Spring Hollow also felt like a true community for our family; supportive, welcoming, and aligned with the values we wanted reinforced at home. The school operates under the Reggio-Emilia philosophy (meaning the children can self-direct their own learning) . After saying goodbye at the goodbye window, the day starts with the children together talking about what is going on in the day. The children have times where they can choose to be outside or inside and a teacher is in each spot helping them out. In either spot they can play, paint, work with materials or dress up. It is quite exciting to the see the daily email from the teachers with pictures of what the kids during the day. The thing that surprised me the most is the amount of cooperation and group play that emerges when you leave the kids on their own. In every email, there are pictures of a group of kids exploring or playing house and the kids have assigned themselves different rules. We went to the open house at Spring Hollow and were able to sit in on a day with our son. If you are unsure, plan to stop in and you won't be disappointed. We explored a number of preschools for our son, but I think we decided on the right place when we sent him to Spring Hollow.

Our family has been at this school for three years. While our two girls (2 1/2 and 6) are very…read moredifferent, we have seen them each grow and flourish at Montessori of Franklin in their own ways. I am confident that this is because of the combination of caring and attentive teachers and a quality Montessori approach to education. As a result of what they've learned at Montessori, both of our children are very self-sufficient (pouring their own milk and juices, putting on their own coats, helping to cut and peel fruits and vegetables, and so much more). Since she began attending the toddler program, our youngest (who had separation difficulties at other schools) has become much more independent and self-confident. She is even excited to go to school and talks about her friends and teachers when at home! In her three years at Montessori, we have seen our oldest daughter grow in ways I cannot even describe--she is growing into a strong, compassionate young girl, with a solid foundation in academics and most importantly a love and passion for learning. This evening, as we were reading bedtime stories, she told me that her friend asked her how she was getting so smart and that she answered, "Because I like to read a lot!" (she has been reading independently since she was 4 years old thanks to her fantastic teacher and Montessori methods!)

They responded to our request for more information right away (unlike some of the other well-ranked schools in the area that took weeks to get back to us), offered us an in-depth tour of the school and followed up the next day. You can tell by the kids' reactions that they really love them too. The curriculum is much more than I had expected to find, well-rounded and rather advanced. I love that they include foreign language, music and art throughout the day in various activities, so it's all blended. Also really liked the fact that their teachers are professionals and that they partner with several local organizations to offer in-school activities (Nashville Zoo, Nashville Ballet, etc.). Security was one of our main concerns, and they've definitely invested in that area, so it's much easier for a first time parent to feel their child is safe. All in all we're really glad we found them!

We are so fortunate to be able to spend five fabulous years there. We have had two neighbors join the school after hearing me rave about it. The community CSM has created is so special, full of kindness and love. They instill a joy of learning and a strong foundation of skills that will serve children well into their adulthood. It's not only academics - they build real life skills, grace & courtesy, social & emotional resilience, and care of environment. I attribute my child's love of washing dishes and windows solely to the Montessori works she happily chooses in the classroom. She also has been able to participate in enrichment art, dance, and soccer classes during the school day, which is so convenient for working parents. The guides are well-trained and tenured. They managed to have continuous in-person school throughout the 2020-21 school year because they keep their classrooms and school environment so clean and safe. The before-care is free and the after-care is at a reasonable rate. We only need to use the after-care occasionally and my child begs to be allowed to stay more often. Montessori is all about "follow the child" and she shows me everyday that we made a great choice in joining CSM.

This is our 3rd year our child has been attending Brentwood Montessori Academy. My husband was not…read moreconvinced going into our first year...He said one, maybe two years, but that definitely changed!. The first year, she started to write in cursive...The second year she moved into a new classroom and had several work stations, jobs, and an extra bonus of getting to go to violin class (with only paying a violin rental of $20 a month), and several extra curricular activities that we could add on after school (1 hour extra). Her teachers noticed after a few weeks she was behind on reading a little, and let us know promptly so we could get right on to ramping up her reading...She made a huge turn around! We love this environment of learning. We love that kids are able to be kids, but also learn lots of responsibility and independence. They get to go home and be a kid without loads of homework, although, you can request some learning sheets to be sent home. Now, in our choice to choose Montessori once again, for a 3rd year in 2020, we had a couple important requirements with our choice to go back. We already had an excellent experience so far, but the pandemic and how it was going to be handled at Montessori was key to us continuing. After reading their new policy, we saw that great efforts were made in making the children's environment as normal as possible. This was absolutely critical in us sending our daughter back. They had also placed common sense approaches for keeping kids and staff safe. Because the kids have separate work spaces where they do their individual work, they are already socially distanced. They do temperature checks where my child can be checked with her wrist. They also have hand sanitizing stations (my child is able to bring her organic sanitizer-90% ) and they take the time to keep things extra clean. They have a great system of separating rooms, in case of Covid exposure which really limits the amount of shut downs. This has been brilliant! We have seen the damaging effects of other overly strict policies in so many other surrounding schools (including a lot of depression, discouragement, and lack of learning) so we couldn't be more happy in the way they have handled this so far. Because she is able to go back to school, and not have us home school her, the teachers were able to recognize that she had a bit of a learning disability and we were able to immediately jump on that and get a tutor. One of her teachers actually took the time to educate herself better on her type of disability in order to understand and be able to serve her and some other kids with this issue even better. We would have never even known she had some issues. Now we can save her the heartache of losing her self confidence and falling behind. We highly support Jim Bernstorf and his highly compassionate & knowledgeable staff. We thank them so much for the way they teach the children. Thanks to them, our child can go to school in freedom. As Maria Montessori said, "Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and, when the grass of the meadows is damp with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning as it wakes every living creature that divides its day between walking and sleeping."

