I may be biased, but I absolutely adore TPDT. Anthony, Andrea, Paige and Jess are top tier trainers…read more- they all take a patient approach, explain things in great detail, and truly care about the relationship between you and your dog. I have personally used the boarding for my whole crew over a holiday, and daycare numerous times and my dogs love it. I cannot recommend TPDT enough. If you are in Cleveland (or even remotely in the area) they are the best when it comes to training, pack walks, daycare, and boarding.

Our dog Maisy is a 4 year old Papillon. We looked into training because of her reactivity to other…read moredogs and we wanted to eventually be able to go on walks with her without her having a meltdown. With her age, we knew training would not be a perfect fix and we just wanted to get to a manageable spot. We found Turning Point Dog Training through a Google search and reached out. Within a day or two (I think it was same day), we got a response from Andrea, one of their dog trainers. Andrea was very accommodating with scheduling as my partner and I both work full time. When we first met with her - we immediately felt comfortable. One thing that I noticed and really appreciated right off is that we were not rushed through an appointment. Andrea took her time with us and we even ended up staying over time. She easily could have said "oh times up" or "I have another appointment". But this showed me that they would take time with our dog. We ended up selecting a 3 week board and train as that is what we felt fit out life best at the moment. Again - we went in with expectations that Maisy may never be perfect, but we wanted manageable. We met up with Andrea for her midway session and then again for a public outing at 3pm in a local park (I never thought I would take Maisy to a busy park with lots of dogs at 3pm), and we were absolutely blown away. It was a night and day difference! Maisy was walking near dogs and not having a full freak out and was able to remain calm. We did have to correct some minor behaviors - but she's still learning and so are we! Those behaviors we corrected though were nothing like anything she did in the past that felt unmanageable. We get Maisy back today from our 3 week board and train and we can't wait to see how it goes integrating what she has learned and what we have learned into our everyday life. I will post another review after a couple of weeks and/or months for an update. But so far, we have had such a great and meaningful experience! Other things we enjoyed: They send daily photo updates so you are never left without seeing your pup! They also have around the clock care and have eyes on your dog almost all the time if not all the time. Maisy was in such good hands.

Maya in particular does an excellent job. She's patient and very detail-oriented with all of her cats and dogs. During our initial training session, we encountered a trainer who stated that "dogs don't have feelings," and basically told us if our dog was not in our eyesight at any point in time they should be caged which made us uncomfortable. As a result, we requested a refund. We were advised that we could transfer to a different trainer, but when we attempted to reschedule with another trainer, we were informed that our session timeframe had expired, and therefore, we were not eligible for a refund or to schedule additional sessions without purchasing a new package. Furthermore, the receptionist explained that I misunderstood the trainer's comments, asserting that the trainer would never have said "dogs have no feelings," despite having heard the statement multiple times during the session. The receptionist continued to speculate about what the trainer might have said, disregarding our firsthand experience. Due to these concerns, I cannot recommend this facility to friends or family. **Update** We were also informed that additional links for the training collar could only be purchased at the location because they specialize in links imported from Germany. When I called attempting to reschedule a visit, the receptionist stated that individual links could be purchased there. However, upon our visit today, we were told that only complete collars are available for purchase, and separate links are not sold but we could purchase a new collar for $47.00 as if we didn't already waste enough money.

We waited until they were finished and I approached the trainer Mel who was conducting the training. I told him I was having a challenge teaching my Labrador to not pull on her leash. He looked at me and my dog and said "No wonder, its a hunting dog." I didn't let this bother me and got the information for training with his company. We met with Alec for our initial evaluation and were happy with him. He was personable and liked our dog. We liked him. Before committing to training sessions we attended two "pack walks". This is where owners and dogs meet at a park to perform training drills in a group. During these pack walks Alec was there but Mel was clearly in charge. As I walked towards the group with my pup she barked. This clearly annoyed Mel. Alec helped us by placing a prong collar and walking my dog as she calmed. I heard Mel say to Alec "Are we OK" Ignoring me completely. Alec said yes. Mel seemed to act like a drill sergeant. No personality or kindness to him. I got a Kind of a Steven Seagal vibe from him. While performing a sit stay where the owner walks away from their dog then calling them. My pup of less than a year old couldn't do it. When I walked away she followed. Mel took it upon himself to go to my dog and lift sharply on her leash which had a prong collar attached. as I walked a short distance. I turned and could see the confusion and hurt in my pups eyes. As Mel held her collar up. we completed the session paid our $65 for the hour and never returned. I now see why it was Alec we first met to represent the company.

He charges by the hour, but it only took about half an hour for him to teach me how to use the shock collar he recommended to finish training my puppy. I can understand that he still charged me for the full hour, but I think he could have either prorated it or offered something else. It was quite an expensive hour and I like to get what I pay for; I would think someone who wants happy customers would make sure of that. I've tried to call him twice since with questions/concerns related to what he taught me, and the collar he sold me. He didn't return either call. That indicates he just doesn't care to follow through with his customers, so he's lost my respect and I certainly won't be recommending him to others.
