As someone who has volunteered there for over 15 years, I can attest that there are 3 separate large areas for different populations of cats (adoptable/sanctuary cats, Feline Leukemia cats, Special Needs/less than social cats) and each area typically houses between 20 and 30 felines. There are multiple rooms with screened in porches for the cats to enjoy, benches for visitors to sit on, and the only time I've seen the cats "swarm" is at the end of the day when cleaning is finished and they're expecting their treats. The post in question also claims that there is an online schedule of hours indicating that the shelter is only open to the public one day a week for 2 hours. I haven't been able to find that; instead hours are listed on Facebook as shown in the image I'm including. PAWSitively CATS is run by just a few staff members (some part time) and a few dozen dedicated volunteers. The cats are well cared for and happy.

I'm so glad we did. We get to love on dogs for 2-3 weeks, and ensure that they get adopted by the best possible family (given the dog and families needs). This rescue is a non-profit, and everyone that volunteers is unpaid (including an occasional pilot that flies dogs in, when necessary). There is an adoption fee, but the money goes towards veterinary bills that can be sizable. If a dog comes to the rescue sick (we had one recently that had Parvo), the veterinary bills were over $5,000. If you're thinking about adopting or volunteering with labradors, you've come to the right place!

I looked online prior to coming in. It is recommended that you fill out an adoption application prior to coming in so you'll be pre-approved which makes getting the cat of your choice more likely. It isn't required though, you can pop in anytime they are open to see and meet the cats available for adoption. I'm glad Holly has pissed some people off! When I was there there were a couple of groups of people that came in with kids/teens who didn't respect the cat's boundaries. I saw a boy trying to play with a cat by batting at it when the cat had already popped him and it's ears were lying flat back on it's head. There was zero awareness from the boy (mid teens) that this cat did not want to play with him, he was just terrorizing it. The cats roam freely through the facility, some like attention others want you to leave them the fuck alone. Take a hint when it's given and you'll be fine. From my experience and based on the questionnaire for adoption Hermitage is just trying to get these cats into reliable, loving, stable homes. When I dropped in yesterday I had no expectations that I'd actually be able to bring a kitty home. Whatever hoops they require a person to jump though is in the best interest of the kitties. You are not entitled to whatever cat you want whenever you want it just because it's in a shelter! I am so grateful Holly let me adopt my sweet boy yesterday but I would've completely understood if I had to wait and potentially miss out on getting him. I showed up at 4 pm just planning to look but prepared in case I found "the one". When I knew I found the one I went back out to the lobby and filled out the adoption application on my phone. Once submitted I asked how long the approval process takes. Holly said it varies and recent background checks through my employment might have sped that up. I asked if I'd be able to take him home that day or would it be Tuesday when they reopen, if approved. Holly told me it depended on whether the people there before me were adopting and how many. This was because the cats have to get a checkup before leaving and there's paperwork to be filled out. The shelter closes at 5 pm on Saturdays. Completely reasonable!! So I just hung out and played with cats until I knew for sure. Luckily there was only one adoption in front of me so Holly had time to work me in. This place is wonderful and I am so so glad I wasn't dissuaded by the mediocre yelp score. There are some very petty people and they really mess up the reliability of yelp. When we reached out to this "shelter" they gave us the runaround about our kitty's whereabouts and safety. Then they ghosted us and refused to give us our cat back. We even drove all the way from CA to AZ to get her back and they kicked us out and claimed they had a lawyer as they handed us a bogus cease and desist. We have no idea how she ended up in AZ. We searched for her for years. She was missing 11 years. This was a year ago. To this day, we have not seen our kitty and we are afraid they just euthanized her. DO NOT SURRENDER ANIMALS TO THIS PLACE!!! Especially if they do not belong to them. The humane society is a better place to surrender them to. Whoever surrendered her to them with a chip attached should be ashamed!!! This cat did not belong to them or this so-called shelter. She had a microchip. Legally, she should have gone to the humane society!!! We told them we wanted her back and they claimed she was better off if they kept her. That is not their decision to make. That's against the law. They broke the law!

I no longer have bath scrubbies, matching socks , or anything Lloyd deems his toy... I wake up at 4:30 for work and on my off days Lloyd assumes he gets fed at 4:30 so he screams till I relent and feed him. He loves being held and will lay in my arms for hours...Lloyd's foster told me it will take a special person to care for him because he needs tons of attention. He is exactly the perfect cat for us and I am pretty sure he feels the same way.

I called and left a message explaining that she was a particular kind of kitty and best suited in a home where she was the only pet. A man called me back, he didn't even bother to ask me any questions. he was clearly exasperated, in fact, he sounded almost insulted that I had even bothered to call them for help in the first place. He told me that they can't take a cat who can't be around other cats. Well, she's dead now. She got sick, so I could not, in good conscience, get rid of her, or send her to a shelter. So, I worked with her, until she could go no further. Hyperthyroidism was the disease and she did not respond well to the medication. In the end, we had to make the agonizing end of life decision for her and we let her go. Of course, she would have gotten sick, regardless of whether the shelter stepped up to help, or not, but I am still posting this because it is abundantly clear that they do not want to have to go above and beyond for the cats. They just want it to make pretend that they do.

Although it was beyond hours, Susan greeted us, answered questions, and, in reality, comforted both of us. She also offered any help she could give to our situation. Indecision kept us busy for two more weeks, but decision made, we called her. She and a volunteer came on a Sunday and collected our surplus and our cat, taking time from her weekend to let us say goodbye, assuring his care, and thanking us for the privilege of being able to help.
