Law-uy is a soup loaded with veggies and with a lovely broth flavored by aromatics of lemongrass and ginger. I loved how the broth was very clear and crisp and it was definitely a mouth cleanser. Every veggie was crisp and cooked to perfection. The ambiance of the place was really nice, we got there around opening time and it was very homey and warm. We took off our shoes and the wood floor was nice. The staff were all attentive. Ended with some chocolate ice cream to hit the spot. If you're ever in Siquijor, definitely check this place out!

During the cruise, there is entertainment such live music and dance performances. When I went, the buffet offered a variety of Filipino dishes, including pancit, vegetable Kare Kare and Filipino bbq. There were also several Filipino desserts and complimentary juice, while other drinks such as soda could purchased for an additional fee. While I appreciated the variety of food, I found the flavors to be fairly mild. More than the food, it was the atmosphere and experience that made this cruise memorable. I really enjoyed the scenic river ride and seeing all the lush greenery and tropical vegetation. I also liked the live entertainment. The local music and traditional dance performances were impressive and fun to watch. Some of us tourists even joined in the fun Filipino Tinikling dance. The pancit bihon was flavorful and not dry. The scallops were soft and garlicky without being overpowering. The pork BBQ skewers had that classic smoky sweetness and were nicely charred. Service is straightforward and the vibe is casual. This is not fast food. If you come hungry and in a rush, you will get frustrated. If you come expecting fresh, cooked-on-the-spot Filipino food, you will leave happy. This is the kind of place you go to slow down, eat well, and enjoy food that is made properly. We met families from France, based in Manila for work, who were staying at the Hostel for a couple of days as they planned their trip around Harold's extensive island trip privileges and all so affordable, like swimming with their giant turtles around Apo island. I will have a different review specifically on that experience. (Harold, the owner of the hostel and cafe) operates/owns a diving and snorkelling expedition with his shop just by the entrance of the hostel where you can book day trips and rent gear for whatever activity you choose. We had the chance to meet Harold a couple of times as he is also based in L.A but was in town for a vacay. Harold is a gregarious local who ensures your stay in Dumaguete is gravitated outside the walls of his cafe/hostel which is why his love for the open water seeps through his warm smile as he passionately shares his virtuous take on salt water adventures that will entice visitors within the Philippines and from all over the world. Diving trips has a more intricate process as there are open water courses and certificates before your first dive with the crew. (Again will go into detail on a different review) I just wanted to give readers an insight of how Harolds Rooftop Cafe is the start and end to a fun filled day. My favourite picks from the menu are the Adobong Tuna and veggie lumpias. You cannot NOT have adobo when you visit the Philippines. Adobo is the ultimate dish which has all the fixings of garlic, soy sauce and vinegar simmered to perfection with seasonings to heighten the tenderness of any meat of your choosing, in this case the tuna. Sooooooo GOOOD! The second show stopper for me was the veggie lumpias and this cafe serves them BIG AND BOLD and stuffed to the max, fried to the perfect level of crisp and washing all that down with some ice cold beer while your wifi connection has a speed advantage on that rooftop so FaceTime with the parents was uninterrupted as I showcased my sun set view and authentic, good tasting grub. I mean everything else on their menu is portioned unsparingly compared to other restaurants in the area and you can't go wrong with quality. Price point on meals is important especially when your travel budget includes island hopping, travelling with family and excursions. Everything adds up quickly when you're on vacay mode so it's best to know places where it won't disappoint pockets and taste buds.

The restaurant seemed to have its own park where kids can play. It's pretty dark at night though and I think requires more lighting as it can be a safety hazard. They have a big sign at the entrance of the driveway but it wasn't lit up so it was hard to find at nighttime. My biggest turn off would have to be the band...not that they're terrible but rather that they were too loud and their sound system was awful. I'm glad we were seated inside and weren't subjected to ear piercing sounds but I think it really made the experience less enjoyable.

Instead it was a very well polished establishment. There was only a large family and myself at the restaurant so the service was very fast. Even when the waiter initially said the food would take 20 minutes, I received my order in 5-10 minutes. The Kare Kare was amazing I must add! The prices were very fair too. The Kare Kare with a side of rice was about $7 USD. They even accept credit card! The only downfall was no WiFi but you will survive.
