This is an updated review, as Pawhootz was operating as "Animal America" on my previous review, and (I think) was under different ownership or management. I have a different dog now - a Maltese puppy named Maxwell - who is just over a year old. I started bringing him for Day Camp in the first quarter of 2024. He was very timid and unsure of what to do, but the excellent "camp counselors" at Pawhootz were so patient in doing their evaluations and making sure he felt safe and secure. Now, he acts like he owns the place! When I ask him if he wants to "go play," he goes berserk! And as soon as we pull into the driveway, chaos (the good kind) ensues. He has a little BFF that attends regularly, as well. When I pick him up at the end of the day, he is happily exhaunted. I confess that I balked a bit at the price and having to pay all at once at the beginning of each month; however, Maxwell attends day camp three times per week - when I can't work from home and must be in Dallas all day, I have real peace of mind knowing that he is well taken care of. Also, I love peeking in on the Webcam to see him playing with his buddies - it's the best part of my day! The management at Pawhootz is excellent - they are very responsive to questions and concerns, and they actually listen! You can tell that they have a heart for animals, and they treat them as if they were their own. We have been learning about boarding during the holidays. I was confident that he was safe and well cared for during the holidays. And they are working with me to find ways to alleviate his anxiety - puppies get anxious sometimes when we're away for longer than they are used to! We have not had a full groom here yet, but Maxwell got a luxurious bath and blueberry facial recently! They did a lovely job of brushing and cleaning him up - he was a happy peppy puppy when they brought him out to me. In summary, I highly recommend Pawhootz as a reliable, safe, secure, and trustworthy place to board fur babies. Between the creative enrichment activities and the amazing employees, they are a fun place for a few hours or a few days. read more

I'm writing this on behalf of my mother. She took her Maltese in for a groom and left extremely disappointed. The haircut was terribly uneven, choppy, and clearly rushed. It honestly looks like whoever groomed him either doesn't know how to cut dog hair or simply didn't care. Some areas look hacked with random layers, while other spots weren't cut at all. It looks less like a professional groom and more like it was done with dull paper scissors. To make matters worse, she dropped her dog off at 7:00am and didn't hear anything until 3:00pm and that was only because she had to call and check if he was ready. I understand they may have been busy or backed up due to reschedules from the ice storm, but that's not an excuse to deliver such poor-quality work. People are paying with their hard-earned money and deserve proper care and a basic level of professionalism especially when it comes to their fur baby. This experience was frustrating and unacceptable, and won't be returning. read more

Had to leave Maizie here for a week when I pulled Jury Duty. She is never happy to be separated from us, shakes like a leaf (1 yr old Mini-Dachshund) but when one of the girls she recognizes takes her she settles right down. We dropped her off on Monday and asked for Boarding, Food, Puppy Play, and Grooming. They are very flexible about their hours. When we picked her up on Friday she was well fed, smelled so pretty, her nails and anal glands looked very nice, and she was happy. We have a "cradle to "grave" Vet for our dogs. Now PawHootz is our permanent home for everything else. read more

Terrible dog daycare, do not trust this place with your pets - they broke my puppy's leg! I took my Great Dane here for his first ever day of "dog daycare" when he was 4 months old. About half way through the day I received a call from a vet I'd never heard of who told me they had him, he was seriously injured, and they needed consent to treat him (all while I could hear him crying in pain in the background). It turned out his rear right leg was broken in 3 places, the vet called this type of break a spiral fracture and said it could only have been caused by significant weight being placed on the side of his leg and him twisting to attempt to get away from it. This pathetic excuse of a dog care facility didn't even have the courtesy to call me to let me know anything happened and that my dog was taken to a vet for treatment, they let me be blindsided by a vet who was under the impression I was aware of the situation. They also refused to pay for the stainless steel plate and 7 screws that had to be put in my 4 month old puppy's leg and they refused to even tell me WHAT HAPPENED. Their story alternated from "he was running alone, tripped and when he got up he was limping" to "he was playing with a larger dog who fell on him while running." I had to hire a lawyer and file a lawsuit to get these people to pay me back for my dogs surgery. Also, when you drop your dog off they claim they have cameras and watch what goes on, but when my lawyer requested the footage suddenly the cameras "don't actually work". These people do not care about you or your precious pets. Please don't make the same mistake I did. read more

