Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre

I am a firm believer in getting defensive when an outsider rips apart things from your home…read moretown, but in the case of Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre please visit and fill your bile filled boots. Failure to do so will mean it will never change,EVER!!! Phone shops check, pound shops check, sub-standard cup of coffee check, feeble excuse for a market check and enough flammable shell suits to fill an Oxfam on a Tuesday night in Mani. About four years ago Littlewoods went out of business and left a huge empty 2 storey shop in the exchange centre. It is still empty now because of the stupid rates that the Centre owners try to charge people, the Market is dire because of the rates the Centre owners charge. Notice a theme here? The good folk of Rochdale keep being told that we will be soon getting a Debenhams, thanks for that,a shop everybody has had for the last 3 billion years, what's next, indoor toilets???? This is horrible, what started off as a true representation of my sorry excuse of a shopping centre has turned into me considering running in the Council elections. In a post apocalyiptical future when we are all slaves to our Cockroach Overlord Masters I hope to bring you a more favourable review of The Rochdale Exchange Sopping Centre. Until then i'll continue going into what passes for our chain of HMV and weep over the smallest and worst excuse for a Heavy Metal section the World has ever seen.... SOB : (

Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre

The Wheatsheaf is one of the smaller shopping centres in Rochdale, to join the Rochdale Exchange…read moreand high street, but on my visit it certainly wasn't the "best shopping centre in town" as the website makes out. The wheatsheaf is quite a big space with 3 floors, but still it isn't a very nice shopping centre, with not many places left, staff walking around or even signage. This shopping centre does have a lift, but it is confusing and they isn't enough signage to say where is where, and it is hard to go up and down the floors as it seems not worth to even come in here, due to a lack of shops. On my visit, it was reasonably late on a Monday evening, but still the shops were open, but the atmosphere was terrible, it was as quiet as a library and simply not a nice place to shop, with empty spaces and only few, large shops such as Wilko and Argos. Parking here is quite easy enough with a large amount of parking of course being in Rochdale city centre, with most of them being free of course, but still when in Rochdale centre, this certainly is a place you will only visit to go to one of the stores like Wilko and Argos, and when you do, it certainly feels like an inconvenience. Ryan C has got it spot on, it is simply an arndale for Argos and Wilkinsons, with a few other additions. I can't warrant giving any more than one star for the Wheatsheaf sadly.

This also was the 1st time I had stepped into "The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre". Wow, what a dump. It's basically a indoor shopping centre for Wilkinsons & Argos as they are the only 2 stores that I ventured into due to the others being either being empty or at that moment I time I neither wanted my nails doing or my eyebrows threaded. See ya in another 10 years

B&M Store

B&M Store

B&M Bargains is located in Rochdale town centre, on Yorkshire street right next to the Rochdale…read moreExchange Shopping centre. The store is pretty much an average B&M, the store layout and decor is pretty much cheap and basic, as one would expect to a degree from a budget retailer. The selection of some items such as beverages, refrigerated and at the cupboard was much poorer and smaller than the average selection at a typical B&M Bargains location and even falls short compared to rival chain Home Bargains. The queuing system was also pretty tight and messy, and the staff didn't seem too friendly either. Some of the items just felt like they'd been there for so long, to the point they just felt old and looked dirty, which even for a more budget store isn't good enough. 1*

This is a nice, new Marks and Spencer store, located as part of the Rochdale Riverside Retail &…read moreLeisure complex, with Marks and Spencer relocating to this new store, from their old spot in the town, this store is an upgrade for sure, with the store having a much more modern and up-to-date feel to it. The store has good facilities you'd expect to find in most Marks and Spencer locations including an M&S Cafe, Food Hall and toilet facilities. I did find the Food Hall to be a reduced selection compared to what you'd usually find in Marks and Spencer, it seems to offer a taster of the brand, more than anything else. For example, they may sell many products such as meat, dairy and fruit juices, but the choices within these sections seem to be much fewer than in other stores. I couldn't find the specific type of sausages and milk that I wanted... but there were similar alternatives Many items seemed to have a much shorter shelf life than I would have liked/expected too, I noticed the use-by date on many products to be 2-3 days, and that in a different store would be considerably longer. I understand they are restricted by Sunday trading hours, but it is a shame they are one of the first stores in town to close on a Sunday, I would much prefer their opening hours to be from 11 am to 5 pm, compared to their current 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, as the extra half hour in the afternoon makes all the difference to me. The opening hours Monday to Saturday, are much more reasonable between 8 am and 7 pm. 3* - A nice modern store, a decent size, and a great brand to have in the town, but not the best Marks and Spencer by all means, with some issues.
