There was a friendly bird that even told us "hello" and "bye"! Definitely make sure you are driving a SUV or truck. There are no paths to drive on and our SUV almost got stuck in the sand. Not having a road allows you closer interaction with the animals which you don't have with some of the larger drive-thurs.

Wanted something fun todo while in the Nacogdoches area since my hubby and I decided to give East Texas a try. We found Grapeland Safari via Google wasn't mentioned much on Yelp so off we went. You really have to pay attention or you'll pass it. This Safari starts you inside of their shop where for most people it's $12.95/pp and they do take credit cards. You get one free cup of feed per person but like I said before I recommend purchasing a bucket of feed. We bought the $10 one and felt that it even wasn't enough. Bought a few souvenirs they gave cute little magnets and nice ball caps. The lady behind the counter said they would be getting new items in soon representing their little park. Now on to the animals! You enter and exit the same gate so be mindful of others. This Safari does not have a set path and you're welcome to drive all over the fields just be careful of the animals.

5-Star!!! Looking at Membership!!…read more We are absolutely blown away by our experience at 7 Acre Wood! As small business owners, we know what it's like to get unfair reviews--and honestly, we're not sure what people could possibly complain about here. Everything was so well-maintained, from the grounds to the animal enclosures, and the entire place had a warm, welcoming feel. Every animal was friendly, approachable, and clearly used to kind human interaction. Our kids (6-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl) were able to pet and spend quality time with all of them--which is something you don't get at most places. The putt-putt course was a fun bonus, and the playground looked brand new--better than what you'd see at most parks! We stayed for 5 full hours, and not once did the kids get bored. Even in 95-degree heat, there was plenty of shade and a nice breeze, making it very tolerable. The staff was amazing, and a young man named Cameron stood out--super friendly and helpful when we asked about the male tortoises (which were incredible to see up close). We also noticed multiple people working to keep everything clean and cared for the entire time we were there. On top of all that, the food prices were shockingly affordable, which made it even more enjoyable. We left grateful, refreshed, and already planning our next visit. This place is a hidden gem and a great example of how a small attraction can be run with excellence and heart.

The condition of the animals is so sad. Probably about the same amount as the average Joe or Jane. They've got fish in tanks on displays, as well as crocodiles (not in tanks though, but in their own enclosure). They've got an exhibit on models of fish caught over the year. Some get pretty big and impressive as well as an insane amount of lures. They have a quick little show with a giant tank and diver in it teaching about the different fish there. We followed it with a tram tour around the fishery. They showed where the fish was kept and explain the process. Towards the end they'll offer to let you off so you can walk back through their marsh walkway or take you back on the tram. We opted for the walk since it was such a beautiful day out and it was scenic and a good short walk to get the heart going. My favorite part was the fishing pond they have. They'll even set you up with rod and lures to fish there as part of your admission. Before they send you off, they'll give you a quick little spiel to get you started. Ask if you're needing more information. The man running this station is super helpful! We didn't catch anything but it was still a lot of fun. We did see others catch fish. Highly recommend, especially if you have children!

Lots of smaller aquariums showcasing various native fish. Ride the tram and take the short walk back on the "wetlands trail" (not wet) and enjoy the birds and the scenery.
