We went early saturday morning hoping to beat the rush and the summer heat. Upon arrival we were the first ones there woohoo then it went downhill. We walked to the patch and it was picked over pretty good. We saw bunch of guys in the field prior to opening to the public and perhaps picked them over pretty good. We stopped by the stand and they had massive strawberries!! We managed to fill our containers (none close to that quality) after awhile but seemed like every 3-4 plants one had a good medium size strawberry, most were tiny with a few rotten bigger ones and eaten/fungus mixed in. Got home and tried a few 'good' ones and they were very watery , not very flavorful. Prices were more than expected (internet research) and for the not so good quality of berries. First time strawberry picking, it looked like decent little farm just wish the berries were better and more plentiful. The ladies were nice. Might try another berry patch next time closer to home. read more

You can't travel to NY in the fall without making time for apple picking. First of all, the apples are so super fresh that you will become an apple snob for life. There is nothing like a fresh, crisp, juicy apple on a sunny fall day. And, there are plenty of choices to suit your tastes whether you like sweet, or tart and tangy, or anywhere in between. It's a party for your mouth. You can get a ridiculous amount of fresh, crunchy apples for a super low price plus a little tiny bit of manual labor, if you can even call it that. The trees are dwarfs (please excuse my political incorrectness), so you only have to stretch a little bit once in a while to get the one that catches the twinkle in your eye. There are strawberries, pumpkins and potatoes, too, depending on when you visit. Overall, it's a great place to go when you need to get some fresh air and sunshine while getting a tiny bit of exercise. I went there years ago and I have forgotten how much it had changed. I'm pretty impressed with all hard works they have invested into apples, berries, potatoes, and etc. it's amazing! When we came to the entrance and staffs were very friendly and asked us what we would like. We got a lot of apples and strawberries. They are so delicious and it is worth of the 30 mins trip. I'd recommend anyone who want to pick more just apples then this farm is perfect place for you to pick them! read more

My partner and I searched for a location to pick organic apples. Online research took us to G and S orchards' website. The website spoke of natural processes and sustainable agriculture practices. Nowhere did their website speak of using non-selective herbicides or other harmful chemicals. It was surprisingly difficult to find an organic orchard, so we thought we were in luck. We were excited to visit and pick some healthy, delicious fruit. When we arrived the staff appeared friendly and pleasant, although not well informed. We asked about their growing practices but they did not know the facts related to our basic questions. They deferred to the "i don't think they use harmful chemicals" response. We made the trip, so we decided to check it out. We started picking apples, and on about the fourth variety we saw a strip of faded grass and not a living plant at the base of the trees. It was clearly evident that some Round-Up or similar product was used. We walked the grounds and eventually found an employee who spoke to the necessity of using Round-Up and that the media was "making a big deal out of it". Information and education are the keys here. I can't speak to the viability of running a profitable orchard using organic practices, so for that I am not judging. What I am judging is the website's ability to mislead the public into thinking one thing and delivering another. At the very least, inform your employees what growing practices are used so they can answer your customer's questions. read more

My first raspberry picking ever and thanks to G&S I loved my first experience!!! This farm is huge and it has a variety of fruits to pick! The teenagers helping the stand that day were so sweet and well manner. I live too far from this farm but if I ever come to town to visit I would 100% come back here to pick whatever fruits they have in season. read more

