house" located in a strip mall off Military Hwy. You go through a series of rooms and corridors dressed in all manners of frightening and scary scenarios. The actors are enthusiastic and appear to have a lot of fun. I love going with friends who share in my love for the scare. Half the time we are laughing at just how scared we all are. This year, expect to crawl though tight spaces... fair warning if you may get a little claustrophobic! I ended up buying passes to their next three events for Christmas, Valentines and Easter! All three events for $20! Not a bad deal!! Also not for those that may have a tiny fear of clowns ... one typically greets you at the door! read more

Just going to post these right here. Went to Frightmare last night. DIDNT pay for the extreme or full contact option. Went with my friend. Everything was going well in Frightmare until we get to this room where there is doors with fridges as the doors and alarms that go off if you go into the wrong one. We eventually got out of the room and was led through a small hallway to a white door with no knob. I proceeded to open the door with my Foot at the bottom of the door with constant pressure. I was met with the door not budging at all. My friend then yelled "Kick the door". I however did not kick the door but applied more even pressure. The door swung open and I was hit directly, very forcefully square in my stomach with a plastic bat by a Frightmare employee who was very tall and dressed in blue with a mask of sorts,. When he hit me in the stomach he said "don't kick the door". I replied back saying "I didn't kick the door and that really fucking hurt". He got in my face again and said "don't kick doors. As we were trying to leave that room/area, he kept touching my friends behind and hitting it with the bat. She repeatedly told the man to stop touching her, more then once and very loudly. As we were about to exit the haunted house, I came nose to nose with another employee dressed like a hobo clown who "bopped" me on the nose with his nose. Just to remind you again, we DID not pay for full contact or extreme anything so no actors/employees should be touching us. We let the old gentlemen with white hair and facial hair know. All he said was "we will look into it". Not receiving a statisfactpry answer, we left and I sent the messages to the Frightmare FB account. I've been to Howl o scream, Hunt Club, and the Haunted Temple and this rates pretty decent. Lots of the scare factor for me is that it's super dark so you can't really see where you're going, it's small, tight quarters and you have to find your way around through different doors. it's not a straight forward path. I think also another determining factor of how much fun you have is by how easily scared do the people you go with get. They only allow groups of 4 in at a time, which makes sense because of the pathway you have to maneuver isn't big. My sister gets seriously freaked out and out of control. But I'm not going to lie. I screamed my ass off so much and expletives flew out my mouth like doves flying for freedom. At one point I screamed so loud I felt like my heart was going to burst out my chest. It was a good time, but I think we waited about a 30 minute or more wait. Definitely buy a Groupon if it's available. That's what we did, it's more economical. read more

Had an awesome time, the lot workers definitely made the experience for me. It made you think the haunted house started before you even got in the door. I only wish they used the abandoned units of the strip mall as well as their own because it was quite short by itself. read more

We came here on a Saturday evening and let me tell you, we weren't expecting to see a long line around the building. Friends and I bought a 4 pack of tickets for only $44 and I'm glad we did. When we got there, the scary guy with the skirt on told us from our point it would have been 3 hours. We decided to stick through it and although the wait was a bit long, it was only a little after 1.5 hours. I'm glad we did because it was definitely spooky. It's not your usual haunted house because it's very narrow and there's times you can't see anything. I had a great time, so much that I lost an earring. read more

They actively advertise that if you're in line by 10:30 you get in. Saw this on their promotional videos on Facebook, and all over the building as you walk up. Well, on opening night they turned us away at 10:25. I work weekends and this was my only Friday off this fall. Not a good first impression, especially after driving a half hour for "the best in VA". Seems very unprofessional to me. I don't think I'll chance it again. read more

Definitely one of the scariest haunted houses I've been too! My party was in and out in under an Hour so the wait wasn't to bad. I do think though that 15 dollars is a little much and 10 would be more reasonable. I was genuinely scared at the beginning of the maze, the blackout affect and having to open your own door into the next room was a key factor. the ending was kind of a let down though. There was no big scare to send me home with but my fiancé enjoyed the whole thing. read more

I brought my tickets beforehand, upon arrival, a man handling the line yelled at my friends and I saying " sold out" to which we responded "we already have tickets" and he simply said " we are not letting anybody else in". I'm from the north and our haunts are very scary, so I had high hopes. After being disappointed at hunt club farm, I decided to give frightmare a try.... they really hype it up for what it is. When it was over I said "that's it..?" It's just dark hallways with tacky Halloween decorations. There weren't many actors and they didn't hide and pop out at you... just stared at you... also we were getting frustrated because we didn't know where to go once inside.. I'm not sure if that was their angle to "scare" you like you couldn't get out, but if Inconvenience and overall confusion over tacky decorations are scary to you then, spend the $40. read more

I'd give this place a 2.75 maybe a a 3 because after going to spooky acres it just didn't measure up. Waited in like for an hour to get in. Since they were closing soon we got rushed and weren't really advised to go by ourselves because it would slow down the line. Unfortunately the three people in front of us had a girl who over reacted to all of it like a five year old and the group of three behind us had a guy who was so miserable and complaining that I wanted headphones. We chose to go with the group in front of us and luckily they had an extra Groupon ticket so we got one ticket for free (win). It was pretty short. The actors weren't allowed to touch you and you can't touch the actors. Definitely not as scary. They just use a lot of that noise cracking to startle you which I've experienced in a lot of other haunted houses and in my opinion it's a cheap way to scare. But it was still fun. Alright so I just got back from this and i haven't been that scared in awhile. I was with my mom, uncle, and sister and we were first in line. They let us 4 in and closed the door behind us and I instantly realized that I was screwed. My family made me go in the back and and since they only allow 4 at a time I was all alone in that stupid terrifying building. GOOD GOD I was screaming like a little girl and I'm about to turn 17 and I was clinging on to my 13 year old sister. The little idiots that worked their would follow me through EVERY SINGLE CORRIDOR AND I WAS SCARED FOR MY LIFE. I WAS TERRIFIED BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY WORTH IT. IT'S SUPER FUN AND SCARY AND IDK I JUST WANNA DIE RIGHT NOW. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. *in a palpatine voice* DO IT. *in a Shia LaBeouf voice* JUST DO IT.
