On 2/11/21, our daughter injured her right knee secondary to a contact injury, while playing basketball in 8th grade. We sought medical care at a local facility, at which time it was confirmed that she had a complete tear of her Right ACL. She had surgery on 3/2/21 for a Right ACL Reconstruction. Within the first week postoperatively, she began PT. She spent the next 8 months doing intense physical therapy, several times per week, both at home and at a local PT facility. Approximately 9 months postoperatively, she was incredibly strong, and cleared to return to sports. However, she continued to go to PT in order to optimize her strength and mobility, as well as to minimize risk of reinjury. She returned to the basketball court for 9 games, when sadly on 1/4/22, she suffered a non-contact injury to her left knee with only 50 seconds left in the bb game. She was evaluated the following day and found to have a contralateral tear to her Left ACL, which she later had Left ACL Reconstruction on 1/11/22. 3 days postoperative, she resumed PT, but now with the focus on the left knee, all while trying to maintain her strength and mobility of the right leg as well. She went on to have intense PT for a total of 2- 1/2 years.
Carter Hoffman, DPT came highly recommended to us by our surgeon, and he did not disappoint. His incredible and vast knowledge of sports medicine, strength, mobility, kinesiology, and prevention of reinjury is beyond admirable. He not only focused on her recovery from "routine" ACL reconstruction, but also evaluated how she moved and why she moved the way she does. He identified risk factors that could lead to injury so that he could ultimately prevent a recurrence in the future. He was continuously assessing, planning, implementing, and reevaluating every movement, every bit of setback/progress, every emotion along the way. Carter's attention to detail, and holistic approach to providing care to his patients is nothing short of amazing. He exceeded all expectations, and always strived for excellence and pushed our daughter to be the best she can be. He treats his patients like one of his own family, genuinely concerned about all assets of the situation at hand. His ability to capture our daughter's undivided attention, and educate her about her injuries, and prevention thereof, created the foundation of success for not only her future athletic career, but also lessons in life. He inspired her to work hard for what she wants, and to never stop believing in herself. Our daughter is now a Senior in high school, pursuing her dream of playing Varsity volleyball, and has been selected to play on a Nationals Club Volleyball team this winter. Not only has Carter made a lasting impression on our family's lives, he has also inspired our daughter to pursue a career in PT after she graduates. Carter Hoffman's, DPT Physical Therapy program comes highly recommended on all levels. read more
