Returned for my 2nd year in a row! This go round I opted to go around 6pm on a weekday to avoid the crowds. We were able to quickly find parking, enjoyed some free cider and hot cocoa while we browsed the holiday accessories b4 heading back out to pick out THE tree (Fraser Fir). The attendants were friendly, attentive and helpful as always. We loved the selection/prices of the trees available. Very happy that I found Payne Christmas Trees. Shopping for a tree here was a really nice experience that puts you in the holiday spirit. They have a lot to offer and it's family friendly. There's visits to Santa for kids, free hot chocolate and apple cider, marshmallow roasting, and a holiday market with beautiful Christmas ornaments, wreaths and more. As soon as you get there you can smell the fresh pine and there are trees of all sizes that you can choose from. The staff is friendly and helpful, there to answer your questions and help once you pick your tree. The trees are fully, good quality and reasonably prices. They usually carry your tree to the front where it's trimmed and wrapped then secured on your car. I did go on a Sunday so it was busy, but not overly crowded. I would definitely recommend if you're looking to purchase a live tree. read more

There I found all sorts of treats. The tree was carried and tied to the roof of our vehicle and it made it home safely. We paid 72 bucks for our 6foot tree. Going to Payne's to get a Christmas tree has become a yearly tradition now. I did not grow up getting a tree so the full feeling of Christmas was kind of lost on me. But over the past few years my boyfriend and I have been getting a tree and we always come here. The selection is massive and we have gotten the perfect tree whether we came at the beginning of the month or with 3 days left to Christmas (oops). They have a roaring fire outside where you can make smores, there is always complementary hot chocolate or cider. And it is really fast from the moment you pick out your tree to when they have it all netted and secured on top of your car. Payne Christmas Trees have become a large part of our families Christmas time traditions. We love it here. They serve complimentary Apple Cider and Hot Chocolate for all of the patrons, which is a very nice touch. What we like most about this amazing place is how as soon as you park your car and get out, you feel like you've visited Santa's village. There's an indoor area where you can purchase reefs, ornaments, and a bunch of different little things like bbq sauces made by the locals. On the outside, you get to walk through the maze of trees until you find the one you want. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They'll wrap your tree and assist with tying it on top of your vehicle for those that don't have space on the inside. Lastly, and I think this is the part that wows us the most every time, is the backdrops for photos. There's a really nice fireplace and a Santa statue. My family and I love it here and will continue to make it a part of our annual traditions because we're genuinely happier people after we leave. read more

This is our second year coming to Payne's for our tree. I highly recommend going during the week, which we did this year, making our visit even better since we were able to avoid the crowds. They have a very large selection of top quality trees, a wonderful holiday market, complimentary hot chocolate and cider, cute areas for photos, a fireplace for roasting marshmallows, and Santa! The staff are all very friendly, helpful, and quickly get the tree cut, wrapped, and fixed to your vehicle. In the market, they have tons of ornaments for any taste (including some locally made), decorations, stocking stuffers, serving ware, fresh wreaths and garland, coffee, jam, candy, and more. Perfect visit, perfect holiday stop. Definitely went here to pick out a tree and feel in love with the displays. So many trees! The guys up front were on stand by to assist in selecting, wrapping, and strapping. Very helpful and friendly. Hot chocolate, cider, marshmallows, all available at fireside. This place is in HOCO and as a bonus, it is the best place I've ever been to for a Christmas tree. My wife kept commenting that it was like being in a Hallmark movie. Payne's needs to re-evaluate their customer service and the way they handle issues with dogs being brought on their premises. Payne's has a "friendly, leashed dog policy" that is not well enforced. I went to purchase my christmas tree and wreath on December 1st. I was there with my two sons, one of whom has had a bad experience with a bull dog so he is a bit afraid of medium-sized dogs. There was a family walking around with a corgi that was barking and snarling at everyone passing by, especially people with other dogs. There were other large dogs that didn't make a peep - but this one? It was nasty. The family also let it urinate on the base of a Christmas tree (that was for sale). To put it politely, these are the kind of people who THINK their dog is friendly and insists on punishing everyone by bringing it everywhere. I watched the dog lunge at small children multiple times. Everyone walking around was staring at the family who was absolutely moronic to say the least. Instead of leaving the dog in the car like a smart person should, they insisted on bring it in. I was surprised no one at the farm was telling them they needed to leave. We ended up getting a tree and wreath totaling close to $200. So, I spent plenty of money there. However, I was not thrilled about their lack of awareness of what kind of animals are being allowed on their property. I just read a story on Nextdoor of a woman who was bitten on the face by someone's dog that was brought to Payne's. This time, a dachsund. The woman said she was looking for the owners because they left without being able to get information and the women - HANDED HER - the dog to hold. I decided to go ahead and message Payne's on Facebook and their response was basically shrugging off my concern. They also insinuated this woman is a liar and claimed that there were pieces left out of her story. She swears up and down that she was handed the dog by it's owners - and it bit her on the face. She needs rabies shots and because Payne's doesn't do their due diligence and allows whoever to bring whatever dog they feel like on their property, they left without being able to give this woman vaccination records. They are being less than helpful in trying to track these women down. Their "friendly, leashed dog" policy is CLEARLY a joke. There is never a time where you -have to- bring your dog to a Christmas Tree farm. Their response to a real concern a paying customer had is ridiculous. Take a look at what is going on with your business before someone's child gets seriously hurt and you all get sued. It is unfortunate because their Christmas decor is pretty and the ambience is (other than the dogs everywhere) great. I like to shop at family businesses and bought my tree there two years in a row but... can't support a business that shrugs off bodily injury that can easily be avoided. read more

