Quality of care is terrible. Just a money making machine. Husband has to wait hours for assistance of any kind.

I have been a nurse since 2005, and Certified Case Manager for about 5 years. I've had the opportunities to work in a few Skill Nursing Facilities. I have never worked in one that is very clean, doesn't smell like a Nursing home and is ran by an awesome Director of Administrator. Thank you again Ellen.

Too many things went wrong for me to post. They didn't even get her meds until after 10 pm and she required insulin at 5:30. I asked for beside toilet and they said they couldn't provide anything until pt accessed her. They finally arrived at 9:30 pm. I ordered a recliner from a rental company and she sat in it for an hour or so. Pt was concerned about her edema and leaking legs and said they didn't treat that there. So she shouldn't have been admitted with these issues and should have remained in the hospital but they forced us to take her to rehab. They went to put her in the bed and there was only one cna not two and she " used the bed to do the work" by lowering the head low so she would slide down. She was begging not to have her head down like that. She had fluid in her lungs and she passed out. Where was unresponsive and they had to call ambulance to take her back to er. We thought we lost her. This incident set her way back from the prices she had made in the hospital before arriving there. She died one week later to the day There is not enough help at this place and unless your loved one is somewhat mobile then our going to be hard for them if they stay there.

The entireties of the staff - from the sales, to skilled nursing, to the dining room servers were welcoming, obliging, and happy (which is not always the case in senior facilities!) The residents we encountered were equally cheerful! My father decided on that 1st visit that "this was the place for him", and fortunately there was an apartment that would be available to him in a week's time. Unfortunately, as is often the case with elderly parents, we experienced a medical "emergency" with my Dad several days before his scheduled move-in. The amazing team at Abbotswood moved mountains to get him in-house, and under their expert Living Well @ Home skilled nursing care...an answer to our prayer as we could not give him the care he needed. The team at Abbotswood is enthusiastic, respectful, responsive and incredibly professional! The grounds are beautiful! The interiors are updated and bright! The restaurants serve wonderful food, and are accommodating for each resident's particular needs! I doubt you will find anything in the Triad that is even close to the gem that Abbotswood is!

Second shift staff members are on their cell phones ALL THE TIME when they should be care giving. Our mother "got out," wanting to see what was going on downstairs, and several staff members circled her yelling and grabbing at her trying to drag her onto the elevator. I was on the phone and could hear my mother screaming because she was terrified. Rather than handle the situation with experienced empathy and kindness, they CALLED THE POLICE on her. How did she get off the semi secured floor..?? If they were doing their jobs instead of talking on their cell phones, OR if there were more (TRAINED) staff per resident, her chances of getting out should have been slim to none. While she was there, the staff did nothing to help her feel welcomed and at home The activities directors are well trained and kind, and they did more care giving for some of the residents than the actual caregivers. There are signs all over the place to the staff that they "work for the residents..." however, with the exception of 2-3 good caregivers we saw staff only being inconvenienced by the residents. Our mother was mentally abused because the caregivers are not trained. She did not feel safe and we did not feel that she was safe. Supervisors are great communicators until you have a complaint or question their actions, then they will pretend they don't see you and ignore your requests for communication. Btw, the windows on the 2nd floor do not have locks to prevent them opening only a few inches, instead they can be opened all the way, which can leave your loved one with any level of dementia or poor balance in a potentially dangerous situation. If you decide to move your loved one to Blakey Hall, show up unannounced at various times of the day and observe the terrible way your loved one is treated. The only reason I'm even giving one star is because of the 2-3 caregivers and the activities directors. If it weren't for these folks, I would give 0 stars. We heard such good things about Blakey Hall, and were impressed by the lovely grounds, but that is just their facade...the real stuff happens inside.
