Very sweet and loving. he just gets excited greeting people but calms within the first minute. The vet knew us for two years since we brought him as a puppy, and always acted surprised and annoyed by his energy upon welcoming. Making comments like "woah woah" and then heard them talk to a vet tech behind the door while we were in the room, and said "better be ready, if you're not woken up yet, he'll sure wake you up! Very crazy!" And that just upset me. We are going to a new vet now, and the vet is very accommodating to my dogs needs, welcoming him and being friendly while he warms up. Does not make me feel like a burden. Rivercove did the opposite every time. I was very disappointed.

I took in my two dogs for their annual appointment & I had to hold them on the table! No assistant in sight!!!! When the puppy needed shots, I was holding her head and baby talking to her and they reported that I had "threatened " the techs (which I would NEVER DO)! I was a constant user of this vet for almost 20 YEARS and they refused to speak to me about it and just FIRED my pets as patients. It was disgusting how I was treated. Shame on Dr English specifically!!!

My first and only (so far) experience with this 24/7 Emergency Veterinary Specialist was on Mon Dec…read more29, 2025. It was probably one of the most heartbreaking days in my 64 years. I brought my more than 13 year old male Beagle dog here because he was struggling to breathe the last 2 days. When I arrived about 11:15 AM there was no wait time, no one in the lobby which is one of the things that made this visit that made me feel, I can't really say good under the circumstances. The people at the front desk were probably the most kind and professional people I was glad to deal with when I was an emotional mess. I gave them a $200 deposit for the visit and they took my dog back to the vets to be seen as soon as I got there. I feared the worse and probably about 15 minutes later they called me back in a room to tell me they would have to put my dog "to sleep" (God knows I hated those words). But I have to give the workers and the professional vets I dealt with were probably God sent people to help me get through my situation. When I agreed he (my dog) should be cremated, the employees said they took up a collection in order to pay for it. When I got home after this heartbreaking experience I saw an email that said they refunded the $200 deposit so I called to verify. Me being a disabled USA Army veteran, I always struggle every month financially and it seems like I am out of money by the middle of every month but I do believe that with God's help I make it through each month. So it was a great burden lifted in such a heartbreaking time that I was charged nothing. I plan on saving to get another Beagle puppy dog from a breeder in the next several months. It amazes me how emotionally attached I had gotten to my Beagle over more than 13 years. I truly believe a dog can be a man's best friend and whether it is true or not it seems this dog gave me unconditional love that is difficult even in this wild world we live in the same unconditional love that is difficult to get from human beings. I would highly recommend to anyone and everyone this Emergency animal hospital that is open 24/7. I have the utmost respect for the workers there that went above and beyond with their kindness and professionalism. Good luck & Godspeed.

They helped us navigate every stage of his care with compassion and honesty. Even during the hardest times, we knew he was in the very best hands. We're forever grateful for the dedication and love they showed to Montego and to us. If you're looking for a veterinary team that truly cares, this is the place.

Some vets treat FIV like a death sentence and won't give these cats the time of day, but everyone at AC treats our little ones like beloved royalty. They take their time and answer all of our questions, and did a TON of research to share with us the best diet, supplements, and lifestyle changes to keep our cats healthy. We are not rich! Not by a long shot. We have small income, live in a small apartment, do not have money to toss away on unnecessary expenses. We've never felt that the vets at AC order gratuitous labs or x-rays or anything, and they always bring up the matter or cost very non-judgmentally in a way that would make us feel comfortable declining if we decided to do so. I've never felt pressured to do something I couldn't afford. We have never been pressured in the slightest to buy food or supplements them, they've always been completely fine with us buying from amazon or wherever I can get the best deal. Our cats are our family, truly. They have had rough lives before we adopted them and it's our honor, duty, and absolute pleasure to make sure they are happy and healthy for the rest of their lives. I would NEVER bring them to a vet where I felt that the cats or we as owners were being disrespected or where I felt they were getting sub-optimal care. Affectionately Cats has not only met but exceeded my expectations for two decades and I can't imagine ever going anywhere else.