The…read moreteachers are nothing short of amazing with the kids, many of them former teachers in private and Williamson County schools, and it is visible that they love the children and helping them learn in fun, creative ways. They have tons of active learning and fun activities with visits from the fire department, people who show them how to make apple cider from a press, guest story tellers, Halloween parades and trunk or treat, they have their own pumpkin patch, "friendship feasts" at Thanksgiving, breakfast with Santa, "career dress up days", way too many more to list! They have an annual program where they teach the kids songs and dances and the teacher even handmade their costumes. Then they provided each family a DVD of the whole thing so you don't have to crawl over parents to get a blurry video. My son comes home every single day with creative art work that is cute enough you want to frame it. He has learned his letters and numbers in fun ways like saying them while jumping on a mini trampoline and they spend as much time teaching them how to be good friends and respectful little people as school work. The teachers send home folders daily with specifics on what they did and learned that day and what they plan to do that week with reminders of any upcoming dates (and remind you of anything needed via email also). Communication is top notch, they will even let you know if your child is having a great day by texting a photo or if they had a hard morning, they will text you when they are all good (usually about 5 min after you leave!) From pick up and drop off to the order of the day it is a fine tuned machine. I was amazed today at the parade of how all the kids line up, use manners, and look so happy to be there. The classes are small (usually 4-6 kids) so they have lots of one on one attention and little friends they get to know and play with. It's really a special place for your little one to grow and learn and everything I ever hoped for in a preschool and a hundred times more. The tuition is more than affordable, especially for the attention and learning and genuinely caring teachers the kids get each day they are there. There are some great preschool programs in the area, but this place is one of a kind.

Very disappointing experience…read more We ultimately decided to leave The Academy of Westhaven because of the lack of communication, organization, and consistency we experienced from the very beginning. With an infant, communication is extremely important to us, and we rarely received meaningful updates about how our son's day was going. When I would ask a teacher at pickup how his day was, I was frequently told, "I don't know." If I asked when he had last eaten or how much he had consumed, I was often directed to check the app because the teacher didn't know either. For an infant, I found that extremely concerning and frustrating. We also experienced repeated issues with our son's belongings. We were given other children's bottles, clothes, and items, and our son's belongings would sometimes end up in other children's drawers. At one point, we were even told not to worry about putting his name on his things, which was confusing considering how often items were being mixed up. There were also multiple occasions where his bottles were forgotten when his backpack was packed. One experience that was especially concerning was arriving to pick up my son and finding him with a pacifier that belonged to another child. My son had stopped taking a pacifier after his first week, so I knew immediately that it was not his. I also frequently encountered teachers I had never met when picking him up, which added to the feeling that there wasn't much consistency in his care. After we expressed our concerns, we did start receiving more updates, but the organizational issues continued. We also received a photo through the app that appeared to be of a different child. That was extremely concerning to us--not only because it was clearly not our son, but because it made me question whether our child's photos or information could potentially be sent to another family. The office administrator told me that she checked everything before it was sent, which made the situation even more confusing. Overall, the experience felt very chaotic and overwhelming. It seemed like the staff were struggling to keep up with the number of children in their care. For the price we were paying, we expected a much higher level of communication, organization, consistency, and attention to detail. At times, it felt more like an overpriced daycare than the level of care and education we were expecting from an academy. I also work with members of the local community, and several clients independently shared with me that they had been unhappy with their own experiences there and ultimately moved their children elsewhere. I cannot personally speak to experiences I did not witness, so I won't repeat those allegations as facts, but hearing similar concerns from multiple families did reinforce our decision to leave. We chose to leave before our concerns became something more serious because, as parents, we would rather make a change early than wait for something to happen that could have been prevented. We simply wanted our son to be somewhere that was organized, communicative, consistent, and where we felt confident that he was being cared for and known by the people taking care of him. Unfortunately, The Academy of Westhaven did not give us that confidence.

The management are completely catty, the food standards are terrible and the staff have high school educations at best, are in many cases unable to use proper english and many shout across the playground at the students in rough slang. I dont know how they get decent reviews. All I can figure is that parents arent paying close enough attention to whats actually going on. I can also say I am not the only parents with this experience. I was recently told that they have stuck the woman who was the cook in the class as a teacher and the admin are now preparing all the meals. What they are doing with all the tuition I have no idea but its not going into the kids.
