For the location and price this was a worthwhile stop on our roadtrip. Our favorite things were the scenic and affordable train ride, free roaming peacocks, playful otters and tree shaded sidewalks. I would suggest clear labels and informational signs for animals in the SOLAR amphibian/reptile room. Google lens helped us identify a few animals.

I absolutely love this zoo. They have a large variety of animals like lions, jaguars, giraffes and more. Kids just love to come here. The zoo is very affordable and they have an epic train ride outside the zoo for kids and adults to enjoy. I highly recommended this amazing zoo.

Very cool!! A must see while in Lufkin. We enjoyed it as much as we do the Dallas & Ft. Worth zoos!

More Peacock's, the white ones too!!!

A really, really nice little Zoo located on the loop on the North side of Lufkin. They have around 800 animals at this Zoo that are also located by a lake and Park. Also included is a miniature train much similar to the Houston Zoo. Although not at big it more than makes up for it with the beautifully landscaped grounds and amenities. They have a refreshment stand, gift shop, and conveniently located restrooms. It is well laid out and you can complete the tour taking your time in around two hours. Lots of shade trees, fountains, and benches. They have Alligators, Flamingos, a White Rhino, Giraffe's, Hippos, which is why we went because our 6 year old wanted to see Hippo's. The Houston Zoo no longer has them! They have many different kinds of birds, Parrots, Macaws, Emus, Eagle's, King Vulture's, Kookaburra's and other including a healthy population of Peacocks and a couple of Albino Peacock's. They have a reptile house with a lot of snakes, lizards, turtles, poison dart frogs and others. It's a lot to see in a small setting and very well worth your money and time. The prices are very reasonable and your kids will really enjoy it. I've been through Lufkin many times and heard of it, but this is the first time we went just for the Zoo! I highly recommend it!

Great little zoo! They have a large variety of animals including a reptile house, peacocks, alligators, a lion, hippos, a giraffe, and so many more. There are also concessions, a small gift shop, and a train that mostly runs on the weekend. I was delighted to find it was more than I expected and my family had a wonderful time. We can't wait to go back!

This zoo really surprised me. I wouldn't think that a zoo in Lufkin, Texas would have so many animals or such cute displays, but I was pleasantly surprised. This place is such a bargain and is great to entertain the kids for a few hours.

Very good zoo! Kinda of small, but good for the size of Lufkin. The employees at the check in place were nice. They have great animals like giraffes and lions.

Small children? This is a wonderful zoo for those kiddos under 10. They are able to walk the whole zoo. Animal enclosures don't have huge barriers, so it gives an up close & personal feel. We go every year. Our boys love the peacocks running around & this year they had several animals with babies! Bring cash, their credit card machine is down a lot for the gift shop & concessions. After the zoo, check out the train & playground across the street. All is located on the park grounds.

Ellen Trout Zoo rivals many of the zoos in much larger towns. It is much nicer than the Richmond Zoom and is very reasonably priced.

There was a friendly bird that even told us "hello" and "bye"! Definitely make sure you are driving a SUV or truck. There are no paths to drive on and our SUV almost got stuck in the sand. Not having a road allows you closer interaction with the animals which you don't have with some of the larger drive-thurs.

Wanted something fun todo while in the Nacogdoches area since my hubby and I decided to give East Texas a try. We found Grapeland Safari via Google wasn't mentioned much on Yelp so off we went. You really have to pay attention or you'll pass it. This Safari starts you inside of their shop where for most people it's $12.95/pp and they do take credit cards. You get one free cup of feed per person but like I said before I recommend purchasing a bucket of feed. We bought the $10 one and felt that it even wasn't enough. Bought a few souvenirs they gave cute little magnets and nice ball caps. The lady behind the counter said they would be getting new items in soon representing their little park. Now on to the animals! You enter and exit the same gate so be mindful of others. This Safari does not have a set path and you're welcome to drive all over the fields just be careful of the animals.

5-Star!!! Looking at Membership!!…read more We are absolutely blown away by our experience at 7 Acre Wood! As small business owners, we know what it's like to get unfair reviews--and honestly, we're not sure what people could possibly complain about here. Everything was so well-maintained, from the grounds to the animal enclosures, and the entire place had a warm, welcoming feel. Every animal was friendly, approachable, and clearly used to kind human interaction. Our kids (6-year-old boy and 4-year-old girl) were able to pet and spend quality time with all of them--which is something you don't get at most places. The putt-putt course was a fun bonus, and the playground looked brand new--better than what you'd see at most parks! We stayed for 5 full hours, and not once did the kids get bored. Even in 95-degree heat, there was plenty of shade and a nice breeze, making it very tolerable. The staff was amazing, and a young man named Cameron stood out--super friendly and helpful when we asked about the male tortoises (which were incredible to see up close). We also noticed multiple people working to keep everything clean and cared for the entire time we were there. On top of all that, the food prices were shockingly affordable, which made it even more enjoyable. We left grateful, refreshed, and already planning our next visit. This place is a hidden gem and a great example of how a small attraction can be run with excellence and heart.

Probably about the same amount as the average Joe or Jane. They've got fish in tanks on displays, as well as crocodiles (not in tanks though, but in their own enclosure). They've got an exhibit on models of fish caught over the year. Some get pretty big and impressive as well as an insane amount of lures. They have a quick little show with a giant tank and diver in it teaching about the different fish there. We followed it with a tram tour around the fishery. They showed where the fish was kept and explain the process. Towards the end they'll offer to let you off so you can walk back through their marsh walkway or take you back on the tram. We opted for the walk since it was such a beautiful day out and it was scenic and a good short walk to get the heart going. My favorite part was the fishing pond they have. They'll even set you up with rod and lures to fish there as part of your admission. Before they send you off, they'll give you a quick little spiel to get you started. Ask if you're needing more information. The man running this station is super helpful! We didn't catch anything but it was still a lot of fun. We did see others catch fish. Highly recommend, especially if you have children!