Very common treatment that can be cured at home, however I wanted to be safe due to sensitivity. I went in to see Dr.Wagner. After 30 minutes of talking she FINALLY assed the hot spot and went over treatment. The estimated price was 322 dollars (I have a care plan so the visit itself is free) they attempted to charge me 50 dollars for Cephalexin, 112 dollars for apoquel and 60 dollars for a probiotic. I explained that I could get the Cephalexin for 11.87 at Osco pharmacy with a written prescription and I could get the allergy medication (apoquel) from chewy for under 70 dollars. I also explained that I have a probiotic I give my dog daily at home for far cheaper and would not like to pay for that service. Dr.Wagner told her staff to tell me that "she did not have time to hand write a prescription so I could either wait a day or two, or pay the fee in house." I was also charged 76 dollars to have a vet tech shave the area and apply a cream on the hot spot. Which I could have done myself and the medication they used is sold at EVERY pet supply store. I was discharged without any follow up instructions, care, or medications. I am not one to write a negative review. However this place will take advantage of you and your wallet if they can. I have 10 years of healthcare experience, 2 years of pharmacy experience and 18 years of being a pet owner. I have NEVER met a facility that is so willing to Nickel and dime you like VCA. I will be following up with the board with this matter as well to protect people from being taken advantage of financially. It's been 5 hours and I still have yet to receive a prescription for my dogs infection which is very negligent. DO NOT get a care plan from here if you are looking for a reliable vet who will put clients and their pets as a first priority. I am glad I did not overpay for the prescriptions I can get for under 10 dollars. I do wish I did not allow them to shave my dog's patch of skin for 75 dollars after waiting 2 hours in an office. But I guess you can't fight every battle. Please do yourself and find a vet that cares. Best, Angie and Bear.

I've been going here for my rats for a few months now, and they've always been kind and considerate no matter what's going on. They're also extremely knowledgeable about the care of specific animals under the small pets category, not just "pocket pets" as a general category. It's clear that they see many exotics regularly and don't treat all small pets like the same animal. They even offered nebulizing for my pet rat that had a URI, and seemed very familiar with treating this common issue in rats. Though no vet care is cheap, I always feel like I'm getting my money's worth here; I've seen multiple exotic vets at Essex (at least 4?) and they're all top notch, I feel comfortable with all of them. Essex Vet has also been able to get me in on short notice before, which while not expected, is always a nice bonus. They've also got a text line that can be used to check in post-op, ask questions, or schedule appointments which is incredibly helpful. I've had to get two of my pets put to sleep, and I'm glad that I was able to do it here. Everyone was extremely kind and considerate. The vet who had seen one of my boys previously (for the issue I put him to sleep for) even came in to validate my decision to let him go, which was really comforting and a huge relief to me. The staff at Essex Vet are very qualified and I'm happy to trust them with my pets' care. In addition to their knowledge, they're able to provide flexible appointment scheduling and a warm environment. I'd definitely recommend anyone, especially those with exotic pets, to go here for their pets' care.

I first went to their clinic two months ago when it became a hardship to take my dog to his last…read morevet due to transportation issues. I don't drive. My dog is a guide dog and I'm blind. He received an exam and all of his booster shots and when I asked for a prescription for his flea and tick and heart worm meds, the vet was resistant to allowing me to fill it at the pharmacy I had been doing business with before. She insisted I try a different med stating it would do the same thing, and be much cheaper at her pharmacy. I agree to try it and she gave me a free sample that he would try in December (this month). He hated it and this chewable medication was as hard as concrete. I called the office to request prescriptions for the meds he'd had been on, and was met with resistance because I was going to have them filled at Chewy's pharmacy. the difference between the vets pharmacy and Chewy was $125.00. when I spoke with Chewy, they told me that Essex Vet refuses to work with them as far as confirming prescriptions is concerned, and I would have to send in the prescriptions myself. Essex vet refused to send me the prescriptions stating that it was against corporate policy to do so, and if I wanted them I would have to pick them up in person. Did I mention that I'm blind? Sometimes it can take a week or longer to get rides. I did finally got them and sent it in by mail to Chewy. I meanwhile called Essex Vets corporate office, and the person who called me back assured me that there is no policy against sending prescriptions to customers. By the way they are owned by Blue River. The corporate person I spoke to asked if I minded if she spoke with the vet about my complaint and I said that would be fine, and maybe it would improve the level of service provided. I never heard back from either one of them. I got the prescriptions from Chewy without any problem, at a much better price, and in time to continue his meds without interruption. The only hitch was that Essex Vet only wrote it for six months, not the usual year that vets normally do. so I will have to pay for another vet visit from someone else in six months to get his meds prescribed again. I'm 76 years old, had dogs most of my life, and have never run into this kind of treatment from any of my dog's vets. I've since spoken to other vets who have assured me that they do business in a very different way and would be happy to have my dog as a patient. To describe what this vet did as petty and unprofessional is an understatement.