($3.75 per pound this season) It's easy to get to, staff is always very friendly and it's never too crowded in the patches. We have been a member of G & S's CSA for several years now. We've always done their fruit share and dabbled in the veggie share. This year we did fruit, veggie, and the new greens share. As with any good CSA we're overwhelmed each week with produce! Quality of produce is top notch! We normally pick a few times a year although we haven't had time to go this year. G & S has an incredible selection throughout the summer months. Their stands are always stocked and their hours are marked very obviously at their stand. There is typically a cashier available at the stand but, if not, there is a cash box available. They have a huge sign at the corner of Atlantic and Lincoln. Their produce always looks amazing and is some of the best-tasting, fresh produce I have ever had. I eat blueberries by the pint from them! As a blueberry hater, this should say something. The difference between their blueberries and store-bought is that G & S produce actually has flavor. Thank you to G & S for all of your hard work to provide us with stellar produce! Horrible service. went to g and s orchards this afternoon and had an awful experience. Very rude and racist owners. There was no room to park the car on the gravel and we needed to park on the grass, so as not to get hit by any passing cars. Pointing his finger and in an angry voice he yells telling my mom: " YOU people are the worst!" Drove out thirty minutes to their farm to enjoy some quality time with the family picking fruit. After 4 years of coming here we just had the worst experience, we showed up at 2:50 and approached to get buckets and the girls stated they were closing at 3. I asked if we could pick for 10 minutes since we drove for half hour and was told NO but I could purchase at the farm stand. My husband and I started walking to the farm stand and the Caucasian girl with brown curly hair ran after us repeating they were closed. We told her the hours on yelp and google indicated a closing time of 5:30 PM but we were actually walking to the farm stand. She said ok but then followed us to the farm stand and while we're waiting in line to buy she berated us about moving our car because they needed to close. We made our purchase and returned to the parking area and there were at least 15 other cars and families still picking or getting ready to leave so I'm not sure why she chose to follow us around. But it was the worst service and experience we have ever encountered especially because we have loved and supported this farm for so long. read more

Over in "Talk" fellow Yelper Don mentioned the farm stand they have out at G & S. I didn't realize it was quite so far away, or I wouldn't have gone, but ultimately I am glad I went and have been back several times since. In fact, for the past month or so almost all of our vegetables have been from the farm stand. Prices are on the competitive-to-high range with other stands and markets, but the quality of the produce is really wonderful and well worth it. I have also picked (A LOT OF) blueberries there. They have a ton of selection of other less popular berries, too; gooseberries, currants, June berries etc. Berry picking would be a great family activity, just make sure to check out the hours on the website and the tips/etiquette. The farm uses a combination of farming practices (organic/IPM). They also have a CSA program-- I do not participate in that because I rather just choose my own vegetables, but gauging from what they have at the farm stand location it is probably a great CSA if you are looking for one. read more

Today's been my first and the last berries pick up at this 'organic', the way they claim lol, considering a nuclear power plant right up to the north. Picked up blueberries and wanted to BUY! Currant leaves as tea herbs. I was given the stupidest explanation: 'leaves are a part of a plant, and the plants are our property, and currants are out of season. Thus, we cannot sell the leaves.' I hope, you, the 'lady'owner, do realize how miserably cheap you are. Not to mention, the overpricing due to the claim of berries 'organic' nature. We picked this farm to go apple picking because the website made it sound like their practices are safe for the environment. The first person we spoke with at the farmstand told us that they don't use any harmful chemicals at all. When we talk to an actual farmer who is responsible for spraying pesticides, not only did he tell us that they use roundup, but he was proud about it. We were saddened by his blatant ignorance. Roundup is a known human carcinogen. I was disappointed that first of all they lied to us and second of all that they would continue to use practices that are so harmful not only to humans, but to the environment. I charge this farm with making some changes so your practices are safe to humans and any of the other inhabitants of your property. And PLEASE educate your staff on the fact that you do indeed use very harmful chemicals so they don't continue to misrepresent to the public. People have a right to know what they're being exposed to when they eat your fruits and vegetables. read more

Loveeee G and S orchards!!! We just moved to the area from South Florida (yes, on purpose) and wanted to try something different with our 3 boys (ages 7,5 and 3) and I am SO happy we decided to do so. We went today for the 2nd time this month and picked Gala and Macintosh Apples as well as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries , tomatoes and strawberries. Our favorite part: the "You dig potatoes" (yukon gold and red). The boys would have digged all day! What a terrific way to spend our morning. So relaxing and rewarding. The prices are also VERY fair and the staff is always smiley and helpful. We froze our berries , made homemade tomatoe sauce and made apple pie today and we cant wait to go back again to stock up for the winter! read more
