This results in poor sleep quality that makes you tired during the day. Sleep apnea is one of the leading causes of excessive daytime sleepiness). Well my scheduled appointment for the study was actually a week away, but I totally got the dates mixed up and ended showing up a week ahead (last night actually). The technician at the front, who also was walking in when I did), was so pleasant and insisted that although my scheduled time was a week away, to please wait an extra hour in case someone did cancel or was a no show. She said that this one person has canceled or was a no show three times in the past and she would really like me not to waste my drive here. So of course, I waited in this pleasantly decorated reception area and counted down the hour. Low and behold (big surprise) he never showed up so they accommodated me. This was a really good thing because I was there already and the fact that she accommodated me was awesome. Now, the actual rooms you are given makes it seem as if you are in a nice 4 star hotel suite. I mean, its a nice moss green (very soothing) with your own bathroom (nicely decorated glass in green tile, shower, you know the works). The technicians came in and explained the WHOLE procedure to me, and I proceeded to go into la la land. Although of course I had wires everywhere and I was being monitored all night for different rhythms in my brain. I thought this place to be extremely professional and wow, the staff are just as nice as can be. In the morning, they wake you up (5 AM.) and let you complete your study with an hour of getting ready, so of course I showered and left. I just think that this was a really nice experience and hopefully I will get answers as to why I am having restless nights. I did appreciate also that they share parking with Leona's (next door) and for Oak Park this is a must since you will get a ticket if you park in the street. After reporting these concerns and repeatedly requesting to speak with the charge nurse, Dominica, I was unable to speak with her. Shortly afterward, I experienced what felt like retaliatory treatment. My husband, who was attempting to join me in my treatment room as my support person and medical advocate, was allegedly told he needed "security clearance" before being allowed back. We were also told I needed to speak with staff about why I was there before he could enter my room, despite Rush's publicly available visitor policy stating adult emergency department patients may have one visitor at bedside. During this interaction, my husband was approached aggressively by Security Supervisor Schmidt, and police were called regarding the situation. A unit director later approached me and accused me of recording her conversation. I immediately showed her my phone and explained that I was drafting an email to Patient Relations regarding my concerns. As a pregnant patient already dealing with elevated blood pressure and medical concerns, this experience left me feeling humiliated, unsafe, and unsupported. Worse yet, even when you are finally assigned a specific cab number, there is zero order outside; other people will routinely jump ahead and take your designated taxi, forcing you to start the entire process over again. This chaotic, confusing setup is incredibly difficult and stressful for people who are ill, exhausted, or unfamiliar with the area.