Came here for the first time last weekend just to check it out. Very busy but spacious. Large selection of trees outside including planted ones (of all sizes!). Santa was also there in a covid friendly manner. Loved the outdoor fireplaces and they also had a brick-oven pizza truck on site. The inside market had a variety of ornaments, wreaths, and other little gifts. Would definitely recommend for those wanting a fresh tree! read more

My family and I visited this place two days after thanksgiving. This was our first visit and we were super excited due to all the great reviews. The drive to this location was straight forward coming from Prince George's County MD and when we arrived we were in awe. All the different types of trees can be seen from the parking area. Before we walked around we visited the Santa area were the children can take pictures with Santa and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. I'm not sure if he's there everyday or just a few days after thanksgiving. Nevertheless the "Santa" did a great job at being cheerful and excited to see the children. He was truly nice and allowed us to take pictures before giving them mini candy canes. After taking pictures, we saw that they have a hot apple cider/hot chocolate stand with marshmallow toasting for free. My nieces was all smiles to have the hot chocolate and to toast the marshmallow on the open fire. Next, we wandered through the many trees they had and we found them to be reasonably priced. We decided on a Fraser Fir that was about 7 feet tall. Once we found the tree we wanted, we signaled for one of the workers who then tagged the tree with our name, then he gave us part of the tag from the tree to take to the shop for purchase and then he took the tree to get trim. The shop has fresh wreaths for purchase, tree holders and other Christmas like items. After purchasing the tree, we took the tag to the area the tree is trimmed at and gave them the name we placed on the tree and they took the tree to our car and strap it down for us. Note: they allow dogs on a leash which I think is great when you treat your pet like family. Overall, we enjoyed our day at Payne's and will see them again Next year. read more

Always happy with a visit to Payne's. My family has gone a few years now for our annual Christmas tree, and this fall, we went for pumpkins and mums. In addition to the lovely garden selection, they make it a fun family outing. In the fall, Paynes sets out a bounce house slide, corn kernel pit, and seasonal picture props. We originally went to cut down a tree at a farm... pickings were VERY SLIM! So we decided to go somewhere else. I found Payne on my internet search. The staff was super helpful, trees are beautiful and plentiful. They had hot chocolate for the kids, and even a small shop with some holiday decor, and wreaths and swags of all sizes! All of the usual places closer to our home have had fewer and fewer trees, and this year they were a but small for the space we use. Given how challenging everything is these days, it felt a little picky to me. On the one hand I wanted to make due, and on the other hand, the kids needed some holiday fuss. This place was not a compromise at all! They had lovely trees, same prices as the other places we've been to, but perhaps even better since they had more varieties, and really nice staff. The little shop is cute, and Santa was socially distant/up on a stage of sorts. This was my second year buyig my tree from Payne's and I know it's not my last. Last year I was charmed by all the extras (cocoa, marshmallows to roast). Despite the current restrictions I'm happy to report this place still feels magical. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. They have trees for all budgets. The Christmas shop is full of cute Christmas things and higher end artisanal items. There is plenty of space to spread out and plenty of staff to make sure your visit is efficient and enjoyable. This place was fantastic! Their customer service was amazing. We were there on the Saturday after Thanksgiving for our Christmas tree, so we expected it to be busy. What we didn't expect was so many helpful employees. Once we chose our tree one of the young men carried it for us to be wrapped and for the end to be cut off. Then, they loaded it on my car and tied it down. No wait! The store was also a wonderful surprise. Normally, I am pretty good at resisting impulse buys, but I bough two framed pictures and two snowmen because everything was so cute. We also took advantage of the outside fireplace and Santa to take some pictures to use for our Christmas cards. I know we will be back next year! read more