My pup and I really liked Pawhootz! I really like that not only do they get to socialize with other dogs, but they also get a break and get to go into their little suite in the afternoon for naptime. Enrichment activities are also great. The only con I can think of is the price, this 4 stars instead of 5. read more

Alright so far. Started taking our new pup here to be able to get to socialize with other animals besides our others that live with us; and so he won't be bored and tear up the house while we're at work. Left him there until around 5:30 on his first visit. When we picked him up he was scared and locked in a cage. Not exactly what I expected to see when picking him up his 1st day. I wanted to see him playing and enjoying himself. It just makes me wonder how long he had been locked in a cage... I could do that for free at home if that's what I wanted. read more

***ATTN Pet Owners, BEWARE!*** We started kenneling our dog here in 2015 after a diligent search for a kennel that would take proper care of him. I was wary about boarding him after a bad experience at a different kennel where I picked him up and he was shaking and his tail was between his legs, but when I found PawHootz, previously called Animal America, I voiced my concerns. The mgr, who is no longer there, talked with me through it and offered to take him for a day to see how he would do. I was a nervous wreck that entire day, but when I picked him up and he was happy and his tail was wagging? I was satisfied. Then Covid hit, and the last time we traveled was in Sept 2019. This past week, I had a biz trip to take, so we had to board him. They had a new requirement, doggy influenza vaccine, so Wed before the trip we took him to the vet and they weighed him, and he was 14.4 lbs. This was on Wed before we left. We dropped him off Sat, 5/6/23, so 3 days later. He has pancreatitis, so he's on 3 medications, one of which he has to have 2x a day, and he's on a prescription lowfat diet, hes a senior dog, and he's a chiweenie, so we have to keep his weight low, not only for his pancreatitis but also to prevent strain on his back. When we dropped him off, there were 2 people there who wrote down the directions given to feed and give his meds. He gets 3/4 of a cup of food in the morning, and 3/4 of a cup in the evening with just a tiny bit extra, literally just enough food to coat the bottom of the scoop. 16 servings is what was needed, but I gave 20 large servings, I overflowed the scoop when I was filling the bag as a just in case the flight was delayed, but there should have been leftover food. He gets his meds with peanut butter, 1/2 of 1 pill in the morning, and 3 pills in the evening. He gets 1 slice of frozen banana as a treat. We told all of this in detail when we dropped him off, and both of them wrote down all of this. But, on Sat the 13th, the day before we were picking him up, someone called saying they were out of food, and asked if they could give him resort food.I said how could be out of food, I gave extra food, how much have you been feeding him? She said they had been giving him 3/4 of a cup of food, I said ok you're not following my instructions because he gets 3/4 in the morning, and a little extra in the evening. She then asked if she could give him resort food, I said absolutely not, he's on a prescription diet, I'll call the vet and have them bring some food over. Thankfully his vet is right next door and they were open and able to take a bag over, but this had me very concerned. Yesterday, 5/14/23, we picked him up and he looked chunky. We brought him home and let him out. When he came back inside, we went to give him a banana out of the bag the kennel gave back to us, and it was a block of ice in the bag! So, the bag had been thawed, and refrozen and noone said a word! So was he given his treats at any point? How many days did he go without his bananas? How could noone say anything to us? This, however, was minor in comparison to the next part. We decided to weigh him, and he weighed 15.4lbs. He gained an entire pound in a week! And this is not some 150lb dog where a pound doesn't really matter, this is a 14lb dog, a pound for him is a LOT! So they were CLEARLY overfeeding him, but what? I don't know because his food is prescription low fat, I find it hard to believe he would have gained an entire pound in a week from eating that. I immediately called the kennel and I was told that a mgr would be contacting me YESTERDAY with an explanation on what happened. It's now 12:09am Tues morning and I've had NO communication. At this point, I don't want an apology, because honestly no apology or money is going to make up for the fact that they jeopardized the health of a dog that I've had for 14 years. All I can say is I will never be bringing him back there again. And, I've contacted all the people I recommended PawHootz to and made them aware as well. read more

