Marilyn Anderson said on Connections: My relationship to Peacework goes back to 1990. However, my connection to farming goes way back to my childhood when I grew up on a family farm in Oregon. I remember how nearly self sufficient we were. On our land we grew fruit trees and berries of many kinds, nut trees, and, of course, a large vegetable garden. We canned during the summer and by winter, our cellar was stocked with hundreds of jars of canned fruit and vegetables. Vegetables in the root cellar fed us all winter long. However, upon entering high school, because of the death of my mother, our large family moved to Portland. Thus, we became part of the exodus, along with millions more in the US, who abandoned farming in the second half of the 20th century.
It is easy to understand that being a part of Peacework Organic CSA awaken's my good memories of those years. Always, I recall how hard my father and mother worked to feed and provide for me and my brothers and sisters. Because of these early experiences, I know what farm work means, and I know about the devotion that our Peacework farmers must have to give CSA members their high quality vegetables. They and other small scale (artesanal) (sp??) producers deserve not only our respect but our support for their role in preserving local ecological farming traditions -- which at the same time, also help to save our planet. And the Peacework produce is so good and absolutely beautiful! read more
