Pavlova is a little cafe in the Howgate Centre alongside a few others on the top floor. They seem to specialise in loaded toast dishes which the call "melts" - basically a thick cut slice of crust white farmhouse loaf topped with some filling and a plentiful portion of cheddar cheese. It all goes under the grill to make ooey gooey delicious comfort food and it comes served with salad and crisps, at least if you're sitting in. Taking out is an option but I can't imagine this would travel well and I think it would be messy to eat on the move.
They also sell coffees and teas and, I think, cakes. There are plenty of seats behind the counter including some comfy sofas and they'll bring your food out to you. You can connect to the free WiFi here, either through the Howgate Centre's Wifi (which you need to sign up for) or through M&S's which is provided through the cloud.
I ordered the Chicken Ceasar melt and to be honest it bore very little resemblence to the classic salad dish but it was tasty. There was chicken, bacon and ceasar sauce hiding until melted cheese and while it's hardly health food it certainly hit the spot. I'd definitely return here if I was feeling peckish whilst shopping. read more