I leave my dog here when I go on my spontaneous trips and I never have to worry about if she's eating or if she's playing nice because they cater everything to your pup! If there were ever an issue with anything they would contact me immediately I know my sweet angel Aspen is a handful and the staff always knows what's best if she happens to not get along with another pup. Cat BOarding Review! It's not easy choosing a place to board your cat when leaving town. The options come down to - which cage do you want to put your cat in. Due to safety concerns I elect to board my cat instead of leaving him at home. I had a cat pass away due to a blocked urinary tract once (I didn't board him) which is why I choose a boarding facility. The staff here is very nice. I wouldn't say their boarding facilities are superior to any other cat boarding facility but the fact that they have a vet in their building and have convenient pick up hours keeps me coming back. I highly recommend this facility. My suggestion to management: I would suggest they build a play room to let the cats out of the cages at least once a day, if this is in place it should be communicated to the customer and advertised on the website. read more

Animal America provided great services to our 2 dogs: Butters and Trixie. We boarded them for a week, and I was very satisfied. They received walks, play time and cuddling time! Services are not cheap and add-ons can increase price substantially. They were upfront and will discuss in details what they will do for your dog. This is the second year that my dogs stayed with them during my summer vacation. The space is clean and FULLY staffed. I hate being away from my dogs but I know that I can count on Animal America when I need. read more

One of my dogs got banned from another daycare for being aggressive. I've never seen my dog be aggressive. My trainers have never seen her aggressive. I had them send over videos of her attacks and my trainer and the trainer on staff at PawHootz agreed that they were setting my dog up for failure by failing to institute certain things that PawHootz does. We made the switch and my girls love being there and there have been zero Issues and zero Aggression. I love Wendi behind the desk, she is a doll and a pleasure to speak with. Grooming was awesome. My husky looked so good after her brush out. I have zero complaints. My dogs have found their new home and we won't be leaving anytime soon. read more

Have frequently used them for daycare and overnight stays since we rescued our Cairn Terrier 3 years ago.They're wonderful with dogs. Great large indoor play area for any weather. Dogs separated by size. Re staff rude on the phone, they can get overwhelmed when so many things are going on--dogs coming in, going out, phones ringing. This is a wonderful place for grooming, boarding, and our little Pom, Micco, loved doggie day camp. We trust the staff to be kind, gentle, patient, and caring in all they do - grooming a doggie that could be a little testy, our Sheltie, Allie, with great kindness and patience. When our Pom developed a serious back problem, they were extra careful and gentle with him, and he really did love them. He's crossed the rainbow bridge now, much to soon, only 6 years old, but their kind and gentle care for him while grooming will never be forgotten by us. I cannot put into words how angry and heartbroken I am today. My adorable, sweet 9 year old Shyney shoes is so pending the night in the pound. After the self proclaimed manager lied to me on the phone. I was in a hurry to get to work today. This would have been the third doggy daycare visit this week. So I explained that Shayne was having anxiety and I didn't want him to stay home( as he's being chewing things, out of character). They informed me that they aren't doing daycare today but have boarding available. I was quoted a price and heard that way. I wanted him to be safe and play until I was off Monday or Tuesday. So I could arrange a better situation forhim. Long story short when I arrived they informed me that I needed to pay for an entire week of boarding. "Because they've had people not pick up there pets". I was ruining late for work already so I had to tie my baby up under the shade trees. He is now in doggy jail instead our safe in doggy daycare. I used to love taking my dogs here when I travel for work or vacation. My dogs are like my kids. After my last interaction with the the young lady who said she was the Resort Manager, I will never take my dogs there again!! My lab was attacked by 1 or 2 Rottweilers ( I could not get a straight answer from the manager). I never received a phone call to inform me of the incident and when I went to pick my dog up after a 3 night stay, the manager was very defensive, rude and uncaring in her communication. She told me that there was one puncture but when I examined my dog I noticed several others, which leads me to believe that they really did not examine my dog, despite having been groomed and a shed out. When I inquired about the others, the manager seemed surprised and then became defensive. I asked if they had actually examined my dog after the incident or taken her to the vet next door, she stated that there was nothing the vet could do so she put some black dust on the one puncture to stop the bleeding. This Resort Manager should not be in the service industry, she has no empathy, and is a horrible communicator. read more

Animal America took GREAT care of our senior lab-mixes. The website doesn't really do the facility justice. It's much bigger in person than the pictures show. The location is really convenient for HEB residents. Our dogs seemed tuckered out from playing and totally non-plussed at our arrival. To me, that says that says they weren't stressed and wondering when they'd be "rescued". Instead they were kept busy (we opted for daycare playtime as well as boarding). Our oldest is REALLY skittish, and she seemed totally chilled out when we picked them up. They even got cute, matching bandanas as parting gifts. We would definitely use Animal America again. read more

I use Animal America for Day Camp, Boarding, Baths / Tidy Up Treatments, and Shed Out Treatments for my Golden Retriever, Rocky. He loves this place. The staff is friendly and helpful. We've used this place, and others to board our two mutts over the past few years. Our dogs shed A LOT, so we take them here for shed-outs every few months. It takes them a full day to do it, and our dogs don't shed for at least 10 days post. This place ain't cheap, but they are proof that ya get what ya pay for. We sent our Boston here for training as a puppy without issues, so when we needed boarding, I didn't hesitate. We were leaving the country for a few days so I booked him here. I make his food, so I pre-baggied each serving (2 bags per day) & brought it with him at check-in. At the end of our vacation, our flight home was cancelled & we were forced to stay in Mexico another day. I called to extend my dog's stay & the receptionist said "no problem!" I explained that I had only packed enough food for the originally planned days & she said they would supplement him for the extra day, perfect! EXCEPT, when my husband picked him up, he was given a baggy of our homemade food back. We should have been short 2 baggies as he is fed twice a day, so they just didn't feed my dog??? Also, my pup who NEVER barks, came home constantly barking & he almost had no voice left. My fear is that they didn't feed him, & that they left him kenneled & barking instead of putting him in daycare as arranged. It breaks my heart for him to have thought we abandoned him there. Needless to say, we will NOT be returning. read more

Sadie Mae LOVES Animal America and the staff. They go above and beyond the normal pet sitting to make you and your animal feel at home. I took Sadie to another facility when I was in Waco and she was always hesitant to go in. That tells me everything. So, you have to wonder when you see all 5 star reviews and only 1 or 2 bad reviews. We have been going to Animal America for over 15 years and are now on our third generation of animals having stayed there. You know the dogs are happy when they go nuts pulling into the driveway and occasionally turn the other way and head back to the kennel when you come to pick them up. (No, I am not such a monster that they would rather be at the kennel!) Their old kennel was good. Their new kennel is a poodle palace (and goldendoodle too). People are friendly. Dogs are happy and healthy when we pick them up. As regards the staff - dog people are nuts. I'm talking about the owners like me - not the staff. So if you are dealing with nuts, high strung dogs, phones, etc yeah maybe things aren't always like the Ritz Carlton front desk. We still go back two or three times a year and trust them with our four legged family members. Six different dogs over 15 years and three dog generations can't be wrong! read more

So much less hair to clean up daily for months.Took our youngest Schnauzer mix Meg in for grooming also. She does not like strangers and they were great with her. I have had great expereinces with Animal America and boarding my two dogs. A 85 lb lab mix and a 45 lb boxer mix. Both had ample space in their kennels, couild stay together and were attended to very well. I like them having indoor play areas out of the weather and heat and when its nice enough they also have the option of going outside.
